《Loiterous》Need another week
Advertisement
TL;DR: I need one more week to implement the changes and show the results. Read below for the short explanation.
These two weeks flew by quickly. I didn't expect my research to take this long, but at least it has proven fruitful. To some degree. I haven't been able to do much... not yet.
The problem I encountered almost immediately was style. The narrative has been too crude for the story I have envisioned. Lately, I was writing chapters to keep to the wanky schedule, follow the deadline, instead of showing you guys the story it was supposed to be.
For that I apologize. I was so preoccupied with what to do with the characters' past that I didn't focus on the "present". Recent chapters were unnecessarly prolonged, losing in quality. I've noticed that, but glanced it over, toiling away to write yet another chapter. Your comments made me fully aware.
Anyways, that is fixable. It will definetely make me incorporate some changes, most likely switching some scenes, addding more detail.
To the point now. I have been looking for a new narrative. Something that will let me express myself better, instead of stringing the words together just so they can make do. Reading is about that magic after all, something that makes us visualize the events in fluidity. Too plain and it won't be magical. Too sophisticated and the readers will frown at the strangeness. Finding that tenuous balance is what separates the good writers from the great.
I could rant about how I read for over 10 hours a day to find the answer, but it's not really that important. What matters is that it worked. However, after I read through a 400 000 words behemoth of a book, I haven't had the time to implement any of the changes.

Thus, I'll have to ask for a week more of your patience. I honestly doubt I will be finished by then. There's a lot of chapters to rework, but it has to be done. At least if I want to proceed forward in a steady, comfortable way.
Fear not, I will not get over my head with another rewrite. I DO NOT plan on changing everything. If anything, I plan on adding more detail to the world, so that it doesn't feel so flat. There probably will be some new content mixed in too, chapters of real life or interludes of the past. I feel like there has been way too little focus on that matter.
Sadly, it means more work for me and probably a REREAD for YOU. I'll bring you guys the results, at least a few chapters by the end of the week so you can judge whether the change of narrative is for the better or if I should find another way around all this. All I can say for now is that the new narrative is that of published books. Whether I can use it well, as I said, you'll be the judge of.
I'll try to get a chapter from the beginning and a couple of the latest ones, although do mind that these will be the "test chapters", so they might differ a bit in the long run.
Thank you for all your recent support, you guys are awesome <3.

What happens to a man when he is torn from everything he knows? Ian McClintoc, a detective from D.C., must find the answer to that very question when a routine investigation takes a horrible turn. Lost, battered, and broken Ian must do the impossible: survive and find a way to return home. And Ian is so very far from home. But he is not without hope. When he awakens in a strange world help arrives in the nick of time. Though is a very unexpected form: an elven ranger. Valethalassa Therrae, and her shadow-wolf companion Mal. She guides Ian to the fantastical city of Landorei and to a seer. There Ian's quest begins; retrieve a magical scroll that will send him home. But all is not as it seems. The mysterious Harlequin Court seeks to use Ian for their own ends. Fighting, friendship, magic, monsters, mystery, laughter, tears, revenge, war. Let the adventure begin. I hope you all enjoyed the novel and the adventure it took you on. I have a second one in the works, but progress has been slow on that front considering all that is going on in the world today and the nature of my work. I'll be posting chapters from that one in the coming months (with any luck). If you enjoyed this novel please leave a review as I'm always eager to read a critique of my work to improve my writing. - Best regards in these trying times, M.I. O'Flaherty

Saga of Fallen Kings, Book I: The Revenant Prince
The Philosopher King once conquered the known world, his power seemingly unlimited and his armies inexhaustible. Since that time his might has slowly unravelled, and his once steadfast empire has begun to crack, splinter and devour itself. In the isolated Southern Realms, where even magic has abandoned them, none of that matters. For years it has been filled with warring kingdoms, where as many kings die to the blade as to old age, and constant battles tear apart the land. When one such kingdom invades its old enemy, the King and his heir, Prince Caden, are killed. Unable to accept the loss of his family Prince Arian is broken, and when the Philosopher King stretches out his hand in aid, Arian takes it without a second thought. When Caden wakes from death, he's different. His eyes and soul have changed, and he finds a world filled with friends who no longer trust he's even human. Suddenly thrust onto the throne and indebted to the Philosopher King, Caden has no choice but to keep going - he must finish what his father started, and try to survive the machinations of the figure who now owns his fealty. Meanwhile something beyond death stirs for him, desiring nothing more than to drag him back into its embrace. Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The first reason is that I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the title. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story. Old author's notes: This started as a completely random writing session. There was no purpose or direction, but as I kept typing an entire world began to form in my mind that I knew I had to write about. My plan is to turn this story into a veritable medieval fantasy epic that spans an entire world, follows multiple character and storylines, and takes place over many years. The story has quite a grounded, almost 'realistic' start, but many more fantastical elements will be introduced, expanded upon and become central to the narrative. I have ideas for this story that make me genuinely excited and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy writing it, and join me on what will hopefully become a truly massive fantasy epic. If you do enjoy this story please consider following, rating and leaving a review. I'm also happy to answer any questions or comments you have. Sand, Clouds, and Steel
Thearth. A sand planet with little to offer. Only the great crawler cities provide any form of permanency other than the great desert. Continuously roaming the sands in search of clouds, the only source of water, and quite possibly the next great Vortex. A being/machine/creature or something else entirely that forms a massive floating island and provides the other essential resource necessary for life, Aserite. It is used to power everything and anything. People cannot just take it as they will. They must fight the Vortex's guardians to claim the almost magical resource. This is a dungeon core storm story that I am working on in my free time. Please feel free to leave constructive criticism as I want to grow as an author.

2nd Floor
Matthias is a struggling writer finally able to move into his first solo apartment. He's thrilled to have a place free of roommates and siblings, even though the building is decrepit and is inhabited by an odd assortment of people including an intrusive neighbor, a little girl who wanders freely, and an overweight orange cat named Cheese. As Matthias settles in things begin getting stranger. Something vile is growing in the dark and it's coming from somewhere on the second floor... where Matthias happens to live.Author's note: this is me trying to get back to my roots: a character driven novella with horror elements. The story of people struggling against an inscrutable enemy, as well as the day to day trials of being poor in America. I have no idea how often I'll update or even exactly how this will all go down because y'girl is a panster. So strap in because this is the first draft and you all get to see it being born!Feel free to comment whatever comes to mind, and helpful critiques are always welcome.
