History Report 3227- August 28, 2104
The situation on the surface is further degrading due to the unknown monsters being somehow born on Earth, and even with the people awakening the ability to use magic to fight back we still were losing ground everywhere. Over the past 87 years since it began humanity first lost control of Australia, Africa, most of South America, most of Eastern Europe and Central Asia and the areas surrounding the Western U.S., and the Pacific ocean became a dead zone for any ship traveling there. To stop the massive flow of monsters in the early years of what we now call the War of Dungeons most of these areas were all nuked after all population centers were either lost or evacuated.
During the 7th year of the war, we made a breakthrough by integrating modern technology with magic enabling humanity to hold back the flood for the time but never allowing us to push it back and recover any lost territory.
During the 9th year of the war during an expedition in what used to be Sydney, Australia one of the few cities with little radiation after the bombs, we found what might have been the source of these monsters destroying the world, areas of extreme magical density that many have taken to calling Dungeons. After the first discovery, we found numerous reading of these dungeons throughout the world some spewing out monsters while others were keeping quiet and to themselves in some of the densest population centers.
The 11th year was when we finally captured a dungeon in England a very passive Dungeon that was only found by chance during construction of a new research facility. What we believe to be the core was captured and used for research. That year the Union of Magical Research and Development was founded with the sole intent of learning from the core headquartered in the old U.N. building in New York City.
By the 20th year of the war, eight other dungeons were captured seven being from the more passive dungeons and one aggressive dungeon from old South Africa only after suffering heavy casualties in the tens of thousands during the many attempts. That year many passive dungeons became active and what we have taken to call being corrupted resulting in the loss of all but East Asian, France, Spain, Italy, England, the northeast coast of North America and India.
At the start of the 21st year all the reaming nations of the earth, united under the flag of the UN and the UMRD was given unlimited resources to pursue new ways of fighting back. During this year many cults worshipping the “new gods” some seeking to save humanity others trying further bring about the death of the world, with the cult of Thoth taking control of the UMRD during the 24th year it heralded the end of the old earth religions.

During the 43rd year of the UMRD announced the construction of a city in the sky that would fit most of humanity above the Atlantic Ocean that would be finished in only four years due to the advances in magic technology. As promised it the City of Caelum, sky in Latin, was completed. But not soon enough to save rest of East Asia which was quickly followed by the most of humanity's territory over next few months with the exception of Europe whose cores remained passive and New York City which was heavily fortified by the UMRD. This was what many people considered the end of the War of Dungeons.
During the 48th year, New York City was fortified to the extreme to protect the UMRD headquarters and further stop monsters that were growing ever more aggressive in the old southern U.S.
The 49th year saw a new head of the UMRD Dr. Ryan Walker and with him a significant breakthrough in dungeon research. Over the years they gained several dozen cores and finally found a way to extract the mana within in them and ultimately recreate the ability to make life like the monsters.
The 54th year saw this goal completed the UMRD managed to create life a single homunculus. After its birth, some of the cults that had formed began terrorist actions against the UMRD who saw the UMRD as heretics that went against their gods. This was beginning of the Caelum War that continues till today and which humanity saw loss all of its territories, due to an increase in dungeon aggression, except for the City of Caelum the UMRD headquarters in NYC. Caelum had become the main population center and an impregnable fortress leading to stalemate we have reached today. No cores can naturally form in the city, and any invading monsters are quickly destroyed before they can reach the outer perimeter. Humanity has no more territory to lose on the ground, and the monsters have no way to take Caelum in the sky.
At the start of the 56th year, the UMRD overthrew the U.N. and took control of Caelum in a popular uprising, using their reputation as the saviors of humanity. Adding in the fact the U.N. government had done little to help the people and their failing policies only worsening the situation. The UMRD then ushered in martial law that continues to this day in an effort to wipe out the now two cults that continue the Caelum wars. The cults use previously unknown forms of magic which have been named death and chaos magic and seem only to be connected by their mutual hatred of the UMRD. One worshiping the Goddess of Death Mania and the other worshipping Lyssa the Goddess of Chaos and Insanity.

Presently the UMRD has continued its experiments on the homunculus which some of the doctors in headquarters have taken to calling Alice. She was fully “born” during the 94th year after extreme genetic manipulation but has been conscious since the 77th year. They created her to look as human as possible and succeeded in doing except for a distinct lack of pigment anywhere on her body leaving her pure white except for her eyes that are like a swirling rainbow being sucked in pitch black pupils a very striking and lovely feature.
“As if looking into the abyss with such beauty and madness that if you stare too long, you would be sucked in with your sense of self-lost forever”- Dr. Ryan Walker.
All in all, Alice looked like a charming girl although a bit small for her physical age of 10 as of July 10th but still mentally 33.
She has undergone training in all aspects of magic, combat and general study. As well many rituals and surgeries. This being for one simple reason she is the prototype weapon to kill dungeons and was born from the mana of many sacrificed dungeon cores. Being the prototype for future soldiers born from the cores she was and is still subject to extreme stress testing. To see how much her artificial mind and body can take using as a baseline for the next generation of soldiers.
Her being considered a monster born from the evil of dungeons is the only reason why the UMRD has gotten away with such cruel treatment that's tantamount to torture of what looks so much like a child. The psychological conditioning has made many of the doctor's voice their objections, due to that fact that it has made many veteran soldiers go insane and or kill themselves due to its severe harshness and cruelty of the conditioning. But Dr. Walker had them quickly and discreetly “redeployed” them to dungeon expeditions as well as any other that showed Alice too much kindness claiming they were corrupting the subject and hampering the conditioning.

The Homunculus also called Alice as stated in other reports is fully ready for combat physically, but mentally the physiological conditioning was far too hard on it. The Homunculus is simply too unstable, and quite frankly many on the team feel it's a waste to proceed. We need to build its mental faculties back up as of now it already killed four guards just because they surprised it in only the past two days.
We have no idea how it will react to combat in some cases it merely breaks down terrified, and in some cases, it won't stop destroying everything in sight until it passes out due exertion of mana and exhaustion or its injuries. But I will also say that in all fights against monsters where it fought with even with a half stable mind were beyond expectations even fighting a young troll without injury. Even the experimental regeneration implant has taken full effect healing it while also recreating any implants lost to any injury recognizing them as part of the body. Even going so far as to regenerate the subject from headshots from snipers still considering they were low caliber and render it unconscious, still quite impressive.
To Project Alpha Team Head Brian Thompson
As you may know the situation with the cults is getting out of hand and not only is New York City in danger but even the City of Caelum is at risk of falling out of the sky, so I will make this clear. You will have the Homunculus ready for combat testing on September 1st, or I will send you on an expedition into a dungeon. Neither I or the UMRD will accept any excuses or delays on the matter.
From Dr. Ryan Walker
Head of the Union of Magical Research and Development
To Dr. Ryan Walker
