《Seeker》Afterword

First of all, I want to apologise for the radio silence before the final chapter. I have spent 11 hours straight writing on Saturday which lead to exhaustion, burnout and a pretty bad headache. But now I am back and I can get down to business.
To make things simpler for everyone involved, I will split this entire thing into segments since I don’t think a TLDR works for what I have in mind. You can ask me any additional questions in the comments below and I might add the answers as Edits if you ask something I think everyone should know.
Before we start, please consider rating this fiction, whether you liked it or not. It really makes a huge difference in reaching more people and honest criticism can go a long way in helping me improve in the future.
My thoughts about Seeker and comparison to my initial ideals and goals. What happens with Seeker from now on. Returning to my long-running story and what I plan in the very nearby future. A huge thank you to all of you.

1 - My thoughts about Seeker and comparison to my initial ideals and goals
Originally Seeker was my Nanowrimo fiction (and eventually Writaton once Wing went mad with power and increased the word goal). I had been wondering between the story of Seeker and a recreation of a semi-old DND campaign I had once upon a time played with a bunch of my friends. The final reason why I decided to go for this was because I believe Nanowrimo is about improving and learning. About daring that desolate wasteland of rapid updates, minimal retrospect and little revision. And I dare say it did help me improve, in other ways than just writing. I had begun exercising at the start of November, finally doing something else than wasting away my life behind this trusty screen of mine and I truly feel like I have turned over a new leaf.
My original intention with the choice of setting was quite simple: Two characters who are the villains of each other’s story. Midway through I unfortunately kind of gave up on Angelica, for multitude of reasons. First, I set off with the wrong foot. Yeah, that massacre at the old church area was just not a good thing and had little to no impact on the overall story (that is likely the one thing that I might at least adjust - If you have no idea what I am talking about, then it’s already changed). Since then everyone kind of hated her, so I rather focused on Galileo’s side of the story, which I actually had put far more thought into anyway. Overall, her plotline should have been longer and very different. Her finding new hope was not supposed to be so sudden but a long process taking many dialogues and chapters. I had an entire arch in mind devoted to Anderson's grim past which I never got to tell and Michael ended up being a completely different character than I had originally thought he would.

I have not answered comments on the Endgame chapter for a few reasons. It is up to the person to like or dislike the ending and I understand that bad and unhappy endings are not often popular, leaving many people dissatisfied and angry. From what I have read, some people believed the events that befell Galileo and Quinn were justly deserved while others truly disliked the conclusion. Such a thing is up to the person, however, I would still like your feedback, even better if you could try to analyze why you liked/disliked the ending, so that I can improve those aspects in the future. In my entire writing career, this has been the first ending I have ever written out and I refused to accept something cliche even at the cost of a backlash since this will allow me to learn far more than any cookie-cutter happy ever after could.
You might have noticed that the ending was a bit, let’s say open. Galileo is perhaps a bit fucked, however, there are still stories to be told. If I managed to interest you at least slightly in the backstory of Third or First as I have cryptically called them, I have achieved my other intention. You see, taking a break like this from my main story felt great and healthy, preventing burnout etc. I would like to repeat a similar thing in the future, perhaps in 3 or 4 months where I could just take a month or two off and write something else. And developing an entirely different universe of closely or loosely interconnected stories felt like an interesting concept I would love to try. I had left a lot of information that didn’t serve a much purpose as it should have or served no purpose besides trivia. Those things could be the foundation of a new and completely different story or an entire myriad of fictions. If there is still someone from the days I started writing my first two (now deleted) fictions you might have noticed that I have once upon a time attempted to write a story of one of the two strange characters until I eventually gave up rather early on because of both the lack of support and the lack of skill to pull off something to my satisfaction. I am telling you this to prove that I had put a lot of thought in both of their characters, in fact, their concepts far precede Galileo.

