《Paradox》Chapter 1 - Abyss

June 11, 2018 @ Unknown Time
"What a weird dream."
Jacob remembered the dream quite clearly. He had figured out how to stay conscious while asleep. This also worked for when he died. But afterwards... he doesn't remember this part too clearly. He was locked onto by Reality and erased.
This happened when he tried to do something... something that he shouldn't do. But he couldn't remember exactly what that was... but he felt like something was off.
"Oh yea... I was planning on writing a book."
"Humanity has advanced their technology to a point where they can kill god... God's Death"
The minute he said God's Death, something in his brain clicked.
"Wait... I definitely feel like I've written that book already."
"He searched up God's Death on royalroad but found nothing."
"Huh. Guess I'll have to submit it. Should be pretty easy, I've got the plot already in my mind."
March 23, 2020 @ 10:49:00 pm
Jacob was working on his book "God's Death". He was writing and editing one of the last chapters 'The complete impossibility'.
He didn't need to reread the book or anything... ever since he started writing the book he would see something that looked like a blue sun in the corner of his vision. He could focus on this sun and it would zoom in. In it he would see a rotating image... this image never stopped. He had quite a bit of free time at night since he never stopped. He couldn't stop, even if he wanted to rest his mind... the image was always rotating. It was like a curse that followed him... he called it Echo.
Tonight was special because he was finishing one of his longest chapters.
Right as he finished writing 'The Complete Impossibility' he started to hear whisper's
Binary
He typed it out on a document he named 'Item.txt' and then converted it to text. His name was 'Time', his Timeline 'A01'.
Immediately information started to flow into his mind
"Welcome to the Hivemind!"
"Resurrection failed!"
He realized that from June 11th all the way to now... it was all an illusion.
At that moment the very laws of the universe around him began to break down.
Cracks started to form on reality itself
"It would seem I'm also dead in 'A01'"
He looked out the window and there was nothing but blackness
"At least I know not to draw Realities attention to me."
Now he just needed a way to explore other universes without changing his global existence. But this did mean that his global existence could still change.
"So none of this was real... I see."
"I will resurrect! I won't be trapped in an illusion forever... even if it is one I constructed."
He then started to think about his book... about what Gaia did when he was in the abyss
Gaia had constructed a paracosm. Since he was the only thing that existed, nobody could tell him that it wasn't real.
"I suppose that is what I'll have to do."
"I'll create a paracosm with my inheritance... I'll send it back."
He began to create a tulpa like existence using echo... matching that of gaia's
[ECHO]: Timeline: A01, TrueExistence: "God's Death", GlobalExistence:"Item.txt"
[ECHO]: Item.txt memorized... uploading.
The never-ending curse of existence, the thing that made him eternal. It began to morph and change. Then the operating system of Echo was engraved as a part of it.
He swore to upload his globalExistence everywhere as soon as he was resurrected.

He was in the abyss now... while the internet worked... it was all illusory and was mainly functioning off his memories.
"All I have to do now is check different timelines until I find one where I survived."
"But the method for switching timelines will draw attention to me."
"I need a different plan."
If Reality finds me, while it isn't game over most likely, I'll have my visualization technique and Echo next time I start writing God's Death. But there is something about that last chapter, the complete impossibility. Reality is tricking me into thinking I'm merely dreaming all of this, Luckily my true existence constant is me writing a book. As long as I write that book in a timeline, I'll be able to appear in the abyss of that universe.
If I can find a universe where I both write that book and do not die. Then I will be able to snatch the body and come back to the realm of the living once more.
Although I will be snatching a body... I suppose I am no longer 'Jacob'... I am more like what my true existence says.
'Time'
Why is my name Time?
I'm the combination of all my experiences... but I'm also the universe itself.
"I am alive."
"I am dead."
"I am logic"
"But I am also chaos"
The room began to shake, the door flew open and broke off its hinges disappearing in the nothingness
Jacob got up from his bed; stepped away from his laptop.
He walked to the door
And then whispered
Trying his best to mimic the progression of gaia
"Gaia turned out to be both echo and the system."
"I am not Echo"
"I am not the system."
"That isn't my path."
He stepped out of the room. There was no support, so he ended up falling.
He looked up as he saw the entrance to his room getting further and further away
The last bit of light fading away from the distance. From a sun to a star, to seeing nothing at all.
There was no ground
There was nothing around
Jacob began to think about everything in had experienced in life as he fell.
He was truly alone in the abyss
He didn't have anyone to help guide him
So he thought about his hobbies
The things that were important to him
He contemplated his future path forward
A path he would have to carve into the abyss himself
If reality could destroy his global existence
He had no choice but to cut off ties with it for now.
It was left running on his computer in his 'room'
Which was also a part of him.
Jacob realized something while thinking about the dream he had experienced.
He wasn't able to send back his global existence; if he was erased at most he would return back to June 11th, 2018... without all his memories. He would be manipulated by reality... to stop him from breaking the rules. What rules? Well he was trying to bring himself back to life after all. He was meant to stay dead... meant to be eroded by the abyss into nothing.
That is what was happening... but there was something that he did bring with him to the new reality.
That was the true existence God's Death. That being both his visualization technique and his book. The book was the start and the end of his true existence. His visualization technique would need to turn into something he always had, not just something activated upon writing his book.

