Steven and Connie are sitting on the top-right hand of the Crystal Temple statue, tuning their ukulele and violin respectively. The pair then proceeds to sing a duet.

♫ The sun is bright, our shirts are clean. We're sitting up above the sea. Come on and share this jam with me. ♫

Connie starts playing her violin and singing a verse now. ♫ Peach or plum or strawberry, any kind is fine, you see. Come on and share this jam with me! I'll do my best, to give this jam the sweetness it deserves. ♫

♫ And I'll keep it fresh, I'm jamming on these tasty preserves! ♫ Steven sings.

♫ Ingredients in harmony, we mix together perfectly, come on and share this jam with me! ♫ Steven and Connie then sing together.

"WOO-HOO! Jam buds!" Steven cheers.

"Nice jam session!" Connie says as she puts her violin back in the case.

"Don't forget the best part!" Steven spreads some strawberry jam on a biscuit and prepares to eat it, when a flock of seagulls approaches and growls at Steven. Steven screams and flinches, when he sees Connie using her violin bow to fend them off.

"Yah! Hah! Hi-yah! Run back to your masters! Tell them we're not afraid of your kind!" Connie declares pointing the bow at the birds.

Steven just giggles. "Thanks for saving my jam snack. Unfortunately, it's not safe from me." He says then stuffing it in his mouth. "You're such a good sword fighter, Connie."

"Really?" Connie asks as she glances at her violin bow. "I was just swinging this thing around. I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'd love to learn how to use a real sword!"

"Oh!" Steven swallows the snack and gets starry eyes. "Steven has an idea!"

Steven had taken Connie inside the Beach house now where Pearl was sitting down on the living table looking confused at the two. "You want me to do what?" She asks.

"You should teach Connie to sword-fight like you did Y/n, she's already so good!" Steven says

"Steven!" Connie blushes.

"But you are! You took down that evil clone of herself, uh... those mean seagulls just now..."

"You're awfully young to begin something like this." Pearl says skeptical but she thinks. "But, I suppose I was only a few thousand years old when I began fighting alongside Rose Quartz."

Connie raises her hand for Pearl's attention.

"Yes, Connie?" Pearl says.

"Please, I wanna learn!" Connie says as she blushes. "I mean, I don't know what'll happen in the future, but if something dangerous comes along, I don't wanna be a burden, I wanna help! I wanna be there for Steven, to fight by his side like Y/n does! The Earth is my home too, can't I help protect it?"

Pearl is touched with tears of joy. "Oh... Okay...!" Pearl says as she stands up and wipes away her tears. "If that's how you feel, we should get started!" She says as she walks off towards the warp pad.

"Woo-hoo!" Steven cheers as he follows Pearl.

"Wait, now?" Connie asks.

Pearl, Steven, and Connie arrive on the Warp Pad just outside the main area of the sky arena. Pearl was carrying a small sword in hands. Connie, initially floating above the Warp Pad, falls on top of it and giggles.

"You okay?" Steven asks as he helps Connie up, who is still giggling. "It can take some getting used to."

"WOO!" Connie cheers almost falls over again, continuing to laugh, and Steven grabs her to keep her from falling over.

Pearl had moved on the steps to the arena now as she looked down to the pair. "Hey, you two, this way!"

Connie turns to Steven. "Race you!"

Steven and Connie run up the steps towards the main arena, laughing along the way. Pearl walks in front of them, until they all arrive at the entrance to the main arena.

"Woah!" Connie says in awe but the three can soon see a familiar figure in the arena with a rapier held in his hand

"Y/n!" Steven called out as he ran down towards him Connie and Pearl following behind.

"Oh hey Steven, Connie." Y/n says as he lowers his rapier now.

"What are you doing here Y/n?" Steven asks surprised.

"Just practicing. I'm going to spend a few days with my dad from tomorrow so thought I should put some work in first." Y/n chuckled.

"Y/n came to the temple early this morning while you were still asleep. I just so happened to be cleaning when he came to ask if he practice at the sky spire. I've been checking up on him every hour or so." Pearl says.

"Cool!" Steven said.

"Would you care to give Connie a demonstration?" Pearl asks.

