《Super Soldier not Super Hero》Ch: 30 Three on one

Emily looked up to see her whole team looking at her. Keying up she said “Green Shell Forty-Seven in route.” Not waiting for the order Emily grabbed her Rifle and leaped off the roof. She landed on her feet cracking the cement sidewalk.
“Oops.” She thought to herself with a smile.
She heard command ask if either Forty or Fifty had an angle for a shot. Both teams came back negative. She was sprinting around the corner of the row houses when Command ordered her in. “A little late.” She thought with a smile. She saw the platoon hunkered down firing around the corner at the end of the street. The street they were on dead-ended into another street in a T shape and they were firing down the left side of the new street.
She sprinted to a group of soldiers on the far corner of the street. She saw one guy, a corporal, holding his mic leaning up against another soldier who was firing his assault rifle. The guy who was on the mic saw her coming and he waved at her. He looked like he was about to cry. She passed him and tapped the guy who was shooting on his shoulder.
He pulled back to the wall and looked at her. She gently moved him back and took his place on the wall. She leaned out around the corner to look down the street. The street ended about a hundred yards away in a cul-de-sac. Taking up most of the cul-de-sac was a large three-story building. Fighting in front of the building in the dusty street was a single EXO. Three other EXO’s were on the ground and not moving. Beside them on the ground were several unmoving bodies.
The EXO was fighting a woman in black pants and shirt with a white headscarf covering most of her face. She was carrying a metal spear that ended in points on either end. The EXO was trying to shoot her but she kept knocking his mini gun away. She smacked him hard in the stomach knocking him back a few feet off balance. Then enemy Super stabbed the EXO but he got his arm up in time so he was not impaled in the head. Instead, the spear went right through his armored arm and into his shoulder pinning him to the ground.
Cursing Emily stepped into the open and fired her M9. Her first shot knocked the enemy super back a step but her second and third shot did nothing even though Emily hit her in the head with the third shot. “She’s to close to him. I need to distract her. She thought to herself.
Cursing again Emily stopped firing and raised her hands. She gently removed her gun strap over her head and tossed aside her rifle to the group of Marines hiding behind the wall. The enemy super pulled her spear out of the Exo but didn’t stab him. She looked at Emily waiting. Emily walked out towards the middle of the street at an angle so that each step took her closer to the enemy super. She walked slowly her eyes on the super.
When she was about fifty yards away Emily lowered her hands and with her right hand, she slowly reached behind her back. The enemy super moved to point her spear at Emily and sliding her foot backward. It was a practiced move and well oiled. Emily started to get a little nervous. “What the hell is a female super doing with the OCS? Doesn’t she know her place is in the home raising the next generation of terrorists.” Emily thought with a smile as she got to the middle of the street. Her hand closed on Righteous.

“TRAP!” Yelled the downed EXO as he turned over onto his stomach. “SK in the windows!” He said as the tank treads on his shins tore into the dusty ground send him forward away from the enemy super. He pointed behind him to the big house. The enemy super didn’t move.
Emily cursed and sprinted forward towards the far right side of the cul-de-sac. Not a moment too soon as the windows in the big house blew out and SK rounds started to rain down on the street where Emily had been only seconds before. “It takes three to five seconds to reload an SK cannon. Takes a few seconds to aim. They won't fire if I am to close to her. I have to get close to her or I am dead.” Emily thought as she changed directions and headed towards the enemy super.
The door to the big house opened and a large man with a huge sledgehammer charged out. Behind him was a smaller man with a really big gun with an overly large bell clip at the bottom. The clip looked like a cylinder part of a revolver. “Is that a grenade launcher?” Emily thought incredulous.
The Female enemy super stabbed at Emily with her spear. Emily grabbed her little black knife from her waist and was able to redirect the spear away from her. She pulled Righteous from behind her back and raised it to kill the female super but had to step back and use it to block the sledgehammer. That left her completely open the guy with the gun. Who shot her.
