《What LITRPG There is Only Needlework [Hiatus]》Chapter 5

Sui instantly stood up and left the room. Heading straight to the battlefield er, living room. Very deliberately ignoring the notebook and the sewing machine. Sui plonked herself down on the couch and took a deep breath, trying to distance herself from her previous thoughts.
Ok, it’s time for battle. Or I guess it will soon be time for battle? Sui looked outside and noticed the sun was already setting. Standing back up, she turned on all of the lights in the house except those in her grandmother’s room just in case she needed to be able to see properly.
Once that was done, Sui also decided to tidy up a little. Putting a few stray things away so that there would be fewer obstacles or things to be damaged, though luckily for her, Grandma ran a fairly tight ship, and the real danger was what remained in the kitchen.
Sui took a deep breath and tried to clear her mind. Just don’t think about it. You have a battle to participate in. There isn’t anything strange in your bedroom—just some sewing equipment.
Sui felt the rising pain at the mention of sewing equipment but rapidly fought it down. Now isn’t the time to figure that out. Just concentrate on the now. That doesn’t cause any problems, right?
Like right now… I want to hand sew. The pain threatened Sui just a small amount but seemed content. And… um, right now I want to be prepared for the fight? This time there wasn’t so much as a whisper, as if Sui had just been misremembering the pain.
With that thought, Sui tried to let herself relax as she waited for the next wave. It didn’t take long after all her running around, and soon the next wave was announced. Sui stood up and tensed, looking for whatever crazy thing was going to happen this time.
After around ten seconds of scoping out the room, Sui finally spotted something strange. Just behind the corner of the kitchen blocking most of her view, Sui would swear she saw the tail end of a rabbit.
But didn’t we already do rabbits? Why would wave three be even less dangerous, or at least no more so than two? That was when Sui heard a strange sound coming from behind her, like the cocking of a gun.

Rapidly spinning around, Sui was confronted with a strange sight. A rabbit was before her, yes, but now it had a horn on its head, and she had a bad feeling about what was about to happen.
Sui dived for cover just as the mammal made its move. The strange horn lit up with a light towards its end and launched at the spot Sui had just been standing. What the hell is that. That doesn’t even make any sense. Why do they have rocket-propelled horns?
Sui scrambled to her feet and ducked behind the couch, and watched the rabbit that had just shot at her. It glowered somehow… and then, after a few more seconds of staring, another horn generated on top of its head.
Oh, come on. Why do you need to have a reload function as well? Suddenly though, Sui remembered that she’d seen movement in the kitchen. Whipping her head around to try and see if something had been sneaking up on her, she found the kitchen in question devoid of movement.
Of course, the rabbit she’d just looked away from took this as a perfect opportunity. Sui heard that already notable cocking sound and pulled her head down behind the couch arms. As soon as she did so, she felt the air whizz past her hair from what must have been another projectile.
Ok. I need a plan this time. A real one… Sui tried to examine her surroundings while she hid. Looking for something that could give her some inspiration while also keeping an eye out for what she was sure was a second rabbit.
Sui heard the cocking and readying of the rabbits next round but stayed still. Should I trigger it? Staying hidden is all well and good, but perhaps it would be better to keep an eye on it.
Following this logic, Sui popped her head above the couch for just a moment before spotting the rabbit taking aim at her hiding spot and firing the instant, she raised her head. Ducking down, this time Sui heard a thunk instead as the horn was embedded into the armrest.
But that gives me an idea. Quickly standing back up, she watched as the rabbit panicked slightly and tried to resummon its horn. Sui reached over to the couch and grabbed one of the large cushions used as a backing. Sui then placed it in front of herself like a tower shield.

Crouching slightly, Sui waited for the rabbit to cock its launching mechanism once again before ducking behind her ’shield’. Sui heard it launch towards her, and she held the cushion at arm’s length.
Sui felt the horn impact vibrate through her arms. She let her arms fold back slightly and let herself step backward to try and absorb the energy in the horn. She still heard a tearing sound as the horn pierced her makeshift shield but felt no pain.
Sui took this as her queue and charged forward. She heard a panicked squeak but didn’t stop. Just as she was sure she was reaching her target Sui moved her cushion shield out of the way slightly to reveal a scared and stunned rabbit in the middle of reforming its horn.
Sui panicked, seeing that the thing had already regenerated most of its horn. Purely on instinct, her foot slammed down on the rabbit’s back. As she realised what she did, Sui waited for the disgusting gritty impact of crunching bones.
But instead, all she heard was a light pomf, and the rabbit vanished in a cloud of dust. Sui wanted to stare in shock, but before she had the chance, a stabbing pain erupted from her side. Stumbling backward towards the couch, Sui tried to turn her head in the direction of the pain.
She felt something embedded in her side, thoroughly complaining about her sharp twist as it dug deeper into her midsection. Gritting her teeth, Sui tried not to lose her balance and managed to plant her cushion into the ground to correct her fall.
Sui crouched down behind her shield, cowering as her body further protest her sharp movements. She could now clearly feel what had to be a horn that had embedded itself in the side of her back. Reaching down with a shaking hand, she felt the horn now sticking out of her back.
Shit. Um… there was something Grandma always used to say… what was it. Sui tried to think through the pain about what Grandma had said about injuries. Ah… it’s not quite coming to me, but I get the feeling I shouldn’t remove this.
Sui just barely managed to hear the nearly silent click that accompanied the cocking of the rabbit’s horns as they readied themselves for the attack. Sui grit her teeth and held herself crouched behind her shield for protection, hoping for safety.
Sui heard the shot go off and felt the impact on her cushion once again. She tried to let her body go with the impact to reduce it, but this only further inflamed the one in her side, causing yet more pain.
Sui could now feel the trickle of blood that had to be coming from her wound. Opening the eyes, she didn’t know she’d closed. Sui looked up and paled. Right in front of her eyes was the sharp tip of a horn that had nearly pierced its way through her defence.
Oh no. And just to make things worse, she heard the rabbit ready its next attack. When she heard it launched, Sui left the cushion where it was and tried to slide to the side. Her side was screaming in pain from its extra passenger, but she ignored it. Sui watched in horror as her thoughts were confirmed.
The most recent attack pierced straight through what remained of the couch cushion and embedded itself in the ground where Sui had been standing. Locking her eyes with the rabbit, Sui was horrified to see that it was staring back and rapidly reforming its own horn.
In her, haste Sui had rolled away from the couch. Now with her cushion in shreds and a few leaps from the couch. Sui reached down to the horn at her side and pulled.
Sui let out a grunt of pain as she tore out another chunk of flesh in the removal. I can only hope this counts as a minor injury. Pulling her arm back, Sui launched the horn towards her foe and felt herself falling forward at the same time.
Luckily for her, the horn struck true. It clipped the side of the beast and flung it spun it around. As the rabbit completed its third rotation, it started to disappear in a puff of smoke.
