《GENERIKA 0FFLINE》That Novice, Trying His Best - Pt. 3

"Oh, dear. I apologize for the landing, Mr. Quinn. My coordinates must be a few degrees off."
"Nah, it's alright."
I smile for the clerk's benefit and force myself upright. We materialized in midair, and for whatever reason, I dropped like a boulder instead of mimicking her elegant downwards float. I cough up the mouthful of dirt I inhaled upon landing and brush off my clothes.
"Moving along, then!" The clerk claps her hands and skips back on nimble toes. She flings her arms wide and spins around, showing off our surroundings. "Welcome to the practice chamber!"
I rub a fresh kink from my neck and make a doubtful sound. Shouldn't a chamber have walls? So far as I can tell, we've landed in the middle of literal nowhere. Above and around us stretches a stark white void. If not for the packed dirt beneath our feet, I'd figure we were still floating.
"It's... spacious." A single bead of sweat slides down my temple. "So, I'm practicing the trial here? What am I practicing with? Will it, uh, be as hard as the real deal?"
"So many questions~ I appreciate your enthusiasm, Mr. Quinn." The clerk snaps her fingers. Above her, a small interface window expands into view. "We here at the 1st Class Trial Dungeon take your success very seriously. While you can't reherase fights with real monsters in this room, you can practice your basic movement and combat controls."
The clerk raises her index finger and makes a turning motion with her wrist. The interface window follows her direction and drifts down to eye level.
... My eye level, that is. The dungeon staff's female uniforms involve heels, giving the clerk several inches' advantage over my already short self. Honestly, why didn't I come with a handsome, mature-looking model instead of this adolescent body? I curse the RNG every day.

The window flickers, calling my attention. The word 'LOADING' surfaces and begins to scroll.
"So, Mr. Quinn. Do you have any prior combat experience?"
"Ah... not really."
"What about summoning or support roles?"
"Sorry, no."
"Are you familiar at all with [Crafting]?"
The clerk's head tilts in genuine curiosity. I heave a strained, drawn-out sigh.
"I used to work the Choboja Village gate," I murmur, too embarrassed to meet her eyes. "I spent my whole life begging Heroes to beat up 「Slimes」for me."
An awkward silence passes between us. The clerk bobs a thoughtful nod.
"O~oh. So you were that guy."
Those patronizing words pass her lips in such a sweet tone that I find myself nodding. When the realization hits, I snap to attention.
"What's that supposed to mean!?"
"Don't cry, Mr. Quinn~" She waves me off. "There's not much time, so let's get you up to speed. May I see your [Character] screen and [Skill Tree]?"
"Huh? Oh, sure, but fair warning--they're not much to look at."
Smiling sheepishly, I summon both windows and slide them in front of her.
"Thank you kindly."
The clerk taps her chin, considering the various numbers, icons, and sliders filling the screens. How well am I doing compared to the other newbies she's met? I shift uneasily at the thought of disappointing someone with my randomizer-given build. The confidence I mustered earlier begins to waver.
Don't blame me for my abysmal stats!
"Aha," says the clerk, pulling me from my thoughts. "It's just as I suspected. Most NPCs of mundane origins have no [Skills] and poor [Attributes] across the board. You're no exception. In fact, your numbers are stunningly common."
Common, huh? I sink into a fog of despair, speared through the heart by her frank observations.

"That's fine," she continues, oblivious to my wounded pride. "For the purpose of today's trial, I, Valeria Fullbright, will fix that for you. Pick your stress ball, Mr. Quinn ♥"
Valeria brings her own window back into the foreground with a swish of her hand. The 'loading' text has been replaced by a simple dropdown menu with the following header:
CHOOSE A TRAINING DUMMY
"Hmm..."
I lift a curious hand and tap the box. To my surprise, an entire bestiary's worth of monster names unfolds beneath. Goblins, sea serpents, giant spiders... if I really wanted to, I could even try my hand at beating up fake dragons.
"It's a little intimidating," I admit. "What do you suggest?"
Valeria Fullbright simply winks.
"How about some 「Slimes」?"

The Heart Grows
Dungeon games? Yeah, they're a good way to waste a few hours. The trick is to know the map and plan appropriately. Of course, it doesn't matter if you get beaten. You revise your plan for that map and do a bit better next time. Man, it'd really suck to wake up as a dungeon heart in a fantasy world you know nothing about, barely able to even work out how to control your dungeon. Lucky that wouldn't happen to anybody, huh? What with only having one chance at getting things right, you'd have to plan extra-defensive. This story should be getting chapters published weekly. I have a comfortable buffer set up and on top of the weekly writing I am committing, a commissioner has donated two monthly writing slots to ensure this remains on a weekly schedule. There will be a stat block at the beginning of every chapter bar the first, and a handy map at the end. All my works come with a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. This means you are free to download, publish, and even make derivative works of my writing so long as you include this license, attribution, and don't sell the works. Keep it free!

