Delilah, you’ve raised all your children well, they’re good and strong

Even though Twig’s fate is twisted, you did nothing wrong

Though it may not feel right to send him away alone

It’s only through hardship that he’ll find his skills to hone

Delilah cursed her guardian but new that she was right

The goddess had long guided her through many a great fight

Of all the deities who blessings she had once received

This one’s advice was the kind that ought to be believed

She looked down at her son, who struggled to comfort his dad

Hugging the great fool with the one good arm he still had

There was nothing she could do to make him safe or strong

Even if she gave him her sword, it would be too long

“Tell me, goddess of the sword, you’re a great deity

Tell me how to fix my poor son’s awful destiny

What’s the point of all you gods if you can’t manage that

‘Let him go...’ do you think I'll be satisfied with that?”

Achievement: Reckless Words

I’ll always have your back, but humans ought to know their place

The system could erase us both right now and leave no trace

Do you not feel the consequences of our words today?

The end of times could be just a single blessing away

Delilah knew as well as any what the goddess meant

But she was in no mood to give up or just repent

“Don’t think I would hesitate to throw this world away

If it meant that I could keep him safe for one more day”

Achievement: Futile Effort

You dare negotiate with an ascended one like me

I’d curse you if I didn’t know that you were just angry

Calm yourself before we both say something out of line

If the system notices, there’ll be more than a fine

Delilah clenched her fists in rage cried out through her tears

Then punched a hole right through a stone wall which had stood for years

She went to Twig and pried him from his father’s burly hands

And tried not to imagine him alone in far off lands

Heroes and adventure were both all to common things

And of the tales she new, all of them had happy endings

Sure, sometimes heroes went out in a blaze of glory

But she started doubting Twig’s would be such a story

“Listen to me boy, even with one hand, your my son

You go fight until you’re much stronger than anyone

And don’t you dare go dying like you almost did today

If you disobey me, then you best go hide and pray”

He nodded and was frightened by the look in his mum’s eyes

He’d never seen that expression, and it was a surprise

She looked as though she might explode but somehow she stayed still

Although it made him second guess whether a look could kill

“I’ll be as safe as possible, but I’ll figure this out

You all keep this village safe, and waste no time on doubt

Once I’ve figured out this curse I’ll come back home to you

Until then I’ll fight just as bravely as you taught me to”

With nothing left to say the family went home that night

But sleep was hard for Twig to find beneath the pale moon’s light

He looked out of his window at the stars that filled the sky

And wondered if the gods who toyed with fate were there up high