"Thinking of taking up the sword Connie?" Y/n asked her.

"Uh-huh." Connie eagerly nodded her head.

"Well there's not much I can demonstrate, with a rapier a lot of the sword play is about thrusting rather then slashing as such. But Pearl is a pretty good teacher. I'm sure you will be able to learn a lot of from her." Y/n told Connie.

Y/n was sat in the area seats now as he took a break to watch Pearl begin to train Connie.

"This is an Ancient Sky Arena, Connie, where some of the first battles for Earth took place. It was here that I became familiar with the human concept of being a knight, completely dedicated to a person and a cause." She presents Connie with a sword. "This is what you must become, Connie; brave, selfless, loyal... a knight! We begin with a bow, first to me, your teacher."

Pearl bows to Connie, and Connie returns a slight bow back.

"Huh...this is different from my training..." Y/n says to himself but doesn't think anything of it.

"And now again, to your liege." Pearl says.

"Okay!" Connie turns to Steven and kneels to him. "My liege."

Steven bows back. "Miss Knight."

Steven and Connie begin giggling under their breath.

"I hope you two are taking this seriously." Pearl comments unamused.

"Yes, ma'am!" Connies says.

"Mmhm, mmhm." Steven nods his head.

Pearl's gem begins to glow, summoning a Holo-Pearl, causing Steven to grimace a bit.

"Cool, hologram Pearl!" Connie says.

"To begin, this Holo-Pearl will be your opponent." Pearl says.

Holo-Pearl summons a holo-sword. "Level 0, beginner, set." It says as it makes a stance. "Do you wish to engage in combat?"

"Yes!" Connie excitedly says but Steven's gem glows, and his bubble shield suddenly forms around himself and Connie.

"Uh Steven?" Y/n calls out to him.

"Hm?" Steven hums before he realises what has happened. "Oh!" He blushes embarrassed. "I...I'm sorry! Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry." He dispels his bubble and steps back. "Reflex. Uh, you just be careful, and I will go over here."

Steven walks off towards the stands nervously. Pearl walks up to Connie and places her right hand on Connie's sword arm, guiding its movement, and her left hand on Connie's shoulder. Holo-Pearl then walks up and crosses swords with Connie.

"Alright, everything begins with your stance. Remember..."

♫ You do it for him, And you would do it again. ♫ Pearl begins to sing.

♫ You do it for her, that is to say, You'll do it for him. ♫

Pearl guides Connie and her sword, as Y/n and Steven watches from the seats.

♫ Keep your stance wide, Keep your body lowered, As you're moving forward, Balance is the key ♫

Pearl then mentors Connie on her stance.

Over the next few days Connie starts visiting Steven and Pearl on a regular basis for sword training, with Steven preparing energy juices for her.

♫ Right foot; left foot, Now go even faster, And as you're moving backwards, Keep your eyes on me. ♫

Pearl then crosses swords with Connie, doing more stern on Connie to focus on her stance and target. Connie then begins singing

♫ Keep my stance wide. ♫

"Good." Pearl comments.

♫ Keep my body lowered. ♫

"Right." Pearl says.

♫ As I'm moving forward... ♫

"Concentrate! Don't you want him to live?!" Pearl asks.

Connie faces off with a higher-level Holo-Pearl. She momentarily loses her focus and Pearl chides her, while Steven watches in worry.

Connie ♫ Right foot, left foot. ♫

"Yes, but put your whole body into it!" Pearl instructs before she starts singing again. ♫ Everything you have, Everything you are, You've got to give... ♫

Connie regains her stance and dodges Holo-Pearl's attacks, continuing to spar off with it, as Steven keeps watching with fingers crossed.

♫ On the battlefield, When everything is chaos, And you have nothing but the way you feel, your strategy and a sword. You just think about the life you'll have together after the war! ♫

One night, Pearl projects a hologram and tells Connie and Steven a tale of the Gem Battlefield: Pearl was running through the chaotic battlefield when she spotted an unknown Gem is about to attack Rose Quartz. Without hesitation, Pearl rushed to defend Rose from the enemy.

