Rebirth Of The Demon
Chapter Fifteen [ 15 ]
Time For Some Discipline
‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗
The class started as soon as the teacher walked into the room, except for the abnormal silence that his students exhibited which was rarely seen, he did not suspect anything wrong as the fight already ended before he entered the fray.
’It seems like my daily lecture finally worked, I am glad that they changed for the better’ The elderly lecturer dressed in a clean suit nodded his head profusely with satisfaction as he observed each and every student present.
Putting on his rounded spectacles, the man then picked up a chalk which signalled the start of lessons. Li Feng curled his lips as he had no interest in the lesson, although his body was here physically, his soul and consciousness has already drifted elsewhere.
Li Feng’s class was 3-1, although it was the first out of the rest of the third years, it was by no means superior as the numbers don’t mean anything. His position in the class was considered one of the worst as he had long disregarded his studies and preferred to work instead.
Sharing the last ten places with him was the Zhou Cousins and Qing Yun Feng who had demonstrated his prowess earlier, never would anyone have thought an oddball like him to have hidden his skills so deeply for these past years.
Wherever the Zhou Cousins are, Qing Yun Feng is bound to appear and it was because of his weak appearance and quiet personality that caused everyone to think of him as a mere lackey with no merits to speak of.
Zhou Cousins, two of the most feared individuals throughout Renyi High for their delinquency and peculiar mannerisms. Rather than wasting their time studying, they would rather pick fights with others as they do not like the concept of being chained down by rules.
Contrary to their constant bickering, the relationship that they have with each other are closer than that of blood brothers. Loyalty and righteousness are what they stand by which is why they aren’t hated as much as the other delinquents.
Da Wei, an elite that fed off a silver spoon since birth plays the goody two shoe a little too perfectly that he has managed to fool almost everyone in the school with his “ Prince Charming ” image. Always emerges within the top ten in exams, possesses great social skills and in additional to what Li Feng had managed to witness today, a skilled boxer as well.
Other than being at loggerheads with the Zhou Cousins, he rarely makes enemies out of anyone but tends to have a habit of expressing contempt towards those that are of lower birth but is capable of disguising it with a feigned smile.
’That seems about all that I know of.. Wha? Is someone calling me?’ As Li Feng was deeply in thought, a soft tap was all it took to break him from his train of thoughts, pulling him back to reality as he looked around in confusion.
Looking towards his right, Li Feng notices that he had been awoken by his classmate who happened to join desks with him “Do you need something?” Li Feng whispered softly as he leaned forward only to be responded with a sharp glare.
Just as he was about to speak up, Li Feng ears picked up on something. Without any tinge of hesitation, he raised a hand to grab whatever that was heading towards his direction and surely, a chalk can be seen held firmly in place with his firm grip.

“Did you have a nice sleep?” A masculine voice rang out, instantly drawing Li Feng’s attention towards the front of the classroom. Instead of the elderly lecturer that greeted everyone earlier, an authoritative middle aged man stood in his place, arms crossed while his feet repeatedly tapped against the raised platform.
His mind churned during this momentary silence, he had almost grasped the situation that he’s in now. Daydreaming for a whole period, the previous lecturer had already left and it was probably this masculine teacher that noticed his anomaly.
’Damn, to think that a period had passed by so quickly during my daze, maybe I am too talented..’ Thinking narcissistically, he then spoke out.
“How insulting! I didn’t sleep at all Mr Shen!” Li Feng shamelessly denied the accusations thrown at him, although he was in the wrong, the teacher wasn’t really a hundred percent right as he wasn’t sleeping but daydreaming.
“Oh? You are telling me that you didn’t sleep at all? Are you sure?” Mr Shen raised a brow in question, his glare never breaking off from Li Feng’s so as to pressure him into telling the truth but was surprised to find Li Feng staring right back without backing down.
’Did I mistake h- Nope, why am I questioning myself when I clearly saw that his eyes were shut during half the period!’ The teacher argued with himself mentally.
“Of course I am sure~” Li Feng raised his chin arrogantly in defiance but all he did was manage to look cute in the eyes of the females.
“Then why don’t you come up here to the front and answer the question on the board, enlighten your classmates with what you have learnt from today’s lesson..” The teacher sneered as he thought of a good way to make things difficult for his defiant student.