Overpowered Death Mage In Another World
In a world of VR-MMORPG, I am feared as Death Mage. In the biggest war of VR history I died pathetically at the beginning of the battle but instead of respawning, I'm thrown into a different world.Wait, I am in my game avatar with all the skills and max level. What? My level if far greater than people of this world.Along with my servant Amelia, Village girl Myra, Adventurer Claire, and other beauties, I'll start my adventure and build my own empire.Note: This is my first novel, there might be some mistakes. Feel free to give suggestions and constructive criticism is appreciated.Another Important Note: Don't judge this book by the reviews that are given by reading only early chapters. Most of those reviews came after my novel went on trending and some wannabe critics who have never written anything in their lives decided it's not trending worthy. If you want to judge then read reviews given at later chapters or better read 15 to 20 chapters yourself. Thanks! :)

Statless
Summary Alexander Weiss, an intelligent and slightly unusual man, always dreamt of becoming a mage. Sadly, reality is harsh and even his best efforts never allowed him to achieve his goal during his lifetime... or did they? One has to be careful what they wish for, lest they might live to see it fulfilled. Description Follow Alex, a man whose pursuit of magic could not even be stopped by his non-magical reality, going as far as to create it himself, only to encounter an unsurmountable obstacle shortly before achieving his lifes goal, denying him all access to these powers. His journey will take him through a miraculous world, full of wonders, magic and manic beasts trying to devour him! He will learn much about this world during his adventures, exploring individual aspects of the System and the various monsters that came from it... or did they? Strong points What you'll get from this novel is the following (read with overly enthusiastic salesman-voice) : • An ending! I'll complete it, no matter what. Well, not "no matter what", but as long as I don't unexpectedly end, this novel won't either! • Good grammar! Might not be perfect, but it's definitely good enough to not detract from the story in the slightest. I'll also fix any reported mistakes as soon as possible, be they grammatical, syntactical or just inconsistencies. • No plot-armor! Or plot-weapons! Or plot-... potions? And no plot-holes! If you see some, it's most likely information that is being witheld for future revelations! But in the (hopefully) very unlikely case of such a vile beast being encountered, please inform me immediately and I'll see to slaying it without grace! (Translation: If you see plot-holes, tell me and I'll fix them) • Logic! [Hidden : Spoilers][Hidden : More Spoilers] [Moved to Chapter [Hidden Spoiler]'s Author's Note] Marvelous, I know! • Blue Boxes! And maybe something more! • Sensible retroactive edits! Not to be confused with radioactive edits! You'll not have to re-read previous chapters, even if they get some major edits. If they were to receive new information, I'll add that very information to the newly released chapters too, in a reasonable way. • Realism! Shocking, I know! Especially considering the tag related to that and the point about "Logic!". This also means that the story will be... well, realistically depicting a pretty messed up world. Don't expect bunnies... at least not cute ones. • Relatively faster paced! No long and boring descriptions of irrelevant stuff. There will be some longer descriptions about important things, but that's gonna be necessary world- and/or character-building! • Short action! Might not be a plus for some, but you won't have to look at a whole (or, god forbit, multiple) chapter describing a fight against the same enemy... • Strategy and hard progression! It's a dog-eat-dog world! No grinding/power-creep! If you're up against three enemies of your level at once, you've already lost! • Understanding! It will be mostly about discovering the wonders of this new world and how it became like that, all while trying to survive. So there will be enough action nonetheless! • Humor! Sometimes dark, sometimes light, always at the worst moment! • Constructive critics, welcome! Destructive critics, nope... I can handle criticism though, so don't go easy on me! Just make sure it's really a mistake when complaining about something. • Will add more in the future! If I can think of more stuff...

Inveigle
Cora Carpenter lives in an America where over 90% of the popular vote went to one presidential candidate. New policies pervade the American culture such as the Better Homes Better Future Act where all pregnant couples must pass an IQ test with 90 or higher and scores are tattooed on the infants skull for record keeping. Anything lower and the child is given to a more suitable home. Or the Volunteer Tax because if someone has time to dedicate to the less fortunate, then they must of course have extra income to spare. The best part, everyone agrees to these laws because if not one phone call is all it takes for someone to disappear. But what if persuasion isn't a learned skill but a gift embedded into a person by ancient beings? And what if these ancient beings are at war with each other? This story has been completed.
