《Master of Learning (Color coded)》Chapter 23 Reinforced beliefs

Did someone put Leaf up to this as a joke? I half expect to be laughed at once I get back to the school. But nothing comes of it. Leaf was being completely honest with her feelings… I'm more shocked than anything else… I guess Leaf isn't unattractive… Now that I think about it…
Damn it! What am I thinking about. Leaf wants to meet in six years? There is no way Leaf will still like me in six years. I wont break the promise, even though I didn't say it. If Leaf still wants to be with me in six years I wont turn her down.
School finished, Leaf graduated. The last few days of school were pretty awkward but we managed to get through it. Gobber and me have been training. He waits for me by the entrance learning from the guard while he waits. Once again I'm going to do some testing during the break. I'll leave him to his devices for awhile. First things first, I need a new set of gear.
Repeating previous actions, I sell my set and buy a weaker version. With my high level enchants and modifications to the gear. My old set outsells the set I'm buying. I buy a set that's more heavily armored this time. It's a lot closer to being a half leather half metal set of gear than my previous sets. I unsummon all of my familiars, wait for my mana to regenerate and enchant this set of gear.
I already bought another wooden sword so I have that already. I infused anti magic runes onto my weapons and it seems to be a permanent addition. It kind of acts like a second enchant to my weapons. Anti magic runes and infusions can only be applied to weapons. While enchants can be applied to anything.
I learned how to add stat boosts through enchanting. I give myself some stamina over defense. I line the inside with extra spider silk since I bought a set quite a bit bigger this time.
“The last set I bought couldn't fit me after the year.”
I thought making changes to this one. The next day I head to visit Lance, he should be graduating this year. I head to the boot camp area where people train their non magic classes. It has target dummies set up almost everywhere. Targets for archery but mostly melee training dummies. Some are in very bad shape but it also looks like brand new ones are out as well.

Heading to the building I see most of the school sparring. That's generally what this school does, not many lessons and all physical fighting or tangible practice. I look for awhile before I find Lance. He's in the middle of a group of people, as soon as he see's me he yells.
“Kite!”
Lance runs over and hugs me. We talk a bit about how he's been mostly. He's already level 40… Lance is impressive but it just feels unfair sometimes. At this rate Lance will probably unlock his third tier class tree from hitting one hundred twice. Most people don't do that in their lifetime.
He's also wearing new gear. The spear he got when we left is in pretty bad shape. I enchant his gear for him “For free of course” and seeing the spear reminds of something he probably hasn't heard yet…
I tell him about the village. Surprise shows in his face, then fear, then anger… I tell him its already been over a year.
“Why didn't you tell me sooner? We might have been able to do something!”
Lance doesn't understand so I explain it to him.
“There were enough bandits to wipe out a village Lance. What could two children do against that?”
It just seems to be making him angrier.
“You're smart you could have thought of something!”
It finally sinks in to him.
“Everyone from the village is dead...No more Beatrice or Trice… You're parents too Kite… I'm sorry about what I said. I wasn't thinking clearly.”
We talk for a bit more before I leave. I probably just ruined Lances graduation by telling him but I thought he should know. I do plan to get revenge as soon as I can against the bandits. Little by little I'm getting stronger and soon enough I'll be able to fight against one of them. Then two them, then three of them. I will kill everyone who's ever talked with the bandits who raided my village. Their will be a blood dept paid from them to the extent I feel satisfied.
Talking with Lance reignited some feelings I haven't had in awhile. I have to remember these feelings, bury them into my heart. There will be revenge.

The next day I spend familiarizing myself with the city. For how long I've lived here I still haven't searched through parts of it. I head to the book store. I learned a skill that lets me absorb books from scholar but I haven't gotten any practice with it yet. I decide to buy a few books and consume them right there. Each book takes about ten minutes to absorb (would probably take longer for bigger books).
I didn't learn any skills or anything but I felt some of my jobs improve since it was job based books. I also buy some vials to make into injection vials for me and Gobber. I'll make us both a few stat potions and a regen potions for our vials.
I head towards the slums next. It's in bad shape of course. I use some nature magic to fix holes in buildings and healing magic to cure diseases of sick street goers as well. I have a few hundred copper coins on me so everyone who asks for change I give them a few coins. I didn't realize this section was so bad. I might have been able to start fixing it for awhile now. I set up a stand and give out conjured food to anyone who wants it.
I manage to give away food to around fifty people that day. A mugger tried to steal my money but I managed to catch him before he got away. I reprimanded him but also gave some money to him as well. Some people are reborn as a low rebirth. Making it very hard to level their main class and normally hard for them to gain a secondary class.
A high level tutor should be able to teach them but they'd cost too much for anyone in the slums to afford. Maybe someday I'll be able to change the rules of this world so everyone gets a chance at living. This is all I can do for the slums right now.
After that I head to the adventurers guild. I'm a bit worn out from making all that food. I sacrificed my fatigue points four times for the mana to make that much food. I walk into the adventurers guild and get a sense of nostalgia. In my passed life I practically lived here. It's the same in almost every guild, people fighting and drinking. A request board with plenty of boring quests but some too hard for people to do so they stay on the board forever.
This place is a good area for any starting adventurer. You also get free room and board if you sign up here. It's expected that you'll do work and that the guild will take a five percent commission for all work done. I read through the quests and one catches my eye. “Extermination quest, killing gnolls two hours walk northeast of the city.” That's something I might be interested in doing soon. I look around one last time and notice someone.
“Kattie.”
I call out. She looks someone depressed and for the first time ever, I see her drunk.
“Hey Kite hows it going?”
We talk for a bit, it seems like she was in a dungeon clearing group for most of the time we've been in the city. It seems she already heard about what happened to the village. That why she's drinking.
“My sisters not dead though. Bandits don't kill pretty girls like her, which makes it worse than being dead.”
She starts crying a bit. Their has to be something I can do. The guards aren't going to travel to a city two weeks for a chance to kill bandits. Who may or may not even still be there. I could always make automatons but if I do that I may be seen as a threat to the capital. Taking the risk might be worth making an enemy of the capital just to get my revenge. Even if I miss a few weeks of school every person I talk with about this only makes me want revenge more.

8 282The Electric Messiah
Volume Two of the Ontogeny series. A time of unprecedented crisis has come. During a mission to the edge of the known world, Brigadier Weyland James discovered that humanity faces a threat so terrible that the sane mind can barely conceive it. Failure to meet this threat would mean the end of human civilisation, mankind thrown back to a life of wandering savagery, easy prey for the true masters of the planet who see humans as mere animals, theirs to use and exploit as they see fit.Hope exists, if all mankind can unite, putting aside their petty differences for the greater good, but the truth is so unbelievable that the Brigadier faces an almost impossible task in convincing the leaders of the human world. His task is made even harder by the fact that several governments have been infiltrated by agents of the enemy, who are using their influence to sow seeds of war and chaos. The Brigadier is not mankind's only hope, though. In Helberion, a small group of scientists, struggling to make a major scientific breakthrough, is being hampered by assassination and sabotage. Is this the work of the enemy of mankind? King Leothan hopes it is, because it would mean that the enemy fears this new science, that it could be used to create a powerful weapon against them. A weapon that could be the Saviour of Mankind. The Electric Messiah... This is the sequel to Ontogeny. If you haven't read that book yet you must read it before you read this book.
