Chapter 5-Monster Horde
He had grabbed six goblin skewers and put them into his inventory for lunch when the time came.
As he exited the great city of Ervos, he had noticed that spark and life form identification had gone up by one. And strangely arcane restoration had also gone up. He assumed it was because of his bloodline. It was a natural healing of sorts. Maybe because it was cleaning up the tar in his lungs. Morpheus chuckled then he realised that it was true and thanked Loki for curing his shortened life span.
He pulled up his whole status.

The young chimera set off into the trees, he wanted to level up his healing ability without levelling up to level twenty five.
He found a few young shadow wolfs but decided that he did not want to kill them to level up. In the end he had found one that was by itself. Before he even looked at the wolf he checked his surroundings.
(Shadow Wolf Infant, Level 24)
The shadow wolf was pretty much what you thought it would look like. A black wolf with white eyes and nasty teeth.
‘So they can get pretty high level I’m guessing’ Morpheus thought. He took off the armour on his left hand and pulled his dagger out in the right. As he shot down from the tree the wolf reacted quickly, taking the bait. The shadow wolf latched onto his arm and began to tug, blood flew everywhere. He saw notifications beginning to pile up. Bearing the pain he kept focusing on healing his arm. This lasted for two minutes as the wolf got bored from getting his teeth removed when he tried to bite into this human. Instead he went straight in for the kill, by lunging at Morpheus’s neck. He managed to dodge to the side swiftly as he slammed ‘Dagger of Black’ into the wolf’s head, killing it instantly.

Morpheus then cut his own wrist to heal himself, the cut healed completely in one second. He then cut a wider and deeper one, wincing as he did. In just a few seconds he saw the red lines from his skin stitch it back together instantly.
He did this a few times when.

‘Congratulations’ you have learned the General Passive Skill Mana Sight Level (1). The more you level this skill the more efficient. With this skill you can detect and see mana within the range of your eyesight.
Morpheus awed at his new skill. Detecting mana would be important in the future against stronger enemies. He crawled up a tree to begin cutting and examining his wounds. An hour of pain later.

Morpheus contemplated all of his new skills. They seemed to go down from the worst to the best. He disregarded the two first and boring ones and focused on the last two.
‘The elven one sounds good and might open up classes that I could get knowledge on. My Spartan blood gave me a good class but I'll know nothing about the future classes.’
So Morpheus decided that it was best to wait, to see if he could maybe get another classes available to him. He kept on killing more wolves with his bow to see if he could get another class. He went on to kill another twenty wolves bringing his level up past the thirties.

Morpheus decided that he had enough of hunting, it was well past mid-day and he decided to head back while chomping on some meat sticks.
He passed through the gate and headed back to the guild to get his new badge and sell the shadow wolves.
“Well fuck me, you level up quick.” Adam said as Morpheus walked in. Morpheus smiled and dumped all the shadow wolves on the table almost piling them up to the ceiling.
(Butcher, Dissector of Monsters, Level ??)
“Where’s Boros.” Morpheus said,
“Ha, the young lad was exhausted after completing your order.” He chuckled
“Well anyway for this...ten silvers let’s say.” He said.
“You wouldn’t be lying to me would you?” Morphues joked.
“No no, there’s been a bunch of them fucking like rabbits in the forest north of the gate and their price has gone down due to the abundance of the fuckers.”
“Well that does make sense, they’re all I could find. No hares at all.” Morpheus said.
“Interesting, we had a monster horde come last week, it was weak. It was probably the alpha of the group testing our defenses. They get more sentient as they grow older and stronger you see.” “Unfourtunately not old enough to where they still want to eat us.” Adam chuckled nervously. “Anyway expect one in the next month or two.”
So Morpheus received his silver and went over to the counter to receive his new blue badge. Feeling he should celebrate he walked over to the adventure’s bar. He ordered fish from the docks and baked potatoes.
He felt that ‘Blood of Sparta’ was a good choice, not the best. He would make his mind up soon. He was about to finish his second ale when a guard tripped over in the entrance trying to shout as he fell over. Someone helped the poor guy up and he shouted.
“MONSTER HORDE NORTH GATE!”
Almost instantly the whole room erupted into movement, some people panicked and others were over the moon. A giant lion kin man kicked a door open from the second-floor balcony.
“LISTEN UP. RED AND ABOVE WILL FOLLOW ME TO THE GATE ENTRANCE. ALL BLUE AND BELOW FOLLOW ELLANA UP TO THE WALL!”

