《Chronicles of Sora: Ruler of Rules》Chapter 5.1: Slimes, Blobs and Humanoids

I look around. Although, we are in an ice dome, its is considerably dim in here. I am not sure how the Abbe did it but it worked.

“SoraChan” Abbe addresses me….I think he doesn’t understand that Chan is not part of my name… “Can you not do something about your body? It is quite disturbing to see… well you know various body parts float around like this…is that a cat floating in your stomach?”

“…” I am not sure how the cat got in there. “Firstly, my name is Sora. If you are addressing me with familiarity please call me Sora-chan. If you are addressing me as a master, the Sora-sama. Sora is the name, everything after that is the suffix.”

The abbe nods as a human hand began floating on the top of my head.

“Secondly, it takes great amount of concentration to maintain a basic humanoid structure. Having nearly been brought to death, it would explain why my form has deteriorated to that of a blob. Questions?”

“Then how soon can you concentrate, we cannot have Maylon fainting again and again.”

“Honestly, my concentration depends on my exhaustion level. I am very tired. I don’t I’ll recover till I get back some HP and Stamina.”

“…”

The one to break the silence next was the Garzala.

“I want to kill him.”

“Oh shut up! For the last hour or so you have only been going on and on and on about killing me! Just give it a rest will you.” I snap back.

The Abbe and Garzala are surprised with my abrupt reaction.

I guess it is not so abrupt; the damned kid did try to stab me to death.

His blood thirst was not going away…

Your recovery pace has been reduced due to the blood thirst of a near by creature!

“Abbe do something about him.”

The Abbe nods and then speaks, “Guftaf, go search for a cave. I am not sure how long can I hold up this barrier.”

The boy did not move.

“You can’t kill him. You must have realized that by now.”

“…”

“Are you disobeying me?” The Abbe asked in a stern voice.

The young boy, Gustaf, hung his head and exited (crawled through) via a small tunnel the Abbe prepared.

My mind is feeling better. The constant throbbing pain of being stabbed and burnt by light have subsided. The ice dome is also helping me retain moisture content.

I can think freely once more. Time to get down to business.

“Abbe, how long can you maintain this dome?”

“At the most an hour more.” He replied while his forehead was covered in sweat.

“So we have time…” I think out loud.

“Are you a mage?”

“No, I am not.”

“But you can use magic?”

“Just the very basic…”

“Ice dome is basic?”

“…”

“I don’t understand, why is it that both you and him are so difficult to control…”

“Your countenance makes it a bit hard to trust you…”

“Appearances can be deceiving. “

“…”

“I am not a mage. However, I have advanced in several types of magic.”

“Then what are you?”

“I retired from being a Guardian long time ago.”

“And you were?”

“A....Templar.”

*Sweet an ex-aged-templar for 1FP*

“Ah that explains a lot…” I say as I begin focusing on humanoid form.

Let me say this it is extremely difficult. Right now the best form I can create resembles as if I have escaped from a six year old child’s crudely drawn crayon book. I have legs and hands…but it’s all disproportionate. It isn’t as easy as you would imagine it to be. I need to imagine my body taking the shape of a human. Even then, it becomes quite difficult. If I detail on aspect too long then another aspect might breakdown and while trying to just get the shape right, I need to focus on all the organs that are floating “in” me and “on” me. I need to nail the positions of all my organs. Being a slime is not easy. Even maintaining a simple blob like form requires a little bit focus. If I don’t focus then natural tendencies such as gravity takeover and I look more like a puddle. Now I don’t really look like a puddle…I look like a pee pool with bones and other organs scattered all over.

Ah…and did I tell you my “internal” organs will rot if I let the are exposed for too long to the air outside…. Summary – it is not easy being a slime.

Moving to the next item on my agenda…Ruler of Rules…

“Abbe, tell me more about this world.”

The Abbe gave a look which said you have no idea how hard this is (maintaining and ice dome).

“Fine, but please do not ask questions of great detail. There will be a time and place for everything.”

I agree. Not best to ask the details from an aged man who is sweating it out.

“As you may have seen there are many races, sub races, variants, hybrids in this world. This is only one aspect of this world. That isn’t the only way this world can be seen. Beyond races, there are adventures like you and residents like me. “

I nod, this was simple to understand. Basic game setting; multiple races.

“The difference between us is as thin as paper however that singular difference makes adventurers much more powerful. ”

Puzzled expression; I am guessing I can level up faster than them or am stronger than them?

“Whenever you level up, you can create a rule.”

“Is there a limit to the number of rules?”

“None…but it costs stat points. The number of stat points will vary according to the rule.”

*Ouch*

One ill thought of rule and you could potentially lose a lot of points.

The Abbe continued. “The Rules themselves come with limitations. However, if you don’t create a rule on your existing level then you can’t make two rules on the level up.”

I nod, makes sense (which is now an awkward motion since I am a slime).

“Conditional rules level up the more you use them and Continuous Rules level up over a period of time.”

More nodding.

“A power is a rule but costs no stat points. I believe you can create one every fifty levels. That is all there is to this world.”

“Just one question. Is there a difference between Rule and Law?”

“A law is an absolute rule, at no point can it be changed or violated. It can also not be removed from existence.”

I want to ask more, but I sense that this is not the time of the place for questions. I smile the Abbe seems to be struggling. “How are you holding up Abbe?” I ask.

“Not too good.”

I cover myself in the curtain robe. “Wrap me in an ice coffin. It will be smaller and easier to maintain.”

The Abbe nods in agreement.

I focus on becoming a sphere. It will be easier for the Abbe to move me around.

I am wrapped in coldness.

I am spending my time thinking about what I just learnt about this game.
