Clementine stared up through the whirling shapes and drab colors of the spirits of Purgatory. She floated in a pool at the bottom, brown curls fanned out around her head, yellow eyes dull.

Instinctually, Clementine knew that the pool washed away the memories of demons and spirits alike.

But now Clementine wasn’t sure which she was anymore. Was she forced into the pool? Did she lay down willingly?

She blinked slowly. What was her name again?.... Clementine...? Yeah that sounded right.

How long had she been laying there? Seconds, minutes, days? She should get up but...

The spirits tried to fly upward, grabbing each other’s legs and pulling them down to climb over them. Not a single one getting any closer to the exit.

Clementine willed herself deeper into the pool.