Morpheus began to panic unsure whether it was the giant man bellowing from barking orders or the incoming monster horde.
He heard Ellana shouting, gathering all the scared looking youngsters together. He grouped up with them as they began running for the wall.
He caught up to Ellana and said “Who was that massive guy.”
“Guild leader Lance big fuck off fella ain’t he.” She said in between breaths.
They had arrived at the north gate and then all ran up the first defensive wall. The guard in command on the wall shouted.
“All accept, keep an eye on each other!” The guard shouted
You have been invited to join the Grand-Party by (Guard Officer, Level ??) Do you Accept Y/N
Morphues mentally accepted and he was positioned next to the wooden guard tower on the wall. Fourth closest to the tower. He could see around fifty other people’s health in the top left corner of his vision.
Over the horizon he saw over a thousand monsters all over level fifty. The young chimera saw a plethora of shadow wolves, some even being ridden by goblins. At the center of the small army he saw the obvious leader.
“Level one-nine-three boss.” a guard on the watchtower shouted below to all of them.
(Orc Alpha, Level ??)
The orc was huge, it had a green and grey coloured skin and shar tusks coming from its mouth. At least seven and a half feet tall, with bulging muscles. That made Morphues shiver but then he looked down towards his groin and saw the biggest dick he had ever seen. The third leg just swung about in all its glory. That made him more terrified.
“Why doesn’t he cover up that monstrosity.” Morphues asked a young elf guard next to him.
“They don’t wear clothes or armour, they believe it shows that their body can’t take a hit.” The elf guard said.
Morphues was excited, his first battle. He understood that he could do nothing but watch. The gate opened, followed by the massive lion-kin man and Davos shortly after. Roughly five hundred men piled out and stood out onto the field that would become a battlefield. The young chimera saw people activating buffs, their bodies glowing all sorts of different colours. Mages on the field and on the wall began to charge up skills and archers drew their bows.
Morphues followed, taking aim at the big horde of orcs in the center.
The alpha orc roared and the charge began. The sound of thousands of footsteps, and magic spells being casted deafened his ears as he let go of his arrow. The front lines of the monster horde had just collided with the defenders of Ervos. Then he saw a man get ripped in half by a giant shadow wolf.
Morpheus then realised this wasn’t a game, it was real life and people died. He felt awful about what was happening, the truth about battles like these was that they were gory and traumatic. It always sounded so amazing when Morphues saw it all on TV. But now seeing it in person he felt a sunken feeling in his stomach like he wanted to do something but he still couldn’t. He saw adventures get torn to pieces and guards being ripped to shreds by the wolves.
Morphues kept firing arrows he was given by the guards. He could see his notifications piling up in the bottom left. And so Morpheus kept firing concentrating on the main orc horde. The lion-kin was making his way through the horde completely dismembering every monster with one hit of his massive sword.
The lion-kin kept pushing his way through the amass of adult shadow wolves and orcs. Until he reaches the alpha. The alpha got off his giant wolf and met him in battle. The orc pulled his sword from its sheath and met the lion-kins sword.
The massive wolf kept firing off big balls of shadow magic from its mouth hitting the lion-kin and his allies next to him. These big balls of shadow magic caused strange destructive damage to all who got hit by them.
The giant wolf reared back and seemed to be charging up a final shot at the lion-kin who was slowly dwindling down the alpha. The alpha then released its charge shot. Suddenly a main in silver and blue armour raised his giant shield in from the charge shot. A shockwave followed and the giant ball of shadow magic was deflected.
The deflected ball was heading directly for the watch tower. Morphues couldn’t believe his eyes as the wooded watch tower was crippled by the massive explosive attack. Many people attempted to put up shields to block the attack but the shadow magic devoured them all.
He could see people jumping from the tower escaping the collapsing tower. He saw black ‘X’ marks appearing on different people from the grand party.
The watchtower began to break its lower foundations from the new weight. And was slowly creaking towards the people on the wall next to him.
Without hesitating Morpheus rushed over to the wood tower spreading his hands and pushin with all his might. Attempting to hold it as long as possible for the people underneath to run away from the falling tower. A young girl stared at him, but crawed away from the falling tower. He kept it there for a few seconds as people began to rush out from underneath it. He knew he couldn’t save himself at this point but he might as well try. Morphues knew that as soon as he stopped pushing the tower would collapse on him. But he felt glad he saved as many people as he could. So instead of submitting to his death he fought back. He pushed back harder, his muscles destroying and repairing themselves. He could feel the tendons snap and reattach themselves.
“AHHHHHH” Morpheus shouted, putting even more pressure on the falling tower. His wrists began to glow a golden colour through his leather armour. The golden colour seemed to burn his wrist. Morpheus could take it no longer and he collapsed, the wooded watched tower followed.