The bullet hit her in the stomach and exploded. It didn’t hurt but it did knock Emily off her feet and she flew backward a few feet. “Too far.” Emily thought as she landed on her back. She was too far away from the three supers. She was wide open for the SK cannons. Emily rolled to her feet and charged back towards the three supers. Lucky the SK cannons didn’t fire.
The Female super tried to stab her again but Emily spun around a using her little black knife again redirected the spear away from her. She swung Righteous around to cleave the Female supers head off only to get shot again knocking her backward. Emily used the momentum to roll back to her feet and immediately charged back towards the three supers again.
The female super tried a third time to stab her. This time Emily used Righteous to knock the spear away. She spun to her left putting the female super in between her and the grenade launcher. The Female Super ducked just as her partner sledgehammer swung over her head towards Emily. Emily ducked the hammer giving the Female super time to step forward leaving enough room for the gun-wielding super enough room to shoot Emily again.
Emily rolled to her feet only to duck as an SK round flew over her right shoulder exploding into a house behind her. Emily cursed even as she charged the three supers again. “The gun guy needed to go.” She thought to herself.
The Female super swung her spear at Emily’s legs trying to trip her as the guy with the sledgehammer stepped up beside the Female super and raised the sledgehammer over his head downwards towards Emily’s head.
“This is going to hurt.” Emily thought as she spun again using Righteous to block to spear. Still spinning Emily spun around the Female Super’s back as the gun-toting super raised his gun. Emily ducked under the gun and buried her little knife into the supers stomach. Less than a second later the sledgehammer crashed into Emily’s left-hand shoulder.

Emily screamed as she felt her shoulder dislocate and break. She dropped to her knee. The Female super spun around and tried to stab Emily in the head. But Emily ducked under spear and stood up. She stepped to the right-hand side as the guy with the hammer tried to crush her skull. She took a step back from him. Her left arm hung completely useless at her side. The gun guy had dropped his gun and had fallen forward on to his face. Emily hoped he was dead.
The Female Super tired to stab her again with her spear. Emily stepped to the right dodging the spear bringing Righteous around and then down on the spear. At the last second, Emily changed the angle of her attack. Righteous hit the spear right wear the enemy super was holding her spear. The angle was wrong to break the spear but she was not trying to break the spear. Righteous landed ax head first onto the Female Supers fingers slicing them off.
The woman screamed and dropped her spear. Emily spun around and brought Righteous upwards with a backhand swing striking the sledgehammer that was descended towards Emily. The hammer part of the back end of Righteous hit the flat part of the sledgehammer's striking end. With a loud clang, both weapons stopped completely.
Emily felt the pain radiate down from her arm through her whole body and down to her feet. The pain from her shoulder burst wide open. She spun around away from the hammer guy. With tears in her eyes, she quickly changed direction again when she noticed the hammer guy raise the hammer above his head again. Emily spun towards him and slammed Righteous right into his chest.
The huge man dropped the hammer behind him. His eyes wide in surprise he looked down at the tomahawk buried in his chest. He dropped to his knees and then fell backward in an awkward position dead. Emily reached down to pull righteous from his chest but was interrupted by the Female supers scream of rage. Emily had forgotten her.
Emily turned towards her as the Female super raised her spear in her right hand to her shoulder and threw the spear at Emily. Emily ducked and twisted out of the way. The spear flew past Emily left shoulder grazing her. It sliced her blouse but did not cut into her skin. Emily looked up at the now weaponless woman and grabbed Righteous from the dead supers chest. With a wet sucking sound, it pulled free.
The Female Super screamed in rage again and reaching into her shirt pocket pulling out a handgun. Emily slowly walked towards the super holding Righteous loosely. The Female super was a good shot Emily admitted to herself as she felt the bullets hit her in the face. It did no damage but it did sting a little Emily raised righteous over her head and brought it down on the Female super. The Tomahawk hit right where the Female supers neck met her chest on the left side of her body and traveled downwards biting deep into her chest. She dropped to the ground dead.
