《The End (LitRPG)》Chapter 1

My name is James Yancy, I'm 19 years old. I am also one of the only children in the last 19 years who was born without a superpower. Which kind of sucks, but I guess I've gotten used to it. Seeing my other classmates throwing fireballs or punching through solid brick on a daily basis kind of gets old though. I especially hate it when they try to not use their power in front of me. Just because I can't do anything like that, don't act like you can't do it.
The "god" Jay said the apocalypse would start sometime this year. I just hope I can survive the beginning. If I survive the initial chaos I will be able to, level up? I think that's what He meant by RPG-like. I hope that's what he meant. I have played almost every RPG released in the last 25 years to get ready. I have so many strategies to survive. I just hope they will actually work in practice.
The world changed right after his announcement. Regular school changed, we still learn the basics like Math, English, and History, but more emphasis is put on combat and weapon training, school also doesn't end like it used to anymore, there isn't first through 12th grade, everything is based on rank now. The first rank for us "normals" as the supers call us, is usually 3 to 8 years of age, rank one consists of 4 hours of physical and weapon training broken up over 8 hours, and 4 hours of regular class, but most supers start out at rank two. Rank two is 9 to 15 years old, unless you are a super, in that case, you start out here, in my opinion, this is because they have a higher chance of living, and it consists of 6 hours of physical and weapon training spread out over 8 hours, and 2 hours of regular class. Rank 3, the final rank, is 16+ and consists of 7 hours of physical and weapon training and 1 hour of regular class spread out over 8 hours, but at this rank, it is suggested you train even more at home. I am in class right now thinking about all that is suppose to happen when I heard a strange noise. The strange noise got louder and louder until it is almost unbearable to listen to. Then a sudden white flash appears in front of my face, after the initial blindness dissipates I see a countdown timer in front of my face.

Countdown: 2:00
Is... is this it? Oh god, I'm not ready! I'm gonna die! Oh no! Snap out of it James! You have been training for this your whole life. "Heh, this couldn't have come at a worse time." I mutter. I am currently in English class which coincidently is on the other side of the school from the armory. I get up and start to run out of class. "Mr. Yancy. Where do you think you are going." says the English teacher Mrs. Aless. "You don't see the countdown timer?" I shout. I hear a couple kids snicker. "Have you gone off your rocker? Sit back down and shut up!" She slightly raises her voice, which isn't like her. I say, "We only have a minute and a half left! I am going to the armory." "Sit down, or I will have Mr. Wells restrain you." Jack Wells is the only person in my class who has super strength. The countdown is now at a minute fifteen. "I swear I'm not crazy! Please, you have to believe me!" I plead. Why am I the only one who can see it?
"Mr. Wells, restrain him while I call the nurse's office," she says "This is the 3rd kid this year who has gone crazy." she mutters. "I'm not crazy!" I yell. Jack gets up and comes at me. Luckily my desk was the closest to the door. Unlucky for me, Jack's desk was only 2 to the left of me. He is a lot faster than I am, it doesn't help that I am a little overweight. I just don't understand how I am overweight with all the training I do. Why am I thinking of this! Focus on running James! Just as I make it out of the door, I hear Jack barreling through the open doorway behind me. "Come here James my friend! I won't hurt you," he says. "A lot that is." he says under his breath. "!!" I make a high pitched squeak as I continue running down the hall. While the school is quite old, it was torn down and rebuilt after Jay's message. It is now more or less split into 4 main buildings all in a row with 5 training fields. I am in the English building, and the armory is on the far side of the gym, which is the farthest building away from me.

"If I run at full speed I can be there a few seconds after the timer reaches 0." I mutter. "GET BACK HERE YANCY!" Jack roars. "I am not lying! Please believe me jack!" I plead. 46 seconds. Crap! I need to speed up! I run past startled looking students and teachers. I run past open classroom doors with teachers either lecturing or teaching people how to fight. I run past the cafeteria while hearing Jack catching up to me. "Yancyyy boyyy." he says singsongy as I feel a fist grab the collar of my shirt. 3..2..1. The timer runs out and I see another flash of light and another blue screen.
