Chapter 1.5: ‘Recruitment’

Year: 2483 Month: May 31st

Kai sat at his desk deep in thought. Who was the woman talking about? Does she know more about his ability than he does? Does that mean she has seen him use his ability? He groans and leans back in his chair, gripping his face. He had grown tired of all these questions he has faced recently. Nyx stirs in the bed behind him and Kai freezes. He had forgot she was there, Kent was being surprisingly accepting of Nyx staying in Kai’s room, but it was probably because of the current situation. Nonetheless, Kai had to get a few more power enabled people on board with the ‘plan B’ else it could end up failing or worse. He pulls out his phone and messages a private contact. Time to beg, he thought.

2:30 pm , North east of London,

Kai knocks on the blue door attached to the conservatory of the large house. An old man answers the door, asking what Kai needed. He leans towards the old man and whispers

‘’Anzen‘’

The old man nods and lets Kai inside. Kai creeps into the spacious lobby of the old home and takes a deep breath. The floor was a white marble and the walls were covered in various paintings showing landscapes and historical battles. There was a large spiralling staircase in the middle of the room and Kai spots someone using them. As they reach the bottom Kai grins. Cayde widens his arms with a smile,

‘’Kai! Fancy seeing you here!’’

Kai steps forward and hugs him,

‘’I told you I’d visit.’’

They separate and Cayde puts his hands on his hips,

‘’So, what can I do for you?’’

Kai pulls a straight face and looks Cayde in the eyes.

‘’I have a plan, a dangerous one but it could change our lives forever.’’

Cayde stops smiling and holds his chin.

‘’For the better or worse?’’

Kai frowns.

‘’I don’t know.’’

With a sigh Cayde motions upwards.

‘’Let’s talk upstairs.’’

As they reach the second floor Kai spots a tall woman stood on the landing. She was wearing a white turtle-neck jumper with black leggings and red glasses. Kai waves,

‘’Hey Apollo!’’

Apollo turns towards kai and smiles.

‘’Why hello to you as well Kai. It’s been a while hasn’t it?’’

Cayde steps towards Apollo and grabs her arm, he then leans forward and whispers something in her ear. Apollo’s expression drops and she leaves into the room behind her.

‘’What’s wrong?’’ Kai calls out. Cayde turns to kai and sticks his thumb towards a separate room,

‘’Let’s go.’’

Kai hesitantly follows Cayde into a large room, the room had a red and gold diamond patterned wallpaper. In the centre, multiple sofa’s and armchairs surrounded a single table and television. Cayde takes a seat on one of the armchairs closest to the television. He points to an armchair opposite him.

‘’Sit’’

Kai quickly sat down and looked at Cayde. He had a look on his face Kai was not familiar with.

‘’So, what’s the plan you have?’’

Kai reaches inside his coat pocket and pulls out the folder, he passes it to Cayde. Cayde opens it and skims through it quickly. He looks up at Kai and frowns.

‘’A prison?’’

Kai nods,

‘’A prison, specifically a prison break.’’

Cayde throws the folder onto a nearby coffee table.

‘’A prison break? And how does that help us?’’

Kai pulls out his phone and opens The Woman’s contact, showing it to Cayde.

‘’This woman contacted me a few days ago, she says if we break her friend out he will act as a bodyguard against the government.’’

Cayde leans forward, whispering,

‘’Are you insane? One guy will protect us against a government?’’

Kai grabs the folder again,

‘’Look Cayde, this guy can cause cataclysms of S class power and he is required max level security. Which admittedly makes it harder for us, but if we pull it off, think of how useful it would be to have someone this strong on our side.’’

Cayde slumps backwards into his chair,

‘’I guess so, but it would mean no more hiding.’’

Kai looks down.

‘’I’m prepared for that.’’

Cayde sighs and stands up, turning to the door,

‘’I’ll go talk to Apollo, we’ll need all the help possible.’’

Kai looks up and smiles.

‘’Thanks Cayde.’’

Cayde lifts a thumb up as he leaves.

‘’No problem.’’

Kai sits back in the chair and looks at the ceiling. He closes his eyes and sighs deeply.

‘’hey’’

Kai jolts forwards.

‘’H-Hello? Who said that?’’

No one responds. Kai nervously leans backwards again.

What the hell was that? He thinks to himself.

After sitting in the large room for around 30 minutes, Kai spots Cayde walking back. Kai stands up and walks to greet him.

‘’So, what’d Apollo say?’’

Cayde sighs and places a hand on kai’s shoulder.

‘’This better be worth it. That’s what she said.’’

Kai’s eyes light up and he laughs.

‘’It will be’’