“Cannons.” Someone cried out in warning.
Emily cursed herself for forgetting about the cannons and leaving Righteous buried deeply in the dead supers chest raced forward. She took two steps before she heard the cannons going off. She crouched down and ran as fast as she could. She could head the SK rounds exploding behind her as she raced towards a small alleyway between two houses. At the last second Emily dove into the alleyway. She twisted in the air so she wouldn’t land on her left shoulder.
It still hurt when she landed on her right shoulder. Emily cursed yet again and grabbed her left should with her right hand. She curled up into the fetal position as an SK round blew through the wall she was hiding behind. The round hit several feet above Emily but it rained down bricks on her and part of the wall collapsed on top of her. A half a second later there was a loud KA-BOOM!
“That’s not an SK cannon.” Emily thought as she raised her head. Her ears were ringing even though she was wearing her hearing protection. In the silence, she heard a metallic grinding noise. Then there was another KA-BOOM!
“Tank! That’s a tank.” Emily thought to herself just as the main gun came into view. Emily remained on the ground in the alleyway as the tank slowly drove past her towards the end of the cul-de-sac. Emily smile and slowly stood up.
“Green Shell Forty-Seven, Green Shell Actual. What's your status?” Emily radio suddenly spoke. Startling Emily. She sat back down again and closed her eyes. She felt exhausted. “Dammit lost my boonie hat again.” She thought to herself when she ran her hand through her hair. She let her head hand down as she rubbed her head again.
“Green Shell Forty-Seven please come in. What's your status? If you are injured and need assistance please key your mic once.” Emily’s radio asked. The guy on the other end of the radio sounded nervous.
Emily keyed up. “Green Shell Forty-Seven sorry was a little deaf from the tank. Status is green. Three Tangos down. Please keep the area clear while I check to make sure they are really down.”
“Copy Green Shell Forty-Seven. Will do.” Emily smiled a little bit. The guy on the radio sounded relieved.
Emily stood up and wiggled her shoulder. It still hurt but nowhere near as bad as it did before. Her healing powers were hard at work fixing it. She pulled her pistol out of the holster and walked towards the end of the ally way. The tank was sitting in the middle of what was left of the big house. It had driven right into the house. Emily laughed and shook her head.
She walked out into the street to where the three supers were lying on the ground. The Female super was lying on her back with one leg bent awkwardly behind her. Righteous was sticking up still buried in the woman’s chest. Emily reached out and grabbed her Tomahawk and pulled it free. Emily noticed the Woman’s eyes staring blankly into the sky. It only then did she notice that the woman was black.
“Foreign soldiers from Africa?” Emily wondered looking at the woman.
The next closest body was the sledgehammer guy. He was obviously dead with a huge gash in his chest. The last guy was the gun guy. He was lying face down on the street. Emily approached him cautiously. She raised Righteous over her shoulder and with her foot rolled him over. Limply he rolled over. He was dead. Emily’s little black knife was lodged deeply into the stomach with about an inch of the hilt inside his stomach. She had unknowingly angled it upwards under his ribs. It was in the wrong place to be in his heart. Emily wondered what she hit that killed him.
Keying up on her radio Emily said “Green Shell Actual, Green Shell Forty-Seven. Three Tangos confirmed down.”
“Copy Green Shell Forty-Seven. Please head back to Green Shell Forty nest.” Command asked her.
After acknowledging the order she bent down and pulled out her little black knife. She used the dead super to clean both her weapons off. She turned to the tank and waved. To her surprise, the tank raised its main gun up and down. Emily laughed. It was good to be alive.
Emily turned back down the street away from what was left of the cul-de-sac. When she turned the corner she walked into a medical nightmare. The street was clogged with medical Humvees, several medics running from one patient to another frantically. She walked to the side so not to get in their way until she heard her name being called.
