《A Mere Fate of Mine》Chapter 9 Good People are Everywhere (1)

“Shhhhhh~”
A deep voice sounded beside his ear. Lucien stopped struggle and stayed quiet.
tak tak tak~
The sound of running passed the door and went far away. However, Lucien couldn’t relax at all. Every bit of his muscle tensed up.
“It’s safe now boy.”
Only then the man let go of him. He quickly turned back and faced the man. The man had blond hair and blue eyes. He was a middle aged man, wearing black priest robe, looking kind.
What surprised him was the children behind him. This place looked like orphanage seeing how many children here. All of them were human.
“W-who are you?” Lucien thought that acting powerless now was the right thing to do. He looked really innocent if one ignored a blood soaked dagger in his shaking hand.
“I am Prason Nainma, you can call me priest Prason.” The man, Prason, said with a smile.
“It’s fine, new brother. This place is safe!” One of the children shouted.
“Yeah, yeah, with priest Prason here, no bad guys can harm us!”
“Don’t worry, new brother! You are safe now!”
Seeing many children cheering him up, Lucien calmed down. He looked straight into Prason’s eyes and said sincerely, “T-thanks.”
“Your welcome,” smiled Prason as he turned his eyes to the dagger. “You must have experience bad things.”
“T-they tried to s-sell me,” Lucien’s voice shook. “I-I slashed his l-legs and tried to run away b-but-”
Tears started streaming down his face. “t-they hurted me, boohoo, it’s hurt”
His body was full of scratches as his whole body felt hurt. Everyone in the room quieted down. All the kid looked at him with a gaze full of pity.
These kids all had bad experience in the past. They kind of ‘understand’ Lucien.
Lucien could see the vigilant eyes of the man relaxed a bit. Although Prason looked kind, Lucien could see the cunningness in his eyes.
“It’s ok now, boy. Don’t cry, ok? Here, drink this. It will make your pain disappear.”
When he saw a small bottle in Prason’s hand, he thought of a potion.
[Minor Potion]
Heal 100 health points
Being sure it’s not a poison, Lucien drank after a bit of hesitation. His health was filled in a few seconds and his injuries healed in a visible rate.
‘So this world also has potions, not only pills!’
His face ‘brightened’ as he thanks the man in ‘gratitude’.
“This is my orphanage,” said the man. “You can stay here as long as you want. I will thank care of you. Everyone here will be you brothers and sisters! Please, make yourself at home.”
Before Lucien could say anything, the man turned and walked to his room. Lucien didn’t forget to make a thankful expression.
“Hey, hey, what’s your name, new brother!”
“L-Lucien” The children swarmed around him and bursted him with numerous questions.

There were 12 children, including him, and they were around his age with the oldest one was 16.
He acted like he was having fun having conversations. However, inwardly, he just didn’t care about them. He would run away from this place if he has a chance.
‘This beginner town is more dangerous than wilderness.’
Not bothering to remember their name, he told them he wanted to rest. Seeing there was one kid sitting by himself in the corner, Lucien sat next to him.
‘This kid is the one interesting here.’ thought Lucien.
The kid’s name was Douche Bag. His parents really knew how to name a kid. However, what’s interesting was that the kid was same as him. Lucien stared at Douche.
[level 0, Will of Survival]
Right, he was also summoned here. He was the only one with title among all the kids. The other kids told him that Douche had just been here 2 days ago and he was very introvert.
“Are you from Earth?” Lucien whispered with a low voice only for the kid in front of him to hear.
As he expect, Douche’s eyes widened as he stared at Lucien in surprised. There was a trace of joy in his eyes.
“Are you from Earth too?” Douche said with a shaky voice.
“Yeah, you can call me Lucien.”
Douche was 13 years old. He was even younger than Lucien. He had dark brown hair and white skin, wearing a middle school uniform.
Both of them were happy seeing someone from the same planet. They talked about everything for a few hours.
From the conversation, Lucien could tell that Douche was a nice boy. He was a bit shy but had a kind personality. He didn’t speak much.
Although Lucien always found kids around his age childish, he was genuinely happy talking to Douche.
Feeling that Douche could be his friend, Lucien turned serious.
“Douchy, from what I heard, a bad organization was looking for us, summoned people. They know we have title and level 0. From my speculation, this organization must be the one who summon us. It also has a bad reputation as well.”
Douche was astonished but he continued to listen attentively.
“I guess something went wrong with magic and they lost us. There should be more people like us around Abyss so they put up a bounty.”
Lucien’s face turned sour at this moment. “One thousand gold coins bounty sounds very big for people here. It’s enough for them for be filled with greed, enough for them to sell me, a child.”
“I believe this fake priest is a bad person too. I can feel it. We need to run away from this place.” Lucien looked determined.
Lucien was now sure that that priest was fake. The kids said he always found good adoptive parents for the most well behaved one every week. Of course, they were being sold. No one right in their mind would want to adopt a kid here, in Abyss.