Overall, I have achieved what I set out to do: Take a break from my main story while I improved my writing and further defined my own style. Albeit what I had achieved creation wise is not the miracle work that most authors hope for, I think it is not horrible either. I mean, you can prove me wrong or correct with a review. That much is up to you, though I highly encourage it since reviews really help me. That is all I can think of right now, let’s move on.
2 - What happens with Seeker from now on.
As I have said in the previous section: I had planned to do so much more with this fiction. Yet this is how it ended up with my limited energy, time and ability to not constantly procrastinate. But it would pain my heart to just let it go like this, meanwhile, just adding and heavily editing chapters would likely result in a mess that would only confuse new readers that find this story. For that reason I have decided that I am going to review the entirety of this story, adding and adjusting many things before I try to self publish (perhaps in the hope of finally not having to depend on my parents for all monetary needs). I have no idea about price or date, however, since I have other plans don’t expect nearby future. My current goal is late January to February, but my time-based goals rarely work out. A rule of thumb would be that if you see me at the official RR discord asking for advice about covers and self-publishing, it should be soon™ after that. I will definitely add a new chapter on the actual release, so you may consider following this fiction if you hadn’t yet. (And you might as well rate while you are at it. Please, it really helps me a ton.)
3 - Returning to my long-running story and what I plan in the very nearby future.
First of all, I want to take a short break before I return to a regular upload schedule. Let’s say until next weekend. However, that doesn’t mean I am going to be idle! I am planning to rewrite a few of the early chapters of my long-running fiction, since they honestly really need that. I would also like to perhaps finally create a buffer since I am now capable of writing far more often than I used to. Meanwhile, it would be nice to try my hand at DMing a DND group since our previous DM ended up long term in a desolate place without internet.
4 - A huge thank you to all of you.
And finally, I really want to thank all of you for reading, commenting and sharing your thoughts from the bottom of my heart. Extra thanks goes to those who followed and added the fiction to their favourites. And the greatest thanks to those who went the extra mile and rated. Ratings of any kind greatly increase my chance of reaching more viewers and thus getting more critics who help me improve or supporters who keep me motivated. All of you are awesome and I thank you for accompanying me on this month-long journey. Whether you depart or go on with me, I wish you the best of luck and a wonderful day.
5 - List of edits (in chronological order).
Edit 1: I ended up applying a patchwork solution to the end of chapter 2 and the beginning of chapter 4. Thought it was probably worth mentioning here.
Edit 2: I rewrote the vast majority of the synopsis making it far more compact and hopefully more attractive.
One final reminder as I can’t stress enough, if you wish to support me, writing a review is the best way to do that. Thank you.

Dominion Expansion (a 4X LitRPG)
Clay is one of the world's top players of 4X games, a genre where the goal is to eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. He's also one of the only players in the world to so stubbornly stick to the one city strategy, a favorite tactic of his that involves only ever using a single city or planet depending on the game's setting. All that matters to him is winning with his favorite strategy, but earning the respect of his fellow players for taking a sub-optimal strategy to its highest level has always been a nice bonus. And now it is because of his skill and entertaining determination that he has been chosen to represent a higher realm in a strategy game where the fate of Earth and dozens of other worlds are at stake. To the victor goes the spoils, and the spoils include entire worlds and billions of lives. That's how he ends up representing the ascended realm of Hell in a grand "game" between an entire pantheon of godly beings and other higher powers. But while it may just be a game to those overseeing it, it is a genuine war for survival to those participating in it where billions of real lives will go to the victor of whoever wins, and many will die before the game is over. Quick Author's Notes: System inspired by Civilization, Endless Legend, Stellaris, and Crusader Kings 2. Combat mechanics inspired by the Total War series. Slow-paced with many long-term plans. Protagonist has a personality heavily inspired by Ron Swanson. Know who that is and love him? You should like Clay. Know who Ron Swanson is and hate him? You'll probably hate Clay. Planning on writing every single day (turn). Days with important things happening will have the system/game mechanics be the priority of the chapter. Days where there isn't really anything important happening will be more slice-of-life and focused on character interactions. Designed a dice-based randomized map generator to create the world as the story goes on, so I don't even know myself exactly what's going to happen as a lot is dependent on world generation. Tech tree with hundreds of technologies already designed. There is a "harem," but it's not the main focus, the girls won't be cardboard cutouts, and I'm not going to completely forget about any previous women in the relationship whenever a new one comes along. One last thing. The "game" starts off with primitive technology level. The current plan is for the "endgame" tech level to be equivilent to WW2-era technology. After that and war just gets boring until you end up in space. Cover is temporary and made from royalty-free stock images while waiting for the real cover's commission to finish.
