《Legacy of the Ancient》Chapter 24 - Town of Harnow

Cain went to the town of Harnow in the next day. He left early in the morning so he could return to Haneama at least in the evening. The Coronation Day was the day after afterall.
He left Beil with Meira, because Meira insisted. Beil seemed not objected as well.
Harnow town was not affected by the recent event. It’s quite a lively town.
He went to said academy called Gaf Namoro Academy. Cain found it easy because the building was near the entrance gate to the town.
“Welcome! What can we do for you, young man?” Cain was greeted at the academy gate by an old man with a goatee beard. He wore a green robe with blue ornament on it.
“I was told there are artifact experts in here, can I see one?” asked Cain.
“Ooh, come to appraise items?”
“Yeah, more or less.”
“Alright then, come, come, follow me. The name’s Kasimm. What should I call you?”
Cain introduced himself and followed Kasimm.
They walked through the gate and entered the academy. Some of teens with robes were passing by. They were the students of Gaf Namoro Academy.
Cain, whose education did not come from an academy or school, this was his first time came to such place.
“Hoo… so this is an academy.” he peeked a bit to a room filled with students from a window as they passed by.
“Are you interested in rolling to our academy, Cain?” Kasimm couldn't help to ask because he saw Cain was a bit excited. “Of course we have no age restriction for whoever wants an education.” said Kasimm.
“Ahh… no, I already have my education.”
Kasimm just smiled and nodded. If Cain told him he was educated and taught by the Mighty Igo, Kasimm wouldn't believe him.
“Here we are.” they stopped in front of a door.
There was ‘Master Aslein’ written on a plank above the door.
“I’ll leave you to your business, Cain.” With that, Kasimm left Cain and went back to the academy gate.
“Come in.” a voice came from behind the door.
Cain opened the door and entered the room. The room was well lighted with the sunlight from a big window across the room. The room wasn't big nor small, with a complete set of sofa it looked more like a place to relax rather than an appraisal service place. But the artifacts and weird items that decorated the walls were there to deny it.
Behind an antique wooden desk, an elderly man stood up from his chair and shook hands with Cain. He wore a black robe.
“Hello, I’m Cain.” introduced Cain.
“Master Aslein.” The elder smiled. “So, where is this item you want to appraise? Be warned though, my services are expensive.”
This elder who introduced himself as Master Alsein looked eager to see what Cain brought while maintaining his excitement as he warned Cain about the cost.
“Hm… sorry, I didn't bring much money, but how about I trade with this.” Cain showed him some diamonds.

“Diamonds? And a high quality ones? Hmm… this very much will do,” Master Aslein only glanced at the diamonds, yet he could already tell the diamonds were high quality ones. “So, where is this item?” he didn't immediately take the diamonds, instead, he asked about the item.
“This.” Cain showed his left hand to Master Aslein.
“Hmm? What? This bracelet?” Master Aslein observed the bracelet. “Hmm… this looks ordinary, but I feel a faint trace of magic… oh? Made of bone? Interesting…”
Master Aslein lost in his observation.
“Err… Master Aslein? How is it?”
“Ah!? A-ahem! Well, can you take it off?”
“Nope, I can't. It drilled through my wrist.”
“Drilled!?”
“It attached itself to my hand then drilled through my wrist.”
“Attached itself? Hmm… then, cursed item? Possibility… yet there's no malicious aura on it.” said Master Aslein.
Cursed items were incredible and rare items that gave the wearer tremendous strength. But in order to use it, the wearer had to give something in return. Each cursed item had different of what the wearer must gave in order to use it.
Most common was blood and the rarest was the soul of the bearer. The power it gave was also no joke, the strongest of cursed item that ever recorded was used during ancient times, a certain heroine sunk an entire continent to prevent a calamity to devour the whole world in exchange of her life.
It was also not hard to identify a cursed item, usually it shrouded by dark and malicious aura.
“What does it do?” Master Aslein observed the bracelet closely.
“It enhances my ability and such. Also a weapon.”
“A weapon? Hmm… then, what do you give in for it?”
“Actually that’s what I want to know myself. I fed it my energy, but I suspect also my bones.”
“Heh, nasty one… probably just a cursed item with low abilities. Wait, you said a weapon?”
“Yeah, a gauntlet.”
“Mind to show me?”
“Alright... here it is.” Cain a bit reluctant because his very bones could be used for the Gauntlet even it’s just a bit, but he had to know any information about the bracelet. He poured his energy to the bracelet.
Then, blue flame appeared from the bracelet and wrapped Cain’s left hand in no time.
“Blue flame!?” Master Aslein was surprised to see the blue flame.
The blue flame revealed a gauntlet.
“Interesting! It morphed into a gauntlet with a blue flame transition!” Master Aslein inspected the gauntlet from its finger to elbow parts.
“Not only it looks strong, it also has an intimidating form.” he said.
“So, do you know about it?” asked Cain.
“I think it’s Arm of Demon Gauntlet. A cursed item as expected. Come here.”
“(Huh?)” Cain frowned a bit upon hearing the name.
Master Aslein showed Cain an old thick book he took from a bookshelf.
He opened the book and showed a page that described the Arm of Demon Gauntlet. But had no pictures of it.

