《Old Cultivation Record》Chapter 17 - How Hard Could It Be

“You're staying on the couch. I get the bedroom.” Daryl says in an exasperated tone. Taylor was of no help with finding a place. He had no references and was basically broke from spending all his money on booze and his girlfriend. If it wasn't for Taylor's naturally friendly demeanor, Daryl would have thought that Taylor was using him. His heart was in the right place, but fuck was he useless.

Daryl managed to land a place pretty quick with an encouragement tip, but he couldn't rely on Taylor to cover the other part of a two bedroom, so they settled for a smaller place. It was furnished, which was great; less shit to think about.

“You gotta find a job, my dude. Quick, otherwise I'm going to kick you out. I’m warning you Taylor, it's going to be a sad goodbye but I'll effin do it.” Daryl says with exasperation. He felt like he was babysitting a kid.

“Relax, it's a job. How hard could it be to find one.” Taylor says as he sits down on the couch to relax.

“Taylor, you're capable of absolute crap. You have a highschool education and you've had one job, which only lasted for a couple months. Why the fuck would anyone think you're better than the rest? But that's not my problem. You still gotta do it.” Daryl says as he grabs a beer.

“Fuck off; you’re the same. In fact the only job you've had was dealing drugs.” Taylor says as he leans back and closes his eyes. “Hey, grab me a beer too.” He says.

“And I was fucking good at it too. If it wasn’t for that effin' gang, I'd be a drug lord by now.” Daryl says with a smile. He grabs another beer for Taylor and moves to the couch before throwing it to him.

Taylor abruptly manages to catch it after opening his eyes. “Fuck man, can't you just pass it over. Now it's fuckin' shook.” He says as he slowly lifts the tab up to release the pressure.

A few months later…

“Fuck.” Taylor says as he looks up to the ceiling.

He's received a couple rejections, a lot of no-answers, and he has yet to even get an interview.

“I told you man. You're useless. I see it and the world sees it.” Daryl says with a smirk.

Taylor looks to Daryl and shakes his head. Fuck this, he thinks. I'm a cultivator. I should just focus on that for a bit. Maybe someone will call back eventually... Taylor thinks to himself.

Come to think of it, I haven’t finished that book yet, Taylor thinks, as his mind wanders to other things. Maybe there's a way to make cultivator money? Taylor thinks. Fuck, where’d I leave that book?

“Hey man, you see an old book anywhere around here?” Taylor asks. “I'm not sure where I left it.” He says aloud.

“Don't look at me man. You've polluted this whole living room. Find your own shit. I'm not digging through that garbage.” Daryl says before turning away.

“Fuck,” Taylor thinks. I gotta find that book. He thinks to himself.