“Eh?..” Li Feng uttered under his breath as he smiled wryly but Mr Shen took this as an opportunity to punish him for challenging his authority and continued “I bet you don’t know the answer to that question right? Now get out of the class and stand outside until the period is over!” Mr Shen pointed to the exit and hollered, his tone growing louder by the minute as he thought he had managed to catch the tail of the sly Li Feng.
’Idiot, you’re just making a fool out of yourself if you try to deny keke..’ Mr Shen sneered coldly as the handsome juvenile made his way over to the front.
Just as everyone had expected Li Feng to walk towards the exit, he acted in the exact opposite instead, snatching over the chalk that rested between Mr Shen’s fingers.
“Eh?” Now, it was everyone’s turn to be surprised by his actions. Li Feng paid no heed and scratched the back of his head while he approached the board, raising his hand, he then started to take action.
Sfx Click! Click! Clack! Clack!
Repeated clicking and clacking noises rang out every single time the chalk came into contact with the rough widened surface of the chalkboard. The sounds that everyone here was familiarised to throughout the many years of attending school but something seemed odd about it.
Li Feng’s movements connected extremely well, unhindered and gentle like a flowing creak yet bold and domineering like a geyser surging up to the high heavens. If he wasn’t clad in a uniform, they would definitely have mistaken this as an art performance.
Like a mischievous fairy, the chalk seemed to be dancing within Li Feng’s palm, moving to his every wish and command. Under Li Feng’s touch, the rhythmic clicking and clacking gradually turned into a soothing melody, like the voice of mother-nature itself.

Everyone within the room unconsciously eased up as the seconds flowed by the ticking of time, it seemed as though they had all forgotten about everything else other than appreciating what they are witnessing this current moment.
Sfx Screech!
Sadly, there is always an end to every beginning and that loud screech was exactly what brought it to an abrupt end. Everyone snapped out of their daze but noticed that Li Feng was nowhere to be found.
Before anyone could even react, Li Feng had already returned to his seat, nonchalantly slumping over the desk with a carefree expression.
“What happened…” A student spoke aloud the thoughts of everyone that had underwent that breath-taking experience but no one knew the answer to that.
Looking at his relaxed manner made Mr Shen a little annoyed, he like everyone else in the room was simply appreciating the artistic looking words that Li Feng had written onto the board and just with that alone made him a little embarrassed.
’Tch, over confident brat, there is definitely a mistake in there somewhere!’ Looking at Li Feng’s expression made him a little uneasy hence he tried to make himself feel better.
Previously on the board, was a series of questions that required translation from the Chinese to English language and some requiring the completion of the latter half of the blanked out space.
“Hmph!” Letting out a cold snort, Mr Shen then put on his spectacles and started to seriously look through each and every detail like a detective at a crime scene bent on exposing the culprit.
Five minutes.. Ten minutes..
As time passed, Mr Shen started to break out in a cold sweat. Pulling out a handkerchief, he wiped himself down and shifted his eyes back to the words. As he was looking for mistakes, he couldn’t but to appreciate the beautiful words.
’I wonder if he had experience in the traditional Chinese caligraphy’ Being a calligraphy enthusiast, he had actively took up lessons but was still a beginner at it. At one point, he had heard a couple of rumours about masters that exceled in that department.
One of which is that the pieces of work that had gone through the magical touches of masters excelling in their own set of skills to have the ability of allowing the onlookers to see the world that they have created.
Be it musicians, painters, calligraphers or etcetera, as long as they have reached a certain level of mastery over their particular set of skills would be able to bring their work to life.
When he had first heard of these rumours, Mr Shen simply wrote them off as people making stuff up as these amazing people could only be found in fictional works but it seems like that is not the case at all.
Recalling how he had felt during that moment reminded Mr Shen of these rumours that he had thought to be highly exaggerated.
In the first place, Mr Shen only planned to have Li Feng complete the first question just to embarrass him but little did he know that Li Feng would exceed his expectations by going beyond that.
The twenty questions which took him ten minutes to come up with after racking his brains turned out to be solved in a short span of only three minutes, even if there errors, it is still very commendable.
Since the beginning of the inspection, his face had been changing colours constantly like a chameleon adapting to its environment. Right now, his face had completely paled into a ghostly white that made him seem like a malnourished beggar.
Heaving out a heavy sigh, Mr Shen then declared ”Classmate Li Feng had gotten all of the questions above correct, without a single mistake..” when he announced that fact, his tone was filled with helplessness.
“…” A roomful of jaws dropped for the second time today, the first for Qing Yun Feng and the second for Li Feng.
