Chapter 005 - For most people, a portal is a window of opportunity...

~

Achievement: Enemy of Birds

You climbed the tallest tree you found and disturbed all those birds

Such a selfish, pointless act that leave me with few words

Your reward is minus one intelligence today

When will you learn not to chase a sleeping bird away

Achievement: Vandal

That rock had been in place for nearly ten million years

You moving it over ten feet away brought me to tears

The view is permanently ruined, and it’s in the way

Minus one strength stat for your annoying deeds today

Achievement: Annoying Neighbour

Your dedication to developing your running skill

Woke a neighbour up early, your selfishness could kill

Minus one speed level for being so annoying

Stop making so much noise when your neighbours are sleeping

Achievement: Picky Eater

Your mother cooks such tasty food but you just turned it down

Sure you’re on a diet but you made your mother frown

Even if she understands and supports your diet

Minus one health point because I’m not okay with it

This kid is so annoying, when will he stop pretending

He wouldn’t be of use for more than broken broom mending

Clean your room and stay at home, you’ll never grow up strong

Training only makes you tired no matter for how long

And so the messages continued while he did his best

And though they were discouraging he never once did rest

Every time his blessings were reduced he felt their weight

And he no longer wondered how he’d drawn such a god’s hate

There was only one thing he could do, and that was train

To compensate for every skill the deity would drain

One day they might all reach zero, he’d be on his own

He would have to rely on his own power alone

His friends all did their best to aid him in his training too

The four had always been together, doing what friends do

They never criticized him even when progress was slow

They even taught him how to use a sword, an axe, and bow

Together they would play as they had always done before

But now they would often pretend they were all at war

Hunting made-up enemies or finding a lost cat

The missions were all humble but they were all fine with that

His parents worried endlessly about his weak nature

And worried for him as he sought out his own adventure

But together with his friends, Twig always persevered

And they would always help him when any trouble appeared

Once while they were play hunting a portal opened up

And they were surprised, it was the size of a tea cup

They gathered round in curiosity to check it out

Wondering what such a tiny portal was about

“Do you think it’s broken, or are there monsters this small?”

Leaf was probably the most curious of them all

“We should just throw rocks in there and see what we all hit”

Pebble was predictable and wanted to punch it

“We should tell our parents since it’s something strange and new”

Sky was most mature and sought the safest thing to do

“Maybe it could be a monster even I could kill”

But Twig saw opportunity which gave him quite a thrill

He waited there, while his three friends ran back to tell the town

He walked around it carefully before just sitting down

He waited and he waited and he feared nothing would come

He looked inside but could see where any would come from

Achievement: Invading Privacy

Didn’t your mom ever tell you not to peep through holes?

What if you saw someone changing, oh those poor, poor souls

Minus one mana for being such a peeping tom

Listen closer to the advice you get from your mom

Twig ignored the message as he always did but then

A chill crept up his back as if he’d found a lion’s den

Alone beside the tiny portal he could hear a sound

Buzzing came from inside the portal so small and round
