《Master of Learning (Color coded)》Chapter 8 Close call

30% of our group died. Karn and two of his party members. Leaving 1 of his party, a villager, Leaf, Olaf and the 3 from Nooby Squad. I didn't know it was possible to get skills for other classes besides blue mage from monsters. It might be from my class but I'll have to verify that.
A quick inspection shows that the room we're in was where the lich was storing all of his treasure from looted adventurer's. There's a few pieces of gear. I notice a small pile of coins. On quick inspection it looks to be a few hundred copper with some silver coins mixed in. The lich himself dropped a staff and robe. The staff looks like it would increase summoning power... I would really like that staff but chances are Leaf will get it. If I put up a fight for it people might get suspicious.
Olaf calls out from behind me.
“Yo Kite! I seen what you did back there with healing magic. That makes you a white mage as well... What are you?”
I continue to hold the lie up.
“It was a healing scroll I used to heal you.”
I said, making eye contact with him challengingly.
“You are a liar. If you used a healing scroll, you'd have just used it. There would be no reason to chant it. ”
The only surviving member from Karn's group walked up close to Olaf and said.
“Whats it matter!? He saved your life shouldn't you be happy about tha-”
Cutting him off, Olaf chops the boy in half, money spilling out of him like the attack caused it. He then says.
“I need to know the biggest threats so I can take them out first. I'll get all the treasure to myself if everyone else is dead.”
He turned towards me, readying an attack! His mace isn't a mace anymore, it's a broad sword. Olaf is a grown man and I'm a 7 year old boy. He's easily twice my height and 3 times my weight. Even if we were around the same level I still wouldn't have a chance to beat him. He was still injured from the fight though.
I start pouring all my magic into a spell and manage to get off summon undead before he could get to me. Surprise showed in his eyes as he smashed through it instantly. I was waiting for that. Dropping his guard I knew I had 1 chance. So I lunged my sword towards his eye with an opportune strike! “Critical hit!”

I manage to run behind him as he swings violently, I'm completely out of mana. The only thing I could do was slice his achilles tendon with an opportune strike! “Critical hit!”
Now laying on his back, completely defenseless, I stab through his neck with an opportune strike! “Critical hit!” Blood gurgling out of his mouth as he tries to draw breath. His weapon swings in front of him a few more times before it drops from his hands. I wish I could have given him a quick death seeing him in so much pain... Then I remember what he had just done... How close he came to killing me... How he had killed someone else... Olaf stopped moving…

Silence filled the room… No one dared speak… Finally the oldest out of us all, Kattie broke the silence.
“I-I'm sorry you had to kill him K-Kite...”
She was clearly shaken up, her voice was trembling. Everyone was, including myself. Olaf's armor started to change. He looked like a generic bandit now. Red bandana, patched mishmash leather armor he probably stole from people he killed. He also had a giant bag of money on him. No one understood what just happened so I explained it.
“He was a bandit... He used disguise to change his appearance to a knight but he couldn't change his attacks. I beat him so easily because every attack was a critical hit...In a fair fight I would've completely lost.”
Feeling sick from almost dying. I head to a corner of the room and throw up. I've killed before in my previous life... I had no problems killing people... It was the fear of death that scared me to the point of sickness. I doubt anyone realizes how close we all just came to dying. If he killed me, Lance would be the only one who could have put a fight up against him. I pour some water on my head and clear my mind. We still have to go through the loot we've gained.

