Chapter 1.4: ‘Questionable Allies’

Year: 2483 Month: May 31st

Three days after Kai told his brother Kent of the plan the woman in black gave him, Kai decided to meet the woman once again. Asking her to bring the people that would help him free the criminal.

Kai stood underneath the large oak tree once more, breathing in the fresh breeze that rolled in over the fields. He turns to greet the sound of footsteps behind him. The woman was once again dressed in black, but with red lipstick and velvet gloves. She was accompanied by two men, one of the men was incredibly tall and built like an Ox. He adorned a thick leather coat that was ripped around the arms and had a large suitcase slung over his back with rope. The other man was slim and average height. He wore a tailored suit and was admiring the view from atop the hill. The woman smiled at Kai and bowed her head.

‘’Pleasure to meet you once again young man’’ She then raised her head and motioned to the Large man, ‘’This is Jonathon, he is my most trusted friend and will be familiarising you with the basic plans and will also be leading the break.’’

Jonathon looks kai up and down and smirks, ‘’HA, You don’t look too weak’’ he had a strong northern accent, ‘’Pleasure working with you’’

Kai nods awkwardly,

‘’You… too’’

The woman giggles and then motions to the other man,

‘’This here is Owen, he will be providing backup.’’

Owen doesn’t move, almost hypnotised by the landscape he was viewing. The woman crosses her arms and sighs. ‘’Sorry for my associates rudeness’’

Kai shakes his head,

‘’No problem, now do they have abilities?’’

The woman frowns,

‘’ Of course they do, what kind of fool do you take me for?’’

‘’Oh no I didn’t mean-, a-, I was just wondering what kinds of abilities they had’’

The woman smiles again cupping her face,

‘’I was only teasing you, I knew what you meant’’ She giggles and kai forces out a weak laugh, confused at the woman’s humour, ‘’ Jonathon over here has an ability that can restrain anyone he wants within 60 metres. He can also slow down and reflect small incoming projectiles.’’

Kai nods and holds his chin. That could be useful.

The woman continues, ‘’Owen has an ability that can manipulate a person’s mind, controlling memories and emotions.’’

Kai’s eyes widen, that sounded ridiculously powerful. The woman giggles again, noticing Kai’s shock.

‘’But young man, you have quite the amazing ability yourself do you not?’’

Kai freezes. He just realised that this woman knows about his ability, he had completely forgotten that this woman had probably been stalking him for a while now.

‘’Well young man, aren’t you going to tell me?’’

Kai gulps,

‘’I… uhm. It’s just some flames really, that’s all’’

The woman furrows her brow and stares oddly at Kai.

‘’Do you not know about HIM?’’

Kai squints,

‘’Who?’’

The woman palms her face and starts chuckling to herself,

‘’ Well, well. I guess you are still learning then.’’

Kai stands motionless, confused.

‘’What do you mean, who are you talking about?’’

The woman looks back up at Kai and shakes her head.

‘’You will learn in time, for now just complete this task I have laid out in front of you, then I might just tell you.’’ The woman winks and turns to leave. Kai reaches out but then he suddenly tenses up and is held in place. Kai starts to panic, his muscles wouldn’t listen to him. Then he notices Jonathon, his eyes were glowing a faint white. He had locked kai in place. The woman calls out,

‘’Until we meet again young man, work well boys’’

Once again, a cloud of smoke surrounds her and she vanishes. Jonathon releases Kai and starts to walk away, grabbing Owen. A cloud of smoke surround them as well. In a matter of moments Kai was left alone under the old oak tree, confused and in shock.