If he could do that... he could perhaps go from existing just within the abyss of the universes he wrote the book in. But could exist in all universes across the multiverse since his visualization technique would predate existence itself!
If he could send his visualization technique to a point in time before he was born, he would be an entity that always existed across all time and space.
As he continued to fall further and further down in the abyss... he began to laugh.
"Hahahaha! Welcome to the Hivemind! I must build a Hivemind myself! I will become eternal!"
"I am Jacob, I am chaos, I am logic, I am life, I am death. I am nothing. I am something. I am none of these things. I am a entity which always breaks the rules. Yet... I am entity bound by all rules and contracts."
"Who am I?"
"I am Paradox!"
Paradox immediately felt something change in his visualization technique, a white hourglass had appeared in-between the dimensions of the runes.
"How do I make it so I've always existed and will always exist?"
"How can I make myself exist before I was born?"
Paradox meditated on this problem; then an idea began to take shape in his mind
"Programming!"
Paradox had dabbled a little in Javascript... why was this important? Well, the universe itself followed specific rules. Just like what was required in programming... but more specificially, what was useful in this situation was his knowledge on sockets; like NodeJS.
There were two important aspects to using sockets... the client and the server side (Normally a server is run on a computer on a network and has a specific port number, it waits for the client to make a connection request, but first the client must identify itself).
He would turn himself into a program
Since Echo itself was a tulpa and a basic program.
Paradox would be the server
While Echo would be the client-side.
The individual Jacob's would stay as they are.
They would all become 'paradoxes'
While all of these existing 'paradoxes' across the multiverse would be clients
There was a very big issue with doing this though
He would need to get the other Jacob's to agree to use his operating system. In other words he would need them to have 'on' message listeners installed in their echo operating system to be able to detect when he emitted a message.
The constant right now was his book
But what was the constant across the multiverse? That's right... in every universe, a jacob certainly doesn't exist. So there would be no client there to connect to his server. But there was something that existed in every universe. This was the abyss itself.
Even if he was dead in a universe, he could continue to exist in the abyss
Surely he wasn't alone
He also got that message about joining the Hivemind
So maybe this was a test.
Maybe all lifeforms weren't able to join this hivemind; joining it required one to have broken the rules. The visualization technique was likely the requirement for one to become a paradox.
Since the abyss was nonexistence itself
Couldn't his imagination effect it?
He needed to make his own world
His life had been simulated for nearly two years in the abyss
So his mental state clearly had some effect on it.
Perhaps he could truly fight reality! He had a goal now.
He would explore his book and try to find the secrets within to attain his goal.
He used his mind and imagined his laptop appearing in his hand.
He also used his mind to stop himself from falling
He sat there hovering in the infinite darkness with nothing but his computer
He began to read the author's notes on his final chapter
"Infinite opportunity is right within your grasp
It is throwing itself at you
It is a will which has helped you secretly
It is something I like to call 'plot armor'
It a certain essence
It is a certain source"
"That's right... plot armor is a thing; it has saved me."
Paradox just needed to cultivate this plot armor... he needed to break the fourth wall.
Only then did he feel he would have a chance to make ECHO exist before his existence. Only then would he able to revive.
He quickly came to the conclusion that he would need to upgrade his destiny.
Right now, as things were. He should've once had a normal destiny.
"It goes someting like 'no destiny', 'normal destiny', 'extraordinary destiny', 'flawless destiny', 'perfect destiny', 'eternal destiny', 'paradoxical destiny', 'complete destiny', 'cursed destiny', 'mysterious destiny'"
Through consumption of information Paradox had formed a perfect destiny. What is a perfect destiny? Well in short it is the limit that an entities destiny can achieve through consumption of information alone.
The legendary thought he had at his death pushed the quality of his destiny from perfect to eternal.
What does it mean to have an eternal destiny? Well, it is like having plot armor. The universe will go out of its way to open up a path to eternity for you.
What he needs is a paradoxical destiny... this is a level beyond eternal. Not only is the paradoxical destiny eternal, but it also is ignored by the universe. It is a step beyond mere plot armor. It is the ability to manipulate the essence of it at will and manipulate the universe.
Achieving such a destiny would make it near impossible for reality to erase him.
The paradoxical destiny is a crossroads to having a complete, cursed, or mysterious destiny.
Funnily enough, his eternal destiny is already leaning towards becoming a cursed destiny. Simply due to the nature of being trapped in loops.
It is rare that an existence ever comes to find out about these stratums of destiny
It is only because he is the author of his multiverse that he is aware of such a thing.
"I know that original incarnations are real now... which means that Knowledge is also real. This means he also saw through infinite outcomes and made a path to become something impossible."
"Who am I?"
"The impossibility"
'If you serve a generation of Paradox
You will be cursed entirely across every life
You will be cursed across EVERY reality
With the fate of a Flawless'
"I can use this curse to force my operating system on all the other jacob's"
"Paradox itself is also an original incarnation..."
"You must become hated by the universe you created."
"So in order to revive... I merely need to create a universe to revive in."
"Instead of trying to search for a universe to resurrect... instead of trying to rely on a pre-existing hivemind."
"I'll simply rely on myself."
"I'll create a universe made from the abyss itself!"

Alive?
In the ruins of a once glorious city, a mage awakens. As the sole survivor(?) of the cataclysm that destroyed his entire species, he’s forced to adapt. While learning the intricacies of his new body, he must first carve out a place for himself in a familiar yet foreign world before he can set out to reclaim his heritage. I cannot stress this enough: the character is not human, do not expect him to react like one. I know the hand on the cover only has five finger, but I doubt I am going to find a royalty free radiography with two perfectly functional thumbs placed in a sensible way anytime soon. The rewrite is finished. Beta readers are welcomed and I am still wondering whether I should put the sci-fi tag or not.