♫ And then you do it for her, That's how you know you can win, You do it for her, that is to say, You'll do it for him. ♫

The hologram ends and Steven is in tears. Pearl proceeds to spar off with a Holo-Pearl and successfully beats it, filling Connie with confidence and determination.

♫ Deep down you know, You weren't built for fighting, But that doesn't mean, You're not prepared to try. ♫

From the constant training, Connie suffers minor injuries and skin tears on her sword hand. Pearl then comforts Connie momentarily and bandages her wounds and sword hand.

♫ What they don't know, Is your real advantage. When you live for someone, You're prepared to die. ♫

Steven walks in with refreshments for Connie, but Pearl chides them. Connie then gently declines Steven's offer and continues to train to Steven's dismay.

♫ Deep down, I know, That I'm just a human. ♫ Connie sings.

"True." Pearl says.

♫ But you know that you can draw your sword and fight. ♫ Pearl and Connie sing together.

Connie's appearance changes drastically, as she dons on a new training outfit and her sword-fighting skill progressively gets better.

♫ With my short existence. ♫ Connie sings

♫ I can make a difference. ♫

"Yes, excellent!" Pearl comments on Connie's form.

♫ I can be there for him, I can be his knight. ♫

Connie faces off with an advance-level Holo-Pearl as Pearl and Steven watch. With increased agility and increased sword proficiency, Connie successfully defeats Holo-Pearl.

♫ I can do it for him. ♫ Connie sings.

♫ You'd do it for her. ♫ Pearl and Connie sing together.

♫ Okay, now do that again. ♫ Pearl sings.

"Yes, ma'am!" Connie quickly replies.

♫ You do it for her, And now you say... ♫ Pearl sings.

♫ I'll do it for him. ♫ Connie concludes the song as she and Pearl and proceed to spar off a bit and then renew their vows to Steven, kneeling before him.

Steven however looks extremely uncomfortable.

It was another day and Steven, noticeably apprehensive, is sat at the kitchen counter reading a book titled "How to Talk to People", when Connie enters the house.

"Connie!" Steven cries as he gets up form his seat

"Hey, Steven." Connie says as she walks past Steven to the warp pad.

"Connie, wait!" Steven calls to her.

"Huh?" Connie says as she turns to him but the door to Pearl's Room opens, and Pearl walks out.

"Ah, right on time." Pearl says.

"Can we talk for a moment?" Steven asks Connie.

"Sure. What's up?" Connie asks.

"We have important training to do, Connie." Pearl interrupts.

"Yes, ma'am." Connie says.

"She's been making great strides, Steven. She's going to be an asset to you." Pearl tells Steven now.

Connie just makes a determined face as she steps onto the warp pad and Pearl warps her and herself away. Steven sighs in dejection, when the door to Amethyst's Room opens up, revealing Amethyst, laughing hysterically, and Garnet as they walk out.

"Wow, Garnet, that was the funniest thing I've ever heard!" Amethyst says.

"Garnet, master of comedy." Garnet says.

Amethyst and Garnet walk onto the warp pad, when they notice Steven looking troubled.

"Yo, Steven. Why are you standing there all SAD like that!?" Amethyst asks.

"W-Well, Connie is taking sword fighting lessons from Pearl, but I think it's getting a little too serious. She wants Connie to do all this dangerous stuff for me." Steven says as Amethyst and Garnet look at each other with concern.

"That makes sense." Garnet says.

"What do you mean?" Steven asks.

Garnet kneels back before Steven. "Back during the war, Pearl took pride in risking her destruction for your mother. She put Rose Quartz over everything; over logic, over consequence, over her own life."

As Garnet explains, a scene is shown of Pearl risking her life to defend Rose Quartz, constantly getting poofed and rushing back into the front line again. Steven then imagines Connie risking her life to defend him too, and he starts to freak out.

"You okay, dude?" Amethyst asks.

"I have to go get Someone!! Steven cries as he quickly turns and run towards the front door of he Beach house. "Thanks for telling me that, BYE!" He hastily says to Garnet and Amethyst before he runs out of the door.

Y/n was whistling in his kitchen as he made himself snack when the door suddenly pounded.

