《Magus Of Darkness》Chapter 2: Talent and element test

After everybody got down from the air-ship the supervisor magus came in front of everybody and said,
“ Now we have reached the selection site and from now on I’m not responsible for your safety”
When he finished , a cute looking girl with a maid outfit came closer and bowed to the magus, then said “ My master is ready for them, may I take them?”
“Yes you can” answered the magus and then disappeared like a ghost.
Some students let some surprised voices come out of them. That was the first time they saw a magus speed.
“Can you please follow me into the tent, my master is ready to test you”
Some student couldn’t help but ask,
“What kind of a test do you mean?”
“ The talent and element affinity test” Answered the maid
When the students heard that they were very nervous because this was the test that will decide their future. And at the back of the group stood Adrius with a complex expression on his face. ‘ So this is the time to know if I’m talented or not’ In these days on the trip he read a lot of books that talk about magus and their power, the former owner was a descended from a magus family and that was very helpful for Adrius because the memories that he got were uncompleted. So he read a lot and obviously knew about the test but he didn’t know everything he only knew the known facts.
“ Now please follow me” Said the maid with a voice that says no time for questions now.
They walked for five minutes when they faced a big tent, it was blue with golden strips on it. The maid walked in first and everybody followed her. When they got in they couldn’t believe their eyes. The tents furniture was made out of gold, there was a table at the middle of the tent and behind the table sat an old woman with wrinkles all over her skin and white hair. The woman looked at the students with a casual look and then she said,

“You probably already know the importance of a tablet and an affinity but I will repeat it so those who don’t know won’t bother me with questions. First the talent has five levels 1,2,3,4,5 Where 1 is the worst and 5 is the best. As for the affinity, it is the element that you are the most compatible with you can still use another element but the element that has the highest affinity to you will make your spells from the same element stronger. There is six elements
Fire Water Earth Lightning Light Darkness
That is everything you need to know for now” Saying that the woman stood up and said “ Now I want you one after another to touch this orb to measure your talent”. There were 2 orbs on the table one was bigger than the other. The students one after another started going to the table and touching the two orbs, but the other students couldn’t see the orb doing anything. Some walked away with big smiles and some walked with a hollow expression like someone just told them that their family was killed.
Finally it was Adrius' turn, he walked to the table and came face to face with the old magus woman.
“There is a spell on these orbs so no one can see the light or element you have.” Said the old magus lady.
‘So this is why I couldn’t see the orb do anything’ Thought Adrius to himself, then he did as the people he saw do he put his hand on the orb and waited for five seconds after that the orb began to glow like a small sun. The magus lady raised an eyebrow and said something under her breath, then Adrius put his hand on the other orb it was bigger than the first one. When Adrius put his hands on the orb the orb started to darken until there was no light in the orb. Then the orb became white again but it had writing on it.

Darkness: 70% Fire:40% Lightning: 26% Earth: 13% Water:7% Light: 1%
“ It seems that you have the darkness element” Said the magus lady
“ Can I know what my talent grade is and what does those numbers mean?” Asked Adrius with a polite manner.
“ Yes, your talent is 4 which is pretty good, and as for these numbers these are you affinity, the higher the percentage the stronger the element is for you”
“So can I raise the darkness element to 100%?” Asked Adrius with a spark in his eyes
“ Nope, the max is 99%, only the elemental creatures can reach 100%.”
That answer crushed Adrius' dream of achieving the 100%, ‘ so what even if I can’t reach 100% I will reach 99%’ Said Adrius in his heart.
“ Now you can go and look for an academy” Said the old magus lady with a dismissive tone.
When she finished she gave him a paper with his talent and affinity, and down below there were the academy's names. But these academies are special because they focus on one or two elements so the academies that Adrius had in his hand were the ones with the darkness and fire element. One academy held Adrius’ attention it was called The Raven Academy it was ranked first on the list. So Adrius chose to go to the academy’s tent and see how it was. When he was out of the tent he walked toward the sign that says The Raven Academy, but suddenly a 14 year old girl stood in front on Adrius and said
“Adrius Caseo I Christen Flamestone challenge you to fight for the honour of the Flamestone family and as a revenge for my cousin” She had the same red hair as her cousin but she was muscular not like her cousin, she had a cute face but it was screaming of anger right now. She couldn’t fight Adrius on the ship because the magus said that no fights were allowed so she waited until this location to challenge Adrius.
‘ Fuck, I don’t want to attract attention, and you bitch call me out in the middle of the students.’ The killing intent rose in Adrius’ heart because he was trying to keep a low key profile and then this challenge came out of nowhere. He didn’t want to run because no school would want him and they will deem him weak, so his only option is to fight her and make an example out of her so no one will do this again.
“ Ahh you are that fat pig cousin, it was unfortunate what happened to him” Said Adrius with an evil smile.
“You motherfucker, so it was true it was you who poisoned Elena and blamed it on Bevis!!” Screamed Christen with anger.
“That is a wild accusation, you know it will get you killed if you say it to the wrong person” Said Adrius with a cold voice, when the students around them heard the conversation they were terrified from Adrius because they were just 13-14 years most of them haven't killed an animal yet. And someone in front of them was talking about killing humans like it’s nothing.
“Now Shall we fight?” Said Adrius with a murderous glint in his eyes.

Ode to Fallen Angels
Jericho, the land of humanity, squirms in pain. Magic has been forbidden for so long in this so called "Age of Silence", that all Arcane knowledge has been presumed lost and irrecoverable, and the echoes of God's Will grow fainter with every passing year. The sight of Demihuman caravans is less frequent every day, as the likes of orcs and elves have learned to no longer beg for help from those who despise them. Clearly, they can expect more from the voracious wild lands than from humankind. Many have succumbed to despair, some driven mad by their fruitless efforts to bring back a Golden Age that they only ever read about in books. And in the middle of it all, in an old chapel lost in the Eastern lands, young Gabrielle lives in complete ignorance. She is another orphan living under the mercy of the Church of the Saints; one bearing the mark of evil in her red hair, the telltale sign of a Witch. In an Age of the Silent, the Prejudiced, and the Hateful, she clings to a single hope: that one day, be it in life or maybe after it all ends, she may find herself forgiven of her sin. The sin of being born.

The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
