Year 2040

Jan 22, Sunday, 11pm:

Ryu Yasahiro was on the back seat of a black Bentley Mulsanne, looking outside through the bullet proof window. He was on his way back to his home after a boring party that he had to attend because of his grandfather being one of the pioneers of the new Japan Federation. He was exhausted because of all the attention directed towards him by all those people who wanted to impress his grandfather by impressing the grandson.

Ryu had always despised those old coots, each and every one of them had greed and an insatiable lust for power in their eyes. Some had wanted him to marry their daughters or granddaughters, while those who had sons and grandsons asked him to hang out with their children.

Such attention and greed would have been too much for an ordinary 17years old boy, but not for Ryu. Ryu had experienced firsthand the cruelty of the world and the people living in it. The pain he had gone through had made him more mature and patient. His understanding of the people helped him during these parties.

Every time somebody came to chat to him he would always have one of those business smiles that old politicians usually gave. He would humbly reply to all those who talked to him. If anybody had bothered to look deep into the boys eyes they would understand that the boy only had disgust in those golden brown eyes during those chats.

Now he was on his way back to his grandfather’s mansion. His grandfather had insisted on him taking only the most luxurious car the family had. This was to make those who saw the black beauty realize the wealth and power the Yasahiro family now possessed.

Ryu sighed! He was truly tired. He wanted to reach home and sleep on his mother’s lap. He asked his driver who was in a black suit, Kiro,

“Kiro-san, how long is it gonna take? I am kinda tired, you know. Those elders sure know how to talk rubbish”. Ryu said with displeasure in his voice

Kiro smiled and replied, “In 10 minutes, young master. We are almost there. Meanwhile you may take a short nap; the seats can be made into a bed.”

“Maybe I should”, said Ryu and closed his eyes for some shut-in, but the moment he closed his eyes, his now deceased father's face came to his mind. A strong and handsome face, with golden brown eyes, eyes so powerful that people found themselves unable to maintain eye contact for long.

Ryu was half Japanese and half Indian, a strange couple one would say. Even he himself thought his father and mother to be so different that he sometimes found it hard to believe them to be husband-wife. His father, Dev Khatri was from a powerful family in India. It was said that his father’s ancestors were once kings in India.

His mother, Miyuki Yasahiro was the only daughter of Isamu Yasahiro, the 7th head of Yasahiro Industries, which was at that time one of the leading weapon production industries, not too big not too small.

They met in India when Miyuki came to do some research for her university papers about one of the oldest civilizations. She had visited Dev’s palace to know about his ancestor’s life. Ryu was told that it was love at first sight for both. In a year the two got married. Dev had then been the CEO of a financial institution, with him being the founder of the very same.

Their marriage was controversial, with both families being strongly against it. But neither of the two was ready to give up. Thus, eventually the two were accepted by the two sides. Everything was going fine, both were happy; they now had a son, Ajay and a daughter, Kripa now. But all good things come to an end, and the same happened with them too.

In the year 2029, a war broke out amongst the Asian countries. China had declared war against most of the Asian countries. This war was later called the 1st nuclear war and spanned 4years. The first to be attacked was India. During the war, India was in turmoil. The Economy failed, the government failed, and people fell into despair. In 2 years, the northern half of India was turned into a barren land.

The Khatri family had lost almost everything too. Most of the family went missing, some had fled. So, the Khatris decided to flee to japan. But time and fate was too cruel to them. On the day of their departure, Chinese soldiers stormed into their mansion. The servants were brutally murdered. Dev and Miyuki carrying their children were running towards their vehicle.

But before Dev could reach the car he was shot. Miyuki froze; Dev was lying on the ground carrying their 1 year old daughter. The child began crying. Soldiers were running towards them while shooting. Miyuki tried to grab Dev and the child. But a frail woman could not carry three people at the same time.

Dev told her to take the two children and go, with tears rolling down from his eyes, yet a smile on his lips. He had treasured his family and he didn’t want them to die in front of him now. He forced Miyuki to run. She had refused in the beginning, profusely. But again the crying of the children gave her a reason to leave her love behind.

“Goodbye... my love”, she heard Dev whispering. She ran with the two children in tow.

Miyuki was now in the car, driving as fast as she could. She could still hear the sound of gun shots. In her mind's eye, she could see her husband being shot mercilessly by those soldiers. She wept, in her eyes were anger, despair, and sadness. But there was a small ray of hope too. Those black eyes laid now on her children. She still had a family to protect.

They reached the airport in minutes. A private jet was already waiting for them. Dev had poured all of his remaining money to procure one. The jet was their carriage to life. The family of three boarded the plane. It was a short journey, but she felt it to be the longest she ever had.
