《The Voyager》Season 1: The Starcraft Commander---Chapter 16: Confrontation

Nyon watched as the terran left. He looked down on the recorder that held the instructions that, according to the terran Jean, should bring him power. He played with the idea of ignoring the deal and continue being an executor, but then he gave up. Even if Jean didn’t come for him for the betrayal, he couldn’t stand being enslaved by Ma’lash. Unlike those petty slayers, Nyon had the ambitions of becoming the ultimate commander of the Death Fleet. He hesitantly opened the recorder.
The figure of the terran female appeared. She was no longer in the battle gear he saw her in but rather in a blue uniform. Her blonde hair was tied into a braid. The only thing that was the same was her cold tone.
“Executor Nyon. I can see that you have decided to join me.” The figure spoke as if it was a live feed.
Nyon was taken back. “Is this a transmitter?” He asked.
“I am not Jean Turner. I am an AI coded to think and act like Jean Turner.” The figure explained. “You can call me Assistant. My mission is to aid you to take the place of Highlord at the top of the chain of ascension.”
“Well, Assistant,” Nyon said. “How do you suggest me get off this rock?”
“Send a message to Highlord Ma’lash and tell him you defended the planet from terran thieves and protected all the terrazine. Jean left the terrazine tanks behind for that reason. This should be enough to redeem the loss on Xil. You have lost all your army, which means you can no longer stay on this planet. You fought for Ma’lash and to a degree won, which means you are the victor and the Highlord can’t punish you. As someone relatively high on the chain of ascension you can raise an army in a short period of time.” Assistant said systematically.

Nyon frowned. “You seem to know a lot about our society.” Assistant didn’t move, and Nyon knew he couldn’t get an answer out of the AI. “Jean stabbed herself before leaving. Why?” He made an attempt to find out more about the girl he might fight for.
“I am not authorized to answer that question. Now, I suggest you get to business.” The Assistant ordered, and Nyon obeyed.
Meanwhile, Jean walked into the Hyperion bridge with all the fury in the world. She was pale, and her wound, despite being healed, stained her blue armor with red blood. Raynor and Tosh turned as she walked in, slightly surprised.
“What the hell? Jean what happened?” Raynor asked after seeing the wound.
Jean stared at Tosh. “I am afraid you have asked the wrong person commander. I think Mr.Tosh here is more capable than me to explain what happened.”
“What are you talking about little girl?” Tosh had a guess on what happened. The specteur failed his mission and Jean survived and returned to confront him. Still, she had no solid evidence. He could claim the man went rogue. The communication between him and the specteur was encrypted. She had no solid evidence.
Jean pointed at Tosh. “This man just sent one of his soldiers after me. A specteur tried to kill me.” She accused, and all the raiders in the room looked at Tosh. Several men readied their weapons in case the assassin decided to make a move.
“I need an explanation.” Raynor demanded. “If what Jean said is real…”
“It ain’t real.” Tosh denied quickly. “Why would I try to murder one of the lieutanents of my associate? Do you have any proof?”
The Raiders looked at Jean. Jean silently transported a file to the adjacent. A second later the video appeared on the computer screen of the bridge.

In the video Jean was confronting a protoss when a blade suddenly ignited in mid air and stabbed her in the stomach. In the video Jean screamed and fell on the ground, but luckily for her the terran failed to develop blades that could be cloaked, and Jean was able to throw an emp grenade at the blade. The emp exploded, and a specteur exited cloak mode and fell on the ground. In the video Jean groaned and stood up and stabbed the specteur with the blade he dropped. The video ended when Wolfpack marines came to the rescue.
Tosh silently cursed. His boys should be smarter than this. He told them to make it look like a protoss did it, which meant use melee psi blades, but attacking fronton and stabbing non vital organs was just stupid. Furthermore, the man got completely disabled by one single emp and got executed by a heavily wounded girl. How stupid was he?
At this moment even Tosh thought what happened in the video was the truth and the only reason Jean survived was because of luck and the lack of skills in the assassin. He couldn’t possibly imagine Jean used her computer to put together the video. Hell she even stabbed herself in the right position to make the video look real.
Raynor looked at Tosh with all the rage in his eyes. “Explain this Tosh.” His hand rested on his pistol. Being betrayed by someone he trusted was one of the few things he despised the most. Kerrigan fell to the betrayal of Mengsk, and now Jean almost died because Tosh betrayed her. It took all the logic inside him not to shoot Tosh in the head the way he wanted to shoot Mengsk.
Tosh’s eyes twisted. He spent time to get in contact with Jim Raynor. If he was successful enough, then the Raiders would help him take down New Folsom prison and perhaps even take down Arcturus Mengsk. He really wanted to work with the Raiders, but his lack of control over Jean made him overreact. It was the first time he couldn’t sense anything from a normal non-psychic person, and it scared him. He took actions, and they failed. As a consequence he had just lost all the trust he built with the Raiders. From what he sensed the entire bridge wanted him dead.
“That was unfortunate. I thought we could be friends.” Tosh whispered. “Yes,” He gave up denying and finally admitted. “I did order the assassination, but I am not going to pay the price.” His body disappeared into cloaking mode. He was confident he could escape. The Hyperion lacked mobile detectors, and no one would be stupid enough to launch an emp in a battlecruiser that would fry all the circuits. What could stop him?
Until a bullet hit him in the chest. The last thing he saw was Jean holding a guass pistol. How…
He never got the answer.

AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