“Well, I could only get all of those correct because of Mr Shen’s good teachings!” Li Feng said humbly. When he had blurted out this sentence, his classmates started to look at him in a different light.
Li Feng was pretty much finding an excuse for Mr Shen, giving him a little credit so as to make the middle aged man less embarrassed as he was still a respected teacher.
Sfx Riiiiing~ Riiiing~
The bell rang, signalling the end of the period. Taking a glance of Li Feng’s figure, Mr Shen gritted his teeth and exited the classroom.
Although Li Feng wasn’t paying any attention to his surroundings, Qing Yun Feng sure took notice of Mr Shen’s hate-filled glare.

Truth to be told, Li Feng didn’t have any social skills whatsoever and pairing that up with the ostracism, lowered his chances of befriending anyone much more except for a select few.
Even the person sitting next to him, albeit being assigned as desk buddies, Li Feng barely had any interactions with her for as long as he could remember.
Now that he has the chance, Li Feng would make full use of this life to make up for the regrets that he had before the “ Death ” of his. One of which being friends as he died a really pathetic death, even being reminded of it makes him ashamed.
Thinking that, Li Feng turned around and the side profile of hers entered his sights.
A head of thick midnight black hair that glistened under the sunlight the peered through the window, tied up into a single braid that settled on her left shoulder and onto her chest.
Behind the frameless rectangular spectacles that rested on her small nose were her beautiful hazel-nut coloured irises that sparkled with a myriad of emotions which frankly, attracted Li Feng.
A blazer tightly bounded over her thin body, the dark shade of grey formed a large contrast to the white uniform she wore underneath. Her exposed skin took on a sickly glow, without the radiance that belongs to a youthful teenager.
“W-what..” She voiced out in a mellow voice that was interlaced with an icy chill, her beautiful eyes narrowed slightly under the blatant gaze of Li Feng.
“Ah! Just wanted to thank you for waking me up earlier!” Never minding the coldness behind her voice, Li Feng smiled brightly like a boy next door, revealing two rows of pearly white teeth to the world.
“…Ok…” Her body jerked slightly before responding but as she was about to return to her studies, Li Feng spoke again “This is quite embarrassing but may I know what your name is?”
“…Wang Han Shuang..” She replied after a momentary silence, not feeling any offense and it wasn’t weird for Li Feng to not know her name. After that, she shifted her gaze back to the books on the table as if Li Feng was invisible.
Li Feng could see that she did not want to continue the conversation anymore and hence stopped bothering her. Wang Han Shuang does not seem as unapproachable as she seemed on the outside, perhaps underneath that cold shell hides another side of hers, who knows, only time will tell.
▪••● ●●● ●● ● ●● ●●● ●••▪
After the tiring lessons, it is finally time for lunch break. Li Feng unlike the other students, brings his own food to school very much like the Japanese bento. Atop his wooden desk, are two metal containers placed side by side.
Just as Li Feng was pulling out the utensils, a faint blast of pleasant fragrance wafted towards his direction and so he looked up to see a smiling female student sitting across his desk.
“Feng’ Er, you’re here!” Li Feng smiled as he handed a lunchbox over to her side then proceeding to provide the utensils that was wrapped in a napkin.
Unlike how she acted previously before Li Feng, the current Ouyang Feng Ling appeared cold and stern, resembling an ice goddess that so much as a look would be counted as desecration.
Her hair reminded him of the autumn season as it cascaded down her alongside her flawless face which seemed to have been sculpted by the gods themselves.
Dressed similarly to most female students, her buttoned blazer looked like it is going to burst apart at any moment because of her heaving chest. Beneath it is the standard white collared uniform with a red tie slipped below her blazer. This getup alone gives people an impression that she is a model student but that fact is also true as she was good at everything she does.
Looking closer, Li Feng noticed a small Hello Kitty badge by the edge of her collar which brought a smile to his face as that was the birthday gift he had gotten for her last year.
’Feng’ Er’s birthday is arriving soon, what present should I get for her..’ Li Feng made a mental note within his mind as he was reminded of the upcoming birthday.
“Feng Gege, are you alright?” Ouyang Feng Ling seeing Li Feng going into a daze stiffened before voicing out her concern while her cold eyes flashed with a tinge of worry.
“Haha, I’m fine, let’s eat!” Li Feng chuckled and assured her before digging into his meal like a famished beast, looking at his gluttonous state, Ouyang Feng Ling then felt a weight falling off her heart and also started digging in.
