《GENERIKA 0FFLINE》That Novice, Trying His Best - Pt. 2
Advertisement
The 1st Class Trial Dungeon is the number one objective for NPCs looking to expand their horizons. Once upon a time, unspecialized Heroes came here to test their skills and select their first [Job Class]. These fledgeling adventurers were called [Drifters], and they arrived in our universe already bearing the title.
We NPC's aren't so lucky.
Excluding those playing the parts of experts, vendors, trainers and such, none of us have any [Class] at all. A successful Hero would emerge from the 1st Class Trial Dungeon as some kind of fighter, healer, or summoner. Successful NPCs come out [Drifters]... if we don't explode into a billion polygons and end up respawning in the failures' corner instead.
Phew... finally here.
Two guards, identical to the guys who'd let me in, await at the end of the hall. Between them stands another smiling clerk. She wears the same skirt and blouse as the receptionist, though the soft pink hair tumbling down her shoulders certainly sets them apart.
Well, that and the holographic exclamation mark bouncing above her.
"Welcome!" She quirks a pretty smile. "You must be NPC-RND-4394."
I cringe at the clumsiness of my system ID. Even her bell-like voice can't improve its sound.
"Technically, yes, but..." I rub my nape. "Please, call me Quinn."
"As you like it, Mr. Quinn! Is this your first time challenging the 1st Class Trial Dungeon?"
I nod, and the clerk smiles wider.
"Then of course you want to play through the tutorial."
"We have one of those?" I thought they'd throw us in blind. I blink in surprise, the clerk leaning so far forward that I have to step back. "I-I don't know... those other newbies are still waiting outside. Do we have time for that?"
"Yes, we do!"

Without a nanosecond's pause, the clerk grabs my hands. She murmurs something inaudible and a [Warp Portal] glows to life beneath us.
Startled, I stumble backward. Very few NPCs know [Spatial Magic]. What's someone with her talents still doing here, showing greenhorns like me around? An NPC of her calibre could've moved on ages ago.
"No-one's played the tutorial in days," she says, grin turning foxlike. "You won't regret it, Mr. Quinn. I've added all sorts of fun things to the mix."
"I-is that right?" Why does that sound more dangerous than comforting!?
Cold air blasts from the net of flashing sigils underfoot, ruffling my mantle and the clerk's layered skirts. I catch a glimpse of her stocking-clad thighs before squeezing my eyes shut--you know, like a gentleman should.
"Teleportation commencing." The wind spiraling around us almost drowns out her voice. "Activation in four... three... two..."
I brace myself for the nausea that always accompanies warping. I've only warped twice to date, and both times I swore I'd never warp again.
"One!"
The clerk cheers, I yelp, and a pillar of crackling white light consumes us.

Sun God's Corruption
This is the world the gods have turned their backs on. Even these creatures, these holy divine beings, can be overwrought with greed. Amongst themselves, amongst their factions, wars were fought. Wars were lost. Now the power risks falling into the hands of a single God. What would the people do if they knew? Knew that the gates to heaven had been slammed shut. They couldn’t even see the blood pooling beneath their feet. They had to do something, anything, to appease the gods. Rarfu was a city long known for being the center of the world. It was the city where the gods came together, and their Temple's stood amongst each other in the grand state. However, the many temples' priests had grown ignorant to their God's silence, unaware that one by one they were dying off in a war of the Heavens. Cors, the Grand God of the Sun, the father of life, had become corrupt and jealous, wanting to wrench power from all the other gods. Tillia, the Goddess of Magick and Shadow, the only God to be able to stand up against Cors, uses her dying breath to reach out to her temple for help. Knowing that Cors has made his final move to walk amongst the humans, she gives her Essence, the core of her power, to Nethira, young girl of her temple. With her remaining strength, Tillia gives Nethira a single command. To save the balance of power she must appease him. UPDATES TUES/THURS after chapter 5 Cover art by Tumblr User: @pigeon-princess This book features characters that are related to in many ways to my other novel "Grimoire". While both stories are their own stand alone series, Sun God's Corruption will add a good amount of depth to Grimoire, and Grimoire shows the unfoldings of the world that will eventually come from the events in Sun God's Corruption. I reccomend reading them both interchangably.

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
