《Scritch》-17-

Blast climbed up the side of the caravan and perched herself on top, watching into the distance as the naked disheveled man ran after himself. Her stiff reptilian face looked as inquisitive and bewildered as possible.

“I have questions,” Blast said.

“I have no answers,” Leoric said before unhitching the mule and hopping onto the driver’s seat. Baldir followed him.

“Okay, just give me the best guess you have,” Baldir said as they went the opposite way of the store and the fleeing man.

Leoric gave a noncommittal shrug and smugly grinned as the cart rocked along the way. Baldir looked frustrated grumbled until Leoric spoke again, “Hey Baldir?”

“What?” Baldir asked.

“You’re still thinking about it, aren’t you?” Leoric asked.

Baldir shoved Leoric off the wagon. He hit the ground with a thud of well-deserved laughter.

Blast craned her head and watched as Leoric’s form passed them by.

“Goodbye grandpa. You were good while you lasted,” Blast said.

“I still have the dragon nip!” He shouted back after Blast. She froze. Leoric was standing on shaken feet, dusting himself off.

Blast whipped her head back from Leoric to Baldir and ran to the wagon, looking down over Baldir with an impatient snort.

“Stop the cart!” Blast snarled.

They resumed their way down the road and into the next town.

Scritch was in the cabin of the wagon and found her pack of holding in her little box. She pried it open and slipped out the crystal orb.

She patted at the glassine surface of it until she came across her information. She scrolled through menus, statuses, and boons until she found Blast’s statuses.

“Blast got bigger,” Scritch said to herself as she tapped at the options.

Scritch found a menu as she tapped and scrolled. Her little chitinous claws clinked and clicked as they went through one selection after another with curious little noises.

“They have options in here you can change!” Scritch said excitedly as she poked around.

“Wait what!?” Leoric asked before tossing the reigns into Baldir’s lap and diving into the back with a clatter.

Blast crawled over the tarp of the wagon and over the edge, and onto the ceiling a moment before dropping down to the floor with a flitter of her wings.

“You can change things!?” Leoric asked.

“MAKE ME BIGGER,” Blast demanded.

“Can’t,” She said as she poked the line that listed the stat of Blast’s size. It was greyed out and didn’t do anything, but when she poked her fire stat, it showed options and ‘assignable points.’

Fire: 3/9,999

Assignable Points: 6

“What’s an ASS- IG-NABLE point?” She said, sounding out each metered syllable.

“Assignable…” Leoric said as he perused the options available to assign.

Spark: 2

Blaze: 1

Inferno: 0

Hailfire: 0

Incinerate: 0

Icefire: 0000

-All unassigned points will be distributed to highest category automatically after each class level-

“It says I can ass-sign points to these,” Scritch said before showing the options to Leoric and Blast.

“It will take forever for her to move up a class level without more Fire. They’ve had this power the entire time,” Leoric said with surprise.

“What’s going on in there?” Baldir asked as he slowed the mule to a halt and leaned over the driver’s seat.

“We can change things in our profiles,” Leoric said, amazed as Scritch reached to push the ‘spark’ button. A point drained away from her available points pool and applied to spark.

“Are you sure you would like to assign this point?” It asked.

“DO IT!” Blast said as she paced around the base of the ball and watched with glee and Scritch accepted.

Blast scrambled around excitredly, bobbing her head and shot a testing spark as her flame went from 3/9,999 to 4/9,999 in an instant!

“Don’t put another point in spark for now, try pushing a point to blaze,” Leoric said as he viewed the roles.

“Why?” Blast asked.

“If we go ahead and give you a point in blaze, you can be spitting fire sooner,” Leoric said.

“Give me all the points in blaze!” Blast said excitedly.

“Hmm. Let’s give a point to Blaze and see what happens first,” Jack said.

Leoric directed the point for Scritch and watched as Blast excitedly ran in circles, sparking and coughing little bleats, trying to spread her fire wide.

Finally with a short cough, she managed to shoot a short little streak of flame.

They all silently stared at the orb, wondering what madness they could wreak.
