《Caves of Gods》4: Four Months In

Dear Journal,

I'm so sorry I didn't write in for months. The journal kept getting wet. We moved the hut near the freshwater. Abaddon is in charge of cooking because he cooks better than me. I almost burn or undercook everything. He also catches more fish than me. I watched ten fishes while he caught fifty. Abaddon loves telling me scary stories. He told me a story about a monster that was a big grey fish. It was scarier when told. He could also summon bats. I told him a story that I don't remember what it was. Abaddon just shrugged it off. I thought it was pretty scary. By the way, I'm able to wear my shoes and socks again.

I've gotten used to Abaddon. I've also gotten used to my new life. As soon as I help Abaddon, he'll help me find my dad. Have we made a deal? No, but he'll help me. Honestly, I really don't need to survive with him. I only keep him around because he scares me. I woke him up one time, never again. Does he catch more fish than me? Yes, but I can still find enough fish. Does he cook better than me? Yes, but what I cook is still good. Abaddon is also pretty weird too.

When I wake in the middle of the night, he's just sitting there with glowing eyes. I tried to snap my fingers in front of his face and nothing. Honestly, now I believe that Abaddon is a god. How else do you explain glowing eyes? Abaddon is his free time go to the cave. I wonder what he's looking for. He always returns with nothing. When I ask him about it, he always says nothing. He says it doesn't matter. By the way, his free time is weekly. So, every week he searches for something that doesn't matter. It feels like this is very important.

My daily routine is pretty exhausting. When I wake up, I have a coconut breakfast. Then, I find a palm tree. With my trusty axe, I cut three coconuts. That makes me work until noon. When I get back, Abaddon has a lunch made for me. The lunch is usually made of fish and crabs. I eat with him for about thirty minutes. Then, I go to get water from the nearby lake. Abaddon goes to catch more fish for the following days. I usually try to clean the water. Then I go to eat dinner with Abaddon. Dinner is pretty much lunch. After, that I go to the shore to watch the sunset. I then go to the hut and read some books. I've read all the books at least three times. One day each month, I explore the island trying to make a map.

I have twelve benchmarks on the island. First, the hut. Second, the lake I drink out of. Third, in the northwest, there is a rock full of moss. The fourth benchmark is a small hole that I made. It is not deep and square-shaped. The other benchmarks are nothing more than other small pointers I made. The pointers show me where I am compared to the island. The last benchmark is the cave. I haven't been near the thing since four months ago. I don't think I ever want to go back.

Dear Journal,

I've decided to go back to the cave. I might find whatever Abaddon is looking for. I am writing this before going to the island. I've decided to pack since I will leave first thing in the morning. I've packed some fish, coconut, crab, and water. I've told Abaddon in advance that tomorrow I will use one of my free days. I'll continue this entry tomorrow since this is a pretty short entry. Now time for some sleep.

Well, the sun is rising. Today I'm going to the cave. I don't why I have this nervous feeling. I ate some coconut. I have this pimple on my face today. I usually never have pimples because I don't have oily skin. The pimple is on my check and I'm trying not to scratch it. Although I do have pimples on my back. Anyway, let's go.

It's noon and I've finished having lunch. I had some crab. Right now, I think I'm in the northwest. Once second, let me look at the map. I've passed the moss rock so, yes, I'm in the northwest. The next benchmark is the small hole. I'm guessing it is an hour away. Then the next benchmark is a small hut that I made out of twigs. To compare how small, it is the hut is for dolls. The lunch was crab and fish. One more hour, then another hour, then another hour, then another hour and then more hours. I can do this. I can do this.

I'm so tired. I've been walking for four hours. I'm drinking as much water as I can. I'm sweating everywhere. I'm going to take a break and then continue. Okay, I've taken a thirty-minute break. I've decided to take a break each hour. I will take another break. I'll probably take just another break. I'm calculating that I'll take because I should be walking for ninety minutes. So, in total from my hut to the cave it's eleven hours and thirty minutes. Let's see what's in the cave in two hours.

I've gotten here. The sun is setting. I'll look around in the cave and try to find what Abaddon is looking for. Then I'll leave and go back to the hut. I placed the journal down for some time and then went to explore. I made a fire out of some rocks and put it on a branch. I explored that cave for an hour and didn't find anything. After the second hour, I finally found something. It was a small hole at the end wall. It seemed that it could hold a hoof. I could be very easy for Abaddon to find this so, what was he looking for.

I decided to sleep in the cave. Now in the morning, I had a very big breakfast due to not having dinner. I'm going back after this breakfast to the hut. I've made it back. Abaddon said that I took too much. I still have no idea what Abaddon was looking for. Eight more months.