“It says, it’s made from the bones of Grizzly Demonic Gorilla, a rare beast. It sucks the wearer’s bone little by little. Though it did not mention about it had an original form of a bracelet or blue flame.” said Master Aslein.
“Hmm… I don't think it is. I know its name is Azure Bone Gauntlet.” Cain expressed his disappointment as the item appraiser didn’t know the gauntlet. But he couldn't blame him, even the Book of Gomara said it was a forgotten item. The information about it or even the knowledge of its existence could be already long gone.
“Huh? You know its name?” asked Master Aslein.
Cain nodded.
“Why didn't you say it sooner…” Master Aslein was flipping the book, looking for the name Cain mentioned.
“There’s no mention here about Azure Bone Gauntlet. Are you sure it’s its name? How do you even know its name in the first place?”
“Uhh… someone told me that.”
“Forgive me if I sound arrogant, but I’d like to meet that someone if he knows something I don't know about artifacts,” said Master Aslein. “But that may be true, Arm of Demon doesn't have an affinity towards flame. Also this is the first time I see a blue flame.”
“... So?”
“If it’s not Arm of Demon… and the bracelet form is really old. Hmm…” Master Aslein rubbed his beard.
“Actually, I don't really care about what it is, what I really want to know is, does it consume my bones when it transforms?” Cain already knew what the gauntlet was, but the Book of Gomara did not provide the answer he needed.
“Hrrmmm… if only you could take it off from your hand, I would gladly to buy it. Fine, fine. Come here.” grumbled the old man.
Master Aslein showed him a huge cylinder tube in the next room. Unlike the previous room, only the tube decorated the room. The tube stood tall in the center of the room, about 10 feet tall. The tube also had a door with the size of a full grown man.
“What’s this?” asked Cain.
“This is Barat Metric Tube. An artifact from a long lost civilization. It can measure weight precisely. Even a speck of dust can be measured!”
“Now, get inside.” Master Aslein continued.
“How does this thing work?” asked Cain while entering the tube.
“I’ll compare the weight before and after your bracelet transforms,” said Master Aslein. “Oh yeah, almost forgot, you need to retransform it two or three times. Do you mind?”
“Ugh... alright, no choice then,” Cain sighed. “But are sure it’s gonna work?”
“This tube can measure even an atom. Bone mass? Easy peasy. Besides, more data is better.”
“What? Even an atom?” Cain’s head popped out from the almost closed door.
“Just get in already and leave this to me.” Master Aslein pushed the door, forcing Cain’s head back to the tube.
Then, he activated the tube. The tube was glowing for a minute as the bottom part of the tube was opened. Blueish smoke was blown from it, with ‘pshhh’ sound.
“Done?” asked Cain from inside the tube. It was dark inside the tube before it was activated. Runes were glowing on the inner tube wall when Master Aslein was activating the tube.
“Not yet. Now turn your gauntlet back.”
“Alright… done.”
Master Aslein activated the tube again, this time, greenish smoke was blown.
“Now, transform it again…”
The process was repeated about three times.
“It’s done, you can get out,” Master Aslein opened the tube’s door without looking inside. “Let's go back to my office.” said he.
Cain came out from the tube and followed Master Aslein back to the office room.
When they got back to the office, the view was changed, before, it was only the old man and a room full of artifacts. Now there was a woman. She stood near the sofa while looking at the artifacts on the wall shelves.
“Now, it's better.” said Cain, talked to himself.
Actually, Cain already knew someone came, but he said nothing to Master Aslein as he was inside the tube. And kinda forgot after that.
“Oh, it’s you.” said Master Aslein to the woman.
She turned around with an elegant and sharp movement. She was a beautiful woman. Her hair was black, choppy layered with side swept short bang. She wore a sleeveless long coat with fur on the collar.
“Done with my request?” asked the woman.
“It’s finished. But, would you mind waiting a minute, Miss Fe?” said Master Aslein.
The woman who was called Fe glanced at Cain a moment. “Hmm…” with that, she sat on the sofa. Crossed her legs. Revealing her smooth thighs as she wore a short shorts combined with knee high stockings.
Master Aslein turned to Cain. “Alright, You should get your result the day after tomorrow.”
“Huh? I won't get the result today?”
“No, should be tomorrow I believe. And unfortunately, tomorrow is the Coronation Day for our new King, therefore I won't be here.”
“Are you gonna go to the Palace?” asked Cain.
“Probably, it’s not everyday Haneama Palace is open for everyone. Besides, I wanna see myself our new King, said he’s gonna eradicate the slave system.” said Master Aslein.
Haneama Palace wasn't open for public unless there's a special occasion such as this, urgent matter, or any big day.
“In that case, could you bring the result tomorrow? I will find you in the Palace.” said Cain.
“Sounds good. Alright then, I will take the payment tomorrow.” said Master Aslein.
Cain nodded. “Then, thank you, I'll be on my way.” when Cain turned around and walked to the door, he glanced to the woman a moment then proceeded to exit the office.
He went back straight to Haneama after he bought some snacks.