Douche furrowed his brow. “L-Lucy-”
“Don’t call me Lucy! It sounds like a girl.”
“L-Lucien, a-are you sure about that?”
“Mm, 80 percent”
“F-from what you told me, the outside is really d-dangerous, isn’t it? You will t-take me out of here?”
“Nope, sorry to say this, but I can’t. We have to separate. I don’t even have power to protect myself, so I can’t protect you, Douchy.” Although Lucien wanted to help him, he knew his limit. He would already die thrice if not for his title effect.
This world was too hard. Even a livestock could kill him, no way he had energy to spare helping other people. Just telling him what he knew was his limit.
“O-ok, Lucien, I-I guess I’ll stay here. Y-you see, I’ve already been here a few days and everyone is kind to me.” said Douche unconfidently. However, he understood Lucien so he didn’t hold a grudge.
“Fine, I’m sorry I can’t help you. I wish what I’ve said isn’t true. I know you are smart, Douchy.”
With that, both of them put down the serious topic and continued their old talking about their favorite adult movie actresses from Earth with a more serious face than before.
At night, while everyone was sleeping. Lucien opened his eyes.
‘The kids said that fake priest goes outside once every two days and that’s tomorrow. I’ll sneak out then.’
Lucien checked out notification logs.
‘What!? That guy was level 92? and he actually died by my hand!?’
Unfortunately, there was no more title or rewards for him.
‘Everyone here is much stronger than me. I can only use my tricks to barely had a chance to kill them.’
Lucien thought of the time when he killed Stool. He used empower, heavy blow and wind reinforcement in a single strike where he caught the guy completely off guard. With the title ‘One who Surpasses’, his ability increased by 50%.
The dagger only managed to dig half way through his neck with all his power. One have to note that with his stats and skills, his strength already exceed people from Earth by far.
Although people of this world had a game-like status, this place was not a game after all. A human was still a human. Getting cut in the neck, they would still die.
Although the system didn’t give him extra reward for killing Stool, his killing skills leveled up sharply. All those three skills and dagger mastery rose up by more than 10 levels.
‘Woah! Just from these two day, I get more than a hundred skill levels!’
He now had 106 PP!
Looking at the available path list, he saw a new path, Wind Reinforcement Path 0/100. Which made him hesitated a bit.
‘Luck path seems good too. Also, Surpasser path will be useful as everyone’s league is higher than me in this world. Hmmmmmmm’
Finally, he decided to invest his points in the new path, Wind Reinforcement Path. This skill was really useful to him. Moreover, he knew he would be running a lot from now. This path gave him reward every 10 PP interval.

Feeling happy with his new skills, Lucien beamed.
He put his 2 magic stats into control. Feeling that little more damage won’t help him that much, he started to focus on control.
‘I’ll be able to make use more of my skills with increased control.’
Satisfied with his new status, Lucien then explored his status, wanting to find a way to hide his title, however, it was all for naught. He really didn’t know how to hide it.
Feeling annoyed, he fell asleep. Ironically, this was the best sleep he had ever since coming to this world.

Blightbane
Miscellaneous Notes: - I want to see about making a crude map of Shroud to help readers. - I also want to get back to writing Coalescence updates. Schedule Notes: - None for now, updates when I can. [ Thank you for your patience and support as I improve my writing and storytelling abilities. I'm also using this story to better develop lore that extends far beyond it. ] Thanks to another exceptionally talented artist, Hiroeth, Blightbane now has an official cover! Vera was alone again. “You’re completely unprepared. Never before has sending one of you off made me feel quite so guilty.” Whenever she found herself in doubt, she would weigh her actions against the guiding principles of the one whom she revered. “When you don’t know the rules of the game, start making them up. When you are constrained by unfavorable conditions, inject a little chaos.” It was the supplementary message that concerned Vera the most. It was difficult to follow because it was intentionally vague and mired in subjectivity. “How can I enjoy myself when you look so tormented? Are we in danger?” Vera fell silent. An experiment is taking place on a planetary scale. Across the surface of the planet, a phenomenon referred to as "Blight" is spreading. Festering regions defended by fierce creatures called “blightbeasts” taint the surface, warping the land and proliferating unceasingly. Among the sentient creatures of the planet, it is the Blightbane Guild’s responsibility to stem the tide. They endeavor to cleanse the land in a struggle of attrition, but they are losing ground. A young man named Caim has been uprooted from his former life and transported to The Shrouded Theocracy, an isolationist nation with fanatical policies. He must struggle to survive with only an unfamiliar strain of magic to aid him. There is a secret to this magic. One he knows very little about. He intends to explore just what makes this magic special. On the far border of the theocracy, a mage scientist named Inis discovers a revolutionary new way to infuse strength from defeated blightbeasts. Using herself as a test subject, this process allows her to grasp magical concepts previously thought beyond her reach. Though she tries to document any side effects that arise, something escapes her awareness. She is playing with a dangerous force that will claim her most treasured asset if she isn't careful. Everyone and everything on the planet is a part of the experiment. The experiment is a lie.

Trouble!
In a distant world ruled by Magic, Gods, Demons, Beasts and Man, war has ravaged the land and made its people suffer. The Archonian Council comprised of the leaders of the various races decided that enough was enough and the war had to stop or at the very least, continue elsewhere. In the middle of another aimless debate, Rafflesia, Chief Warlock of the Beast Race proposed this idea: “Why don't we create another world? Let's let the idiots go all out and settle this endless war there?†And because of that unprecedented notion, the Gods, Demons, Beast Race and Man worked together to create the (planet) world Arthunium, a magical world that could withstand the full brunt of the war. A thousand years after the Golden Age War, our story begins… (Warning: This novel offers depictions of: – Gore – Torture – Mature and Suggestive Themes The novel is therefore classified by most standards of morality as something no one should read.