Reyna was nervous for the battle. She had heard tales from her father of how ferocious monster hordes could be.
She stood along the wall with her fellow adventures awaiting for the battle to come. Reyna only knew a basic long range spell called ‘Fire Bolt’ which her mother taught her. She had no use for her giant battle axe her father had gifted her. She reluctantly strapped it onto her back as she charged up her spell to aim at the monster wave approaching.
The battle raged on and Reyna knew that with the Guild Leader Lance on the battlefield it would soon be over. The giant man was famous for killing beasts almost double his level. This would be seen as a walk in the park.
The battle was almost over when the giant wolf fired a huge ball of shadow magic at Lance which was then deflected towards the watch tower next to her.
The watch tower began to fall and Reyna fell to her knees because of the explosion. She tried to stand up but the dizziness made her fall down again. Suddenly a young eleven man rushed over to the side of the tower and pushed with all his might against it, holting the falling tower. She looked at him for a moment then crawled away.
As she crawled away and got to her feet she saw bright golden colours coming from his wrists before the tower fell on him.

8 194Infested
One billion people from one hundred thousand universes have been dropped onto a singular planet five times larger than Earth. In the corner of their eye were three numbers: 1,000,000,000. 15. 10. Nobody could figure out what it meant until fifteen years after the initial transportation, as out of the blue, a message repeated itself in their minds for twenty-four hours. “Only ten can return. The rest will die. There is no time limit,” Following the global message, genocides ran rampant, with established friendships broken, families ripped apart, blood alliances betrayed, and leaders felled in seconds. How? [The Evgnomon] The Beholden; hidden throughout the realm were artefacts: weapons, information, tools from beings and societies of a higher plane. It was up to the humans to scour the land and take them by hook or by crook if they ever wished to go back. Whisked into this world as a mere babe, I suppose it was lucky I didn’t die in the chaos. But as I stare into the rotten, tattered pages of the accursed book laid upon the pedestal in front of me; and the unnerving gaze of our professor trained onto the back of my head silently pressuring me to become the avatar of grotesques unspeakable and undecipherable to the human mind. O, how I wish I did...
8 87Obstinate Han
A power progression fantasy with a main character who trains constantly but who lacks purpose, direction, and motivation. The world he lives in, however, is not a peaceful one. As obstinate as Han can be, with all of humanity edging slowly towards annihilation, will he truly be able to avoid becoming entangled in the affairs of the deities fighting over his new universe? This story is a slow burn rather than a fast paced action/adventure, and is centered around the perspective of a main character who struggles with depression, apathy, anhedonia, and asociality. This world was doomed well before he arrived, and he knows it. Rather than following the traditional hero model, he just wants to train for its own sake, and to scrape out occasional moments of happiness in a ruined and dying world.