Going through all the loot we managed to get. A staff for Leaf the Lich dropped. A robe with no enchants on it (useless). Some generic equipment from the dead adventurers. All of Karn's gear was top notch. Me and Lance ended up splitting the weapons we could use. His armor was to big to fit us. 2 smoke bombs, a crossbow and 6 throwing knives from Karn.
I took the crossbow and Lance got the other weapons. His sword was the best piece but was too cumbersome for me to use, even with both hands so we'll sell it. The gear Olaf had might have been patchwork but it was still worth something. Carrying around 400 hundred pounds of equipment would've been too much. We had to determine what we were to taking. Most of the gear the skeletons dropped wasn't worth carrying. So chances are, Leaf or the other villager will come back to get the equipment after we leave.
We made it back to the village fairly easily. The total value of everything we sold. Plus the money we got from the lich and Olaf was around 60 silver coins. There was also a bounty on the lich's head for 1 gold coin. After splitting the money, we all ended up with 32 silver coins…
Most non adventurers make around 5 to 10 silver coins for a years worth of work. Unless they are a merchant or someone who sells items to adventurers. Any job that was based on performance like farmer or blacksmith would also be able to earn more depending on their ability. I didn't take an extra portion for myself. I didn't end up selling the sword. The local blacksmith said it was a rare weapon and he didn't have the money to buy it. Closer inspection of the item revealed that it had 2 enchants on it as well as an effect. Increased damage to skeletons…
Well isn't that convenient. This weapon was probably the reason we managed to kill the lich at all and not get completely wiped out. The total value of the sword was over 1 gold but I didn't tell the group how much it was actually worth. The blacksmith in this small village couldn't buy it. We decided to stay another night at the village.
The inn of the village didn't have any rooms, just beds laying side by side. Me and Lance ended up talking that night.
“Hey Kite...Do you think what you did was right?"
Both of us laying in separate beds looking up at the ceiling. Each time one of us speaks the other would wait a few seconds, really letting what the other said sink in.
“Yea, if I didn't kill him he might have ended up killing everyone there.”
“Still it didn't seem right. To just take a life like that.”
“Yea my hands were shaking for hours after that.”
Even in my past life I only had to kill a few people, all bandits Olaf but no one at this age. Not someone who could have easily killed me if he waited until he was full health. If he wasn't so full of himself he could have killed us far easier in only a few more minutes. If he waited for Kattie to heal him, hadn't said anything and just started killing us... He could have done it... He could have killed us all, perhaps even without a fight.
“I guess that's just what it means to be an adventurer... Do you think if I get famous enough my mom will come back to adventure with me?”
... I didn't have the nerve to tell him.

A World With or Without Aliens
Nothing matters. It's not my opinion, it's a scientific fact. This is neither good nor bad, it just... is. I watched my entire country burn, fried on a patriotic pan after some jerk fired a bunch of nukes at the docile fleet of alien ships hovering over us. Who gave this moron such power? I don't know. Everyone involved is most likely dead by now. As for me, I can't die. I feel pain like a normal person would (I think), but no matter how terrible the conditions, I will never die or pass out. Fortunately, a lot of alien technology survived its crash to Earth, so I get to spend some time playing with it until Mr. Author gets bored and decides to screw up my life. Beware, this has a "harem" tag. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm the main character and am therefore subject to this novel's timeline. While this bars me from the sweet ignorance of Chapter 1's me, it does have other perks... for example, I can tell you that heroine number one is personally responsible for kil-!? H-hey, back off! I'm your character, so if you didn't want me to be like this, then you should've written me differently! Randomguy here! In all seriousness, this novel is meant to explore the concept of nihilism as a post-apocalyptic/supernatural-scifi/satire told from a nihilistic introvert's first-person perspective. As you heard from my unsettled main character, each heroine is going to be a different type of horrifying socio/psychopath with dark motives and dangerous abilities (most of which are psychological). Why would I do something like this? Because I am, in reality, a nihilist who is often frustrated by weird things, like unrealistically dramatic stories, the industrialization of art (specifically music), and people who think swimming in brown creekwater for five hours is a "fun" activity. Don't get me wrong, neither me nor my character are depressed, we're just malcontents who make a lot of nerd references. I feel like the true essence of an "everything is worthless" perspective is lost on most pop-culture figures. The closest character I can think of at the moment is Rick from Rick and Morty, who is a drunk, angry nihilist that experienced tremendous loss. I, personally, find this belligerent state of mind to be very relatable, and have incorperated it into every chapter's introduction. Here, the main character talks directly to the reader (and me), shamelessly complaining about some semi-relevant facet of society, which probably doesn't make much sense... it's not really supposed to, though. These "angry nihilist" moments are just a peak into the main character's everyday existence, and also act as miniature rage-journals for me. It will sometimes take a subjectively 'positive' turn, but not very often. This is because reality isn't good or bad, "it just... is". I will eventually bring it full-circle to optimistic nihilism, since that seems to be a more practical way to live (and by "practical", I mean "doesn't create mental health issues"). It is, of course, a satire. I did this because most unnecessarily emotional moments or people usually make me feel kind of awkward, so I decided to mock them. That is, I plan to mock the characteristics about them I don't like in characters based solely off said characteristics. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my story!
