Third Person POV: Abe Freecs
287th Hunter Exam, Days remaining: -1.
Silvertina, Frescaliento Metropolis,
Residential Area, Puerto Dromedario.
11:02 AM,
“It’s been such a long time, granny Abe. Hm? You look a bit younger.”
“Oh my god! Mito, this place is so grand…”
A middle-aged woman exclaimed after entering a lobby. The place was majestic, and the furniture looked luxurious.
“This is completely different from Whale Island. How much did you spend on all of this?” The man at her side asked in shock and excitement. His eyes glued to the ancient statue at the center of the hall.
“Haha, don’t ask me. That child’s resourcefulness has never failed to surprise me during the past three years.” Mito replied with glee and pride as she put their luggage on the side.
“I don’t know who that great grandson of mine saved in his last life, but we should consider this as a spell of good fortune.” A short older woman by Mito’s side added.
“You children shouldn’t overthink it. Make yourselves at home, his friend Zepile is on his way here and will give you the keys to the nearby cottage.”
“Thank you, Mito, granny Abe.” The two people bowed in gratitude and said.
They continued to exchange pleasantries and visit the property for a long time. After they headed back to the mansion:
“By the way, where’s that child, Noko?” The middle-aged woman asked as she scented the delicate fragrance emanating from her teacup.
“Yeah, where’s my baby?” The man echoed in support. He blushed a bit and coughed after the women noticed the unprecedented eagerness in his voice.
“She’s probably sparring with the siblings at this hour,” Mito replied, unfazed after looking at the clock on the wall and replied.

“Fighting?! How could you let my cut-...”
“Berik, calm down.” It was the aged woman who reverberated this time. As she did so, the place shook for a moment. The man’s words were cut in his throat. He sat back down and looked at the elder like he had seen her for the first time.
“Granny Abe…” The woman at his side was startled and bewildered by what just took place.
“Grandma, you lost control again.” Mito frowned and reproached the senior.
Abe coughed to brush the remark aside. That lass never lost any opportunity to show off just because she was a bit more talented.
“Berik, Vera…” The elder sighed and called gently.
“Y-yes.”
“If you two are still going to act as parental figures for that girl in the future, it’s high time you learned about some of her secrets.”
Third Person POV: ??
“Sorry, Master Killua.”
An immature voice replied to the boy’s question. Regret was discernable in the girl’s tone, but she wasn’t courageous enough to stand against the figure hidden in the woods.
As the lad walked away from her, he didn’t fail to notice the subtle action from the person he called mom.
From a young age, he knew he was different from other people. But it was only after that day that he clearly understood how strange and cruel his fate was. At first, he thought it would be all fine. After all, he had managed to live and strive through that inhuman torture every day.
But there was a fundamental difference between the physical pain he endured and the emotional pit in his heart. The latter was bottomless, and after several excursions outside of this ruthless house, he had come to crave those common bonds the mass-developed.
Friendship. A forlorn and taboo term in his world.

It was that very word that left so much to be desired in his life. This unfeeling existence that only consisted of eating, training, and robbing lives. He never asked for this kind of life, but yet...he was born in that hell.
His second older brother was jealous of him for being so talented. But every day, he wished he could exchange all those gifts for some of his sibling’s freedom.
Why did he need to become the heir?
The kid wiped away a tear as he woke up from his dream. “Why do I suddenly remember that episode now?”
He peeked at the object in his hands. “HUNTER ENCYCLOPEDIA.”
These words written so plainly represented his last hope, if not his ultimate caprice. After it was all over, he would never be able to escape from that place or his destiny.
“Taking over the family business, huh?” He snarled in frustration.
“You guys will have all the time in the world to impose your distorted methods and knowledge on me. Let me have this for now…”
“Next stop, Zaban City!”
As the voice in the train called, the boy stood up from his seat and disembarked within the station.

Just a Game
“A great corruption is spreading. The people cry out for a savior. For a hero. For YOU! Come join the fight, as the chosen of World Tree! Receive the blessings of the gods, battle fierce monsters, and become the hero you were meant to be, in Arcanum Online!” It was the cheesiest commercial Ethan had ever heard, but the gameplay was enough to draw him - and thousands of others - to the fantasy world of Lazuros. It’s the sort of place that can really draw you in - a huge open world, a deep character customization system, and a feature that makes time pass slower inside the game, extending your limited playtime! It was a little strange, though. As if it was a bit too realistic for a game of swords and sorcery. The NPC’s seemed almost alive, most quests didn’t reset and monsters respawned slowly. Still, for all it’s quirks, it was a good game! Just a game. And nothing more. …right?