“Never! Hey Never! Over here!” A voice called out from the organized chaos. Looking around she found a man half in and half out of an EXO suit. He was waving to her. It was the boring guy from the cookout. The one she walked out on. She hurried over to him. As she got closer she realized he was the one fighting the Female super one on one. He was the one who warned her about the SK cannons. And she had no idea what his name was.
“Hey EXO,” Emily said cringing a little at not knowing his name. To try to cover her snafu up she said. “You looked a lot better at the cookout than right now.”
She winced as she realized what she said. “What the hell is wrong with me. This guy saved my life. I would have been SK food if not for him.”
“I just wanted to thank you for saving my life. I owe you big time. Ask me anything and it’s yours.” He told her.
“Hey, you saved my life too. You gave me the warning about the cannons.” Emily said then paused and then continued when she realized he must have been the one who warned her at the end of the fight. “Twice. So if anyone one owes anyone it's me. I owe you.”
He blushed and smiled. “Let's just call it even between friends.”
Emily laughed “Ok EXO. I need to get back. I’ll see you when I see you.” She told him patting him on his non-injured arm winching at what she said.
She stood up and move to walk away when he said. “It's Michael.”
Embarrassed at being caught at not knowing his name she said. “Nah its always going to be EXO. You went toe to toe with a Main and live to tell everyone about it. Get Healthy EXO. One of these days you need to teach me how to drive one of these things.” Emily said motioning to the EXO suit he was wearing. Micheal smiled and blushed again.
Emily smiled and turned away to look for her rifle. She found her rifle sitting in the back of one of the humvees. Grabbing her rifle she made her way back to the nest. They still had a city to clear.

To Blunt The Sharpest Claw
The Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels are a series of New Fable genre novels that involve cats and dogs and high adventure and romance and espionage and food-fights and hotels and explosions and car chases. With large casts, exotic locations and an absurdity only possible in the absence of human characters, the Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels blend Wind in the Willows with James Bond, though with more cafes and fewer badgers. This submission is the third title in its Morigan Trilogy, beginning two-thirds of the way through the series' longest adventure yet. Here's a quick recount of what's happened so far: When Oscar Teabag-Dooven, a Velvet Paw of Asquith, is ordered to investigate how a mysterious poet, the Ar'dath-Irr, is able to travel instantaneously around the world, two very bad things happen. Firstly, he meets Lydia, an insane librarian who punches everyone in the face, and secondly, the Ar'dath-Irr reveals he is intent on taking over the world. Although this second thing might be considered worse than the first, Oscar feels differently following Lydia’s destruction of a cafe, a library and his face in one afternoon. In comparison, thwarting world domination just seems easier. Along with Binklemitre, a fellow Velvet Paw of Asquith, and Lydia, Oscar infiltrates the Ar’dath-Irr’s realm of dark poetry to discover the dog not only intends wrenching the world apart but has no intention of cleaning up afterwards. As a result, Oscar decides it’s all too hard and goes home to have a bath. After lots of arguing and the sort of food fight that posh restaurants were invented for, Lydia and Binklemitre convince him that they must stop the Ar’dath-Irr for several reasons, one of them quite serious. A vibrant cast of characters collide as Oscar, Lydia and Binklemitre battle the Ar’dath-Irr and his disciples in an adventure involving exploding cafés and appalling hotels, car chases and inadvertent surgery, dreadful poetry, lots of arguments and at least one temper-tantrum, all of which draw the three into dark and convoluted corners of a world they weren’t aware existed. Moreover, any chance of sitting down and discussing things over some buns disappears when Lydia punches the Ar’dath-Irr in the face. This results in her having a psychotic episode and Oscar getting run over by an ambulance. Although Binklemitre suffers neither, he witnesses both, which is almost as dreadful, though not nearly so messy. An enormous battle ensues, followed by a dinner party and then everything explodes.
