《Bathilda the Bat》Wing Slash
Advertisement
After composing herself from the aftermath of her latest tale of woe, Bathilda has decided she isn't going to go any further until she gets a proper reign on her new life. Tired of losing and narrowly escaping death, she is currently stood in the room calling out words related to her situation.
'HP... Health... Magic... Skills,' after calling out the last one, Bathilda's skill list opens and is displayed infront of her in written context, the same way her notifications are.
Skills:
Chomp+ Level 5
Echolocation+ Level 5
Flight Level 4
Poison Fang Level 3
Iron Body Level 3
Swift Wing Level 2
Identify Level 2
Wing Slash Level 1
'I've got eight skills!? I completely forgot about wing slash, I'll have to test it in the dead brat in a minute. First I need to work out where my actual status is,' with mention of the word itself, the skill list fades away and a new list is displayed.
Name: Bathilda
Race: Poisonous Bat
Class: None
Title: None
Level: 7
XP needed until next Level: 228
HP: 58/58
MP: 58/58
'I have MP as well! Not that I know how to use it. It is a nice sight to see now that I've figured out how to look at my health. 228 XP until my next level? No idea if that's good or bad but I've been doing relatively well on the levelling up front, so it can't be too much. It's the fighting side I'm struggling to grasp. If I was a little faster I could have gotten away and let the poison work its magic but it wasn't meant to be. Anyway, time to test Wing Slash and see what it can do,' wanting to know everything she possibly can about herself, Bathilda turns to bisected corpse of the Brat and begins her practice.

With a single swing of her wing, Bathilda produces an undeniably sharp blade of air which she launches forward removing the hand of her dead enemy. After a dozen or so more, and 2 extra levels, the remains of the monster once known as a Brat have been diced up into little pieces of furry meat.
Undeniably happy and overwhelmingly shocked at the same time, Bathilda mouth curves into a big bat smile. The ridiculous power of Wing Blade would have helped Bathilda out tremendously in the last battle. If only she had known its capabilities back then, it would also have helped if she hadn't forgotten about it, not that Chomp didn't bite its way through enough meat not to be worth its place in her skill list.
So far, the mouth that she can't speak with has been responsible for the death of three monsters. The first to feel her bite was literally on its deathbed as she lay motionless above it but the other two, she killed herself and both of them were healthy monsters. One had succumbed to a venom infected Chomp that Bathilda had used before fleeing and the other didn't manage to keep his head in time for the poison to sink in. Either way she lookes at it, her teeth delivered a justice of her own to all three enemies she has engaged so far.
'Now I've got a new move, do I try myself against the Brat horde? Or, do I keep on this path, which seems safer for now. I know, I'll fight the horde. Not!' setting off, she traverses the empty room before reaching the next tunnel. Her vision extends partially to the room beyond but only a fraction of it can be seen. Always a cautious cactuar, Bathilda casts Echolocation and with the aid of Identify coupled onto the skill passively.

She can see two monsters in the next room engaged in their own death match. With Identify earning a level up after her last fight it now shows Bathilda rather good news in the form of health bars below the two duelling creatures names. In an equally bad turn of events, it would appear that Brats have around 300HP and the Alto that it's fighting has 400HP.
'Why the hell do they have so much health compared to me? Is it a species thing? Am I being discriminated against without even knowing it? Shut up Bathilda! Concentrate! I can't squander this perfect opportunity that I've been handed, can I? I swear it's getting weirder by the moment. Bathilda! Am I really shouting at myself? It doesn't matter. This time I'm definitely using Wing Slash on that Brat. I wonder if it's as effective on living monsters? The first one hadn't been deceased too long before he was carved up... I don't think? I did zone out for a while as I was chowing down, so I may have lost track of time. That shouldn't matter though, it can't have been that long as rigor mortis hadn't kicked in yet. Either way, he's getting a slash. The Alto on the other hand... I haven't seen one those before,' the creature she is looking at resembles an Arctic Hare in every way. The only noteable differences are that it has the same red beady eyes as the Brat and long sharp claws that extend from its cuddly paws. The white rabbit is taller than the more commonly seen rodent that it is kicking and biting into, sending a shiver down Bathilda's back. The enemy on the receiving end of the furious footed onslaught isn't fairing as well as the larger, more agile creature. The Alto is clearly the dominant species in this brawl as every attack the Brat throws is dodged or evaded with graceful speed.
'If I can, I'm just going to bite that thing in the ass and run away. It should die after a while due to my skill and I'll get to see how effective my Poison Chomp combo can be now I can see their numbers. Two enemies though. Am I ready for this? What if they team up on me when I arrive? Or what if the Alto is too fast? Shut up you gigantic pussy! The rat is nearly dead, get in there now!' after a few seconds of stunned silence, Bathilda does as she is told and sets off to join the fight, wondering all the while what's going on inside her head.

Ancient Bones: The Changed Ones book 1 (Post-Post Apocalypse LitRPG)
Is it truly an RPG Apocalypse... if no one can see the RPG? Generations after the Fall, Mankind has achieved a balance in a world it is no longer the master of. But your prospects in this Malthusian world are limited. Johanna Milton and her friends have an answer: delve into Ancient ruins, avoid Changed beasts and mana pockets, and salvage Ancient materials, collectibles, and trinkets to sell. It pays well if you avoid the perils of the Ancient world. But when they find the skeleton of an Ancient, their lives take a strange turn. Suddenly, Talents straight out of fantasy novels become theirs. While they try to make sense of what happens, eyes turn to them, to the four who seem to break all rules. Or are they merely following them? Because, in the Beyond where he's spent 150 years waiting, one dead Ancient knows the truth. Douglas Moore has played those games often enough when he was alive to make sense of the System that rules the Changed world. He can no longer act on his own, but he has access to the Interface. And four people for which he can bring whatever it takes to face the world. Change is coming. The Changed Ones is a slow-burn litrpg fantasy trilogy (Ancient Bones, Ancient Books, Ancient Bonds) set on Earth, 150 years after the RPG Apocalypse... which mostly failed. It is an homage to the venerable ancient RPGs of the Golden Box era, the Baldur's Gates, and many others, offering adventure where You must gather your party before venturing forth. Keywords: LitRPG, realistic setting, low-leveling, post-post-apocalypse, fantasy earth, slow-burn, secondary POVs, female primary MC, team adventure, worldbuilding. Trigger warnings: casual swearing, adult innuendo (no explicit scenes whatsoever, though). Oh, and potentially a bit of politics. Bonus content: a Litrpg Easter Egg hunt. With lots of eggs across the book, some easy, some hard to find. Current score: 6/20 (20 eggs, 6 found) Publication schedule: on hold until September for book 2.
