Day 4,552

For the first time since I began my training as a Slayer, I lost against someone.

I guess it is to be expected; Eina is gifted, and she took all my lessons to heart. She is a great listener, and even a better student. She learns extremely fast as well, one trait of a great Slayer. In the wilderness, knowledge is the key to one’s survival.

Our spar began as usual, but I quickly noticed a difference in her attacks. They are more calculated; more precise. And every strike has weight in it. Soon I was on the defensive, and I can barely hold my own against Eina’s attacks. Then with a graceful stroke of her sword, she had disarmed me.

The whole crowd applauded our fight, especially Eina’s victory. It has become a custom for other Slayers to watch our training, and I must say it did Eina some good—she was less prone to mistakes when other people are watching her.

Afterwards, she invited me to dinner. I can’t refuse someone from a noble family, so I accepted despite my unease. I usually don’t oblige to dinner invitations. But I did out of courtesy as her teacher.

I bought a blue-trimmed tunic and a red vest for the occasion. It has cost me quite a fortune, but let it not be said that I, Brion, is a miser. I do know how to make myself presentable

I arrived at the restaurant just in time for her carriage to stop. And as the door opened and she stepped out, I was stunned to see her in a caramel dress. Her golden curls bounced with each step, and her smile was as bright as the sun.

For a moment, I was left speechless at the sight. But I remembered myself and held out one arm like a proper gentleman. She laughed at me, but she wrapped her arms in it. And I led her inside the establishment.

We talked about many things. Our hobbies, our favorite books and dishes. We have a lot in common, especially in the subject of horses. I told her about Aderyn, and her azure eyes sparkled with excitement. It is her dream to ride a dragon one day.

So I promised that once Aderyn has given birth, I will let Eina ride her.

When it was time for us to part ways, I escorted back to her carriage. I told her to continue her training all by herself now, but she insisted that she keep sparring with me. I obliged. Training together with someone is probably better.

Before she left, Eina gave me a kiss on my cheek. And as I write this entry, I can still feel her soft lips on my skin.
