《Master of Learning (Color coded)》Chapter 24 Fixing the slums

I decide to redesign some of my weapons. I bought five more metal tubes and enchanted them with wind magic. Testing a tier three wind scroll shoots the rock out so fast it explodes! The wall it exploded on had visible damage done to it. Six tubes in total I'm going to make six scrolls and tie them together to create an even bigger attack.
“It could probably deal enough damage to kill a bear.” I think to myself, happy with the progress I made today. I head to the blacksmith to order a new sword. The sword I've been using has gotten a little to small to fit comfortably in my hand. While I'm there I make a few improvements to his forge with tinkerer. I enchant his forge with flare magic and his bellows with wind magic.
He got angry, to the point he was going to throw me out. Until he seen his forge roar with new and more powerful fire. With the changes I made it should be easier to get a hotter flame as well as take less coal or coke and it will also be easier to control the heat. Which you need to do to make better equipment.
“Alright boy, so why are you hear? I'm guessing its not just to confuse me by upgrading my forge then leaving.” The blacksmith was looking at me.
“I need two swords made.”
The blacksmith said they'd be done within a week. I hand him my sword to remove the gem from to place in the new sword. I also bought a five silver gem to put in Gobber's sword. I decided to have an average sword for him. To be honest, the sword I'm getting made is only a short sword which is the length between a dagger and a regular sword. Even though it is a new sword. The gem is so rare I still consider the new sword I'm having made my families sword.
Normal swords are still to big for me and Gobber most likely. If I give him the sword, he should be able to use it with both hands. I'll take the short sword for myself and grow into the sword to where I can wield it single handed. I'll just trade with him once I can. The gem I bought for him is half the effect of mine “five percent increased damage” not a rare but still pretty valuable.
To pay for a ten percent increase I might have to spend twenty or thirty silver. Which isn't worth a single gem for my underlings gear. I also ordered thirty bolts to be made, with the forge working better than ever. He should be able to make improved bolts that will do more damage. I'll give Gobber my old bolts and use the new ones.

I bought a handful of rings from him, they were thirty copper (twenty seven with merchants haggling) each. I bought ten altogether. Lastly I bought a rare crossbow from him, it cost fifty silver coins (forty five with haggling)…
Very expensive for one item. You could build a nice house for around that much. A little two or three room house with fifty coins easily but with nature magic. I could also just make my own house.
The crossbow, aptly named “Focusing crossbow”. Had two stats and an effect on it. Increase to damage, the speed of bolts fired and the effect increased the damage of bolts fired with focus shot. I'm not sure I can use tinkerer to make it stronger or if that will end up breaking it or removing the rarity from it.
I'm going to try to improve it anyways. I'd rather learn now then later on with something more expensive. I haven't seen many repeater crossbows. A few in my previous life but none yet in this one. I think this side of the world is less advanced then other parts. With woodworking and engineering I start making the crossbow a repeating one. I apply a lever system to it.
When I push it forwards it pulls the string back and moves the next bolt so it drops down into place. I use a six bolt clip, anymore and it would be too bulky and might mess with the string. The clips are easy to remove, I just press down on a latch holding it in place and it just slides out. I probably went from being able to fire four or five shots a minute to being able to fire twelve (two clips). I add a sight to help with aiming to the top of it. I inspect it again and it still has the rare quality on it…
Going to have to do the same for Gobber's crossbow. I make five clips all together. They'll be able to hold all of one type of arrow (poison, ice and fire) in three clips then two mixed clips. Thinking about it. I try to apply infused anti magic runes onto the bolts but it doesn't seem possible, maybe if the crossbow was bigger as well as the bolts? I can still infuse the arrows but it still wouldn't be worth it mana wise.
I decide to make a crossbow about three times the size of the one I'm using. It will end up being around the length of a long sword and around fifty pounds by the end. But if I can make the bolts big enough I should be able to add an extra permanent stat or element to the bolts it fires.
I could also use it for the initial attack or post Gobber far away with it able to fire bolts three or four times the distance. It would probably fire much slower. Maybe around two or three bolts per minute. Even still it seems like a good idea to try and make one. I start working on it but the normal lever just wouldn't work with the torque you'd need to pull the string back.

