Chapter 25: Safety Announcement
“Ahhh that’s a good question,” Angil thought for a second perhaps remembering a past memory, “Most people take a companion, someone to draw from.”
“Is there a reason for this?” Emi wondered.
“Well did you feel the energy you took from those insects in the ground was different?”
“Yeah…” Emi remembered recalling the feeling, “It was cold…and so different from the energy inside my body.”
“Yeah me too!” I also recalled a similar feeling
“This is because you didn’t have the acceptance of those you were taking the energy from,” Angil explained.
“So that’s why people take a companion…” I was just about beginning to put the pieces together.
“Correct, most people take an animal of some sort and increase the trust between the animal and themselves. So that the animal allows you take their energy.”
“Is there an advantage to this way than just taking it from a group of different animals?” I asked. I was wondering if there were different ways to go about drawing energy.
“Yes there is, it is much more efficient and if you build up enough trust the energy transfer grows more and more efficient.”
“Interesting…” I was in deep thought as I processed all this information. I also saw Emi mirroring similar thoughts. After a while I came up with a different way, “How about taking from humans that you trust?” I thought it could be a good way for Emi and I to increase our teamwork.
“No! Don’t do that!” outburst Angil, his eyes seemed to be watery as he said those words, “You don’t want to lose someone you trust a lot.”

“Did that happen to you?” I sensed this was the reason why he was so against it.
“Yes between me and someone I truly cared about.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” Emi said trying to be as delicate as possible.
“No its in the past and I don’t want to revisit it. I would heavily advise against it as magic is a rather fickle beast to play around with.”
“Are there any other warnings or restrictions you want to talk about?” Perhaps this was the best time to do this so that I knew where I could not crossover.
“Don’t do spells before you know you can do them. Don’t EVER try and bring someone back from the dead. EVER. Promise me.” He said the last words rather firmly.
“I promise.”
“Promise.”
“Good.” He said satisfied.
“What do most people take as companions, are certain beings better suited to certain people?” I tried to push it back to a less sensitive and taboo topic.
“You are correct in your assumption Clover. Usually the easiest way is to pick an animal that has a good affinity to your Spirit Animal that you are right now. In this case, Clover you are connected to a some sort of lizard and Emi you are connected to the Unicorn.”
“The unicorn!” she exclaimed, “they exist?”
“Yes but they are a rather rare animal. My suggestion would be to pick an animal that is close to a unicorn which is the horse. So I would suggest you take that as your first companion.”
“Are there any other advantages to taking a living being close to your affinity to you? I wondered, digging for more information.
“As you have activated and know your spirit animal, you will automatically feel it easier to create trust between those animals closely affiliated with your own.”

“So the short answer it is preferable to take animals close to your own spirit animal?”
“Yes.”
“Do you know a place to get a horse or a lizard?” I thought trying to speed up the process.
“Yes but I think it should come naturally, you want a companion who is drawn to you therefore I would advise on just getting any old animal.”
“Ahhhhh…” I retreated back into my mind as Emi started asking questions about her own animal. I kind of cursed my luck a bit as I didn’t really think a lizard was a really cool animal as compared to something like unicorn. Where was my luck stat working in any of this…? I still couldn’t understand what Luck exactly did. It wasn’t as straightforward as I assumed it would be. Its not as if I would suddenly win every coin toss or always win in card games, I pondered. Instead it had turned my life into a rather more eventful time.
Perhaps this was lucky in itself? My previous life was filled with the same monotony of reading more and more books and grasping for information. Here in this world I was actually going out and exploring the world. Experiencing it rather than just putting my nose into a book. I still enjoyed books but the world around me also drew my interest.
But still what was the luck stat in this world? Emi fell down in that forest…though I wonder if my luck influenced other people, however that was asking more and more questions without answering my initial question… I saved Emi from that rock, was that my own skill or luck used? I’m almost certain falling into a cave instead of being thrown off the cliff must have been due to my luck. IF it was due to my luck then I am thankful. I finished the cave via my and Emi’s own strength. But the rewards perhaps were influenced by luck? Angil certainly seemed surprised at the rewards.
I lost a lot of money from losing the horses but if I hadn’t then I wouldn’t have met Foxy. Though I still don’t know much about Foxy. She seems close to Emi which makes me feel jealous inside. Thinking about it, from the words Foxy said she really cares about Emi. I care about Emi but I can’t stop this feeling that Foxy cares Emi in the way that I care about Emi. I think of Emi more than just a friend…perhaps it’s something more than that? Though…thinking of Foxy and Emi together brought out other feelings…damn it going off topic again… Foxy telling me of her problems rather than Emi seems to be because she to wants to shield her from her troubles…unless of course that was all a lie…DAMN IT all these questions and dou-
“CLOVER!” Emi killed my train of thought and I was brought back to the present. I cleared those thoughts off my mind and made a mental note to address this later, “Are you there Clover?” She knocked my head and I replied,
“Yes Emi…I was thinking about something.”
“What?” She cocked her way in such a way that I couldn’t help but feel endeared to her.
“Nothing…it wasn’t important.”

Written in the journals of antiquity, lost in time, a scholar wrote: ‘This horrific cataclysm that we face was brought about by humans…’ However, these events are long gone. A longstanding peace has descended to Orbis. Yet, to spite the efforts of the saviours of yore, a progenitor of this calamity has been invited back by ritual. At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