Ever since that ambiguous incident that occurred between these two teenagers, they haven’t really spoken to each other and nothing seemed to have changed on the surface. However, both of them knows that deep within the depths of their hearts, something is starting to change.
Knowing that, there is no need to voice out what they think is happening as its better to leave it to the hands of fate, things like relationships can’t be rushed or everything will all be for naught which explains why they are just enjoying each other’s company for the moment.
Da Wei who sat a couple of tables away saw this scene and scowled, looking at the pair conversing blissfully made his stomach churn with anger.
’Bullshit! Why are they together when they are heavens apart! It should be me that is sitting there, not that waste of a life!’ He cursed with indignant but walking over now would give a bad impression of him before Ouyang Feng Ling.
Sfx Bamph!
At this time, the creaking door was slammed open once more. Everyone looked towards that direction except for the pair that was blissfully eating away like a married couple and Da Wei who was filled with unjust.
Sfx Thud! Thud! Thud! Pow!
No matter what one does, trouble will always seem to find them and this is just the case. A pale hand slammed itself onto Li Feng’s desk where they were having their lunch causing the contents laying atop to tremble.
“Yo yo, look who’s here. It’s the beauty and the beast! Or should I say, W-A-S-T-E? Kaka!” A wretched cackle rang in the ears of Li Feng who was reining in himself from throwing the bitch out the window.
Placing down her chopsticks, Ouyang Feng Ling wiped down her oddly sensual oiled lips with a napkin and looked calmly at the woman who had intruded on her and Feng Gege’s date.
“Don’t stare at me like that Classmate Ouyang, I am just stating the truth kaka!” The female student cackled out loud, seemingly unafraid of Ouyang Feng Ling’s dangerous glare.
Li Feng also turned to look at the unwelcomed visitor, a slender female that wasn’t bad looking at all but the heavy make-up and the strong perfume ruined everything she had going for her.
By Li Feng’s seat, you could almost see her undergarments but he was not one that would do something that shameless… Well.. At least not before Ouyang Feng Ling but that is not the problem here!
Even if he doesn’t, that does not mean the same for the other students as some had already started darting their eyes back and forth the pair of revealing legs with drool dripping onto the ground.
“Oy waste, go get me a juice box, I’ll pay you back later…” At this time, one of her followers which was a huge masculine guy spoke up with an irrefutable tone. Who would believe his words, just his face alone gives off a vibe that screams out “ I am a liar! ”.
Standing around a hundred and eighty centimetres tall, he tend to look like one that would play for the basketball club not only due to his height but also his muscles that bulged intimidatingly under the uniform that barely fit him.
Li Feng didn’t bother to reply and just sat there staring back at his eyes that brimmed with maliciousness. Unable to withstand this blatant bully-like behaviour happening right before their eyes, the Zhou Cousins made their way over here with Qing Feng Yun in tow.
Crowding by Li Feng’s desk, Zhou Jin Xing the gorilla of the two stepped out just in case a fight goes down “What do you think you are doing bullying my classmate!”
“This has nothing to do with you so you’d better scram you fucking gorilla!” The man who ordered Li Feng to get him a juice box flared up in anger, he of course, knew of the notoriety the Zhou Cousins had but isn’t afraid in the slightest.
“Miao Jin Gang you –“ Before the gorilla-like student could finish his sentence after calling out the name of the bully, a voice rang out with clarity. “Looks like it’s time for some discipline. Don’t be barking at your daddy ( Lao Zi ) like that or I’ll beat your asses.”
Li Feng smiled brightly towards the faces that looked towards his direction with various expressions after his bold declaration.
’It’s time for the eastern demon to show his prowess’ With that in mind, he turned to look at the bully whose face had already flushed beet red from anger.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.

Kichiro's Rampage
Meet Kichiro, the son of a samurai. A social outcast, he leaves his home with nothing but a musket and a sword, determined to carve himself a niche in a chaotic world of dragons and leviathans. This fiction incorporates LitRPG elements, but it's not set in a VR. It's set in a fantastical world based loosely on East Asia in the 16th and 17th Century, when the Ming Dynasty was on its last legs, with the addition of magic and monsters. I totally stole the stat tables from Exterminatus, the author of Everybody Loves Large Chests, so let me credit him for that. I'm new to writing so please don't hesitate to criticise, and reviews would be greatly appreciated.