I decide on a crank to do it and it works out amazingly. If a nine year old is able to pull the string back, anyone should be able to. I start making the bolts, they're gigantic in comparison to the other crossbows. Three times as long, twice as thick. I could probably carry this crossbow around but there is no way I'd be able to fire it standing up. I'll need to order some metal bolts from the blacksmith to fit this crossbow too.
I hollow out the butt of the crossbow. Also some other parts where I could without effecting the crossbow's strength or accuracy. This reduced the weight by ten pounds. Test firing it obliterated the target. I walk back into town with it and get weird looks like normal when I do something different. Even so I consider it a success for now.
I still have a few days of vacation so I head to the slums. I've decided since I have the tutor job I might be able to teach some people how to use other classes. I make a few seats with control nature magic on the dirt and make a little podium for myself. I'm not sure how to start so I just start talking.
“Hello everyone, my names Kite and I'm going to tutor you on how to become a summoner as your second class. If you learn this you might be able to make food for yourself, just don't eat it to often or you'll get sick. Now everyone we're going to start with the basics of the basic.”
I start going over summoner, it takes awhile but a crowd starts to form. After I explain the basics of summoning someone yells.
“Holy shit! I actually learned summoner! This kid must be a genius tutor!”
I tutor for the rest of the day. Half of the people standing around have learned it. (It normally takes weeks to tutor someone in one thing for them to learn it) Not everyone has though but with that little help I might be able to make a difference eventually. I go to bed truly tired that night.
The next day I head back into the slums and do the same thing except this time I teach nature mage. If people can learn regrowth. They can make their own food very quick in comparison to growing it normally. A few people manage to learn that as well but I think their might be a barrier for some people just like Gobber. They're not able to learn magic classes. I head home and fall asleep quickly being worn out.
Before I head to the slums I make five flutes and crossbows. Both are easy enough to make and they're needed for the classes I'm teaching today. Same thing as yesterday I head to the slums to teach. I'm going to do a scatter shot and teach bard, archer and scout. The classes will not feed them but it will give them a chance to join the adventurers guild as support type classes. Which are typically rarer to find than normal classes.
Most people if they have the choice pick assault classes like warrior or fighter or thief and for their second class they pick the best class that suits the class they picked. Like warrior with berserker or thief with beast tamer, blue mage or illusionist. This time the crowd is quadruple the size of yesterdays which was bigger than the day before.
I start teaching archer the basics of the basics again same as always. I would've made bows instead of crossbows. Bows require a certain talent and strength to use adeptly. Where as anyone can use a crossbow. A few people come forward saying they learned it. I hand over the crossbows to them and they leave. I didn't have enough crossbows but no one expects me to I guess since I'm teaching for free.
Bard is next and the same thing happens. More people step forward claiming have learned bard. Its around seven and I don't know how to give away the flutes. I just let them sort it out moving onto scout. I don't have any items setup for scout but it'll be fine since its more for visual support of the group or as message runners or mail carriers. While starting to talk about scout the bards start fighting over the flutes.
Even being given a second chance isn't enough for some people. They also want more on top of that. I understand though. These people didn't have any hope for a future until today. Now someone else is trying to take there ability to live a better life away from them, by taking the free item that will help them get jobs as adventurers. At least that's the way they think.
I teach scout, some look disappointed it wasn't a better class they learned. Any secondary class is better than not having one and scout is underrated in my opinion.

The Cosmic Interloper
Synopsis: A cyborg transhuman escapes her corporate indenture and through unfathomably unlikely circumstances, she ends up in a fantasy world of full of unique magic, angry people with sharp implements, and the whole flavor-spectrum of divine entities. Hilarity ensues. Features: - No blue boxes or cultivation, this is not a LitRPG nor about martial arts - Hard-ish Sci-Fi meets hard-ish magic - Generally trying to keep this "rational" Rationale: My primary goal with The Cosmic Interloper is to write something that I myself would enjoy reading. Of course, that’s not the only motivation, but I think it’s the most important one for me to keep in mind, especially as the author. In fact, this whole story came about because after consuming oodles of fiction, I found myself craving a very specific type of story which I couldn’t find many examples of. Then I asked myself, “why not write it myself?” and here we are. Disclaimer: In general, while I’m not writing a comedy, I do intend for this story to be funny and a bit wacky or absurd. That said though, I am using this story as a vehicle to explore some potentially dark topics including (but not limited to) slavery, speciesism/racism, and existential questions of self, consciousness, and identity. Still, I’m going to leave the “traumatizing content” tags off, because I don’t feel that what I’ve written so far (or plan on writing) exceeds the threshold that would be necessary for me to tag it thusly. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way she views the world is not the objective truth (if such a thing even exists).