"Woah. Someone's desperate for my attention." Y/n joked a little and headed to the door opening it to see Steven. "Oh hey Steven. My Dad just went back to work this morning so I was about to head on over."

"Y/n I need your help it's Pearl!" Steven cried.

"What's happened is she alright?" Y/n asked.

"She's training Connie to throw her life away as a shield!" Steven told him.

"What!?" Y/n said shocked. "Quickly take me to them.

Y/n and Steven arrives and run to the entrance of the arena, where they see Pearl and Connie in the center of the arena.

"Remember, Connie. In the heat of battle, Steven is what matters. You don't matter." Pearl instructs Connie.

"I don't matter." Connie repeats.

Y/n clicks his teeth in annoyance as Steven gasps in shock and runs down towards Connie and Pearl with Y/n following.

"Now... let us... begin!" Pearl cries as her gem glows and she begins to amass clouds into the arena, concealing the battleground.

Steven starts searching frantically through the clouds. "Connie! Connie, where are you?"

Connie is heard shouting in the background, with the clashing of swords.

Y/n breaks through the mist now as he reaches Steven. "It's like you said." He says annoyed. "She's made her into a sacrificial puppet."

A shadow appears in the mist now as Steven hears footsteps. "Connie!" Steven cries but A Holo-Pearl approaches through the mist, and Steven slowly backs away. "Y-You wouldn't have happened to see Connie would you?" He asks it.

"Unregistered combatants detected!" Holo-Pearl says as it's eyes redden and it raises its sword. Y/n raises his rapier as Steven braces himself, when the Holo Pearl is suddenly impaled from behind.

"Connie!" Steven gasps

Connie's attack causes Holo-Pearl to quickly dissipate, and its saber drops to the ground.

"Steven? Y/n? What are you doing out here?" Connie asks them.

"We're here to be an end to this." Y/n says as two Holo Pearl's appear through the mist behind Connie and he quickly becomes engaged in combat with them both.

"What?" Connie asks not understanding.

As Y/n was fighting Steven runs to and grabs Connie now. "Connie, I don't want you to do this anymore! Not alone!"

Connie shakes her head, grinning. "No, Steven. I understand now! Your legacy, your destiny, you are everything! And I... I am nothing... But I can do this for you! I can give you my service!"

The two hear and see Y/n taking down one of the Holo-pearl's with his rapier thrust into it's chest.

Steven shakes his head. "No! I don't want you to!"

"But...Steven... I'm doing this... FOR YOU!" Connie pushes Steven's head down and ducks, dodging another Holo-Pearl's attack, and counters it with a slash, cutting it in half. "I need to be able to protect you!"

"But if you're the one protecting me... Then who's the one protecting you?!" Steven asks her.

Another Holo-Pearl approaches a distracted Connie, ready to strike. Steven runs forth and jumps in front of the Holo-Pearl, summoning his shield and blocking its attack. The vibration from the shield then causes the Holo-Pearl's in the area to dissipate.

"Someday soon, we may be fighting some really bad guys, and when that day comes, I want to fight with you, together!" Steven tell Connie now. "So please..." Steven offer his hands to Connie, when four Holo-Pearls appear on all sides of them. "...Won't you share this jam with me?"

Connie gladly takes Steven's hand now as all four Holo-Pearls leap up and dives down at Steven and Connie. Steven holds his shield up and blocks all their attacks.

"This is much easier!" Connie says.

"That's the idea!" Steven says as he then forms his bubble shield and pushes all the Holo-Pearls away, causing them to shatter and dissipate.

Y/n approaches the two now and the bubble surrounding Steven and Connie suddenly pops. Y/n crouches down as he puts his hand on Connie's shoulder. "Connie, What Pearl was teaching you is wrong...You are not a shield for Steven and no matter what comes in the future, we will all face it together." Y/n tells her.

"STEVEN! Y/N!" Pearl's voice as she disperses the clouds in the arena and reveals herself.

Y/n , Connie and Steven all look at her now.

"Y/n, Steven, don't interfere. She needs to take me on herself." Pearl tells the two.

"I will be your opponent." Y/n says as he gives Pearl no time to react and he engages her in a duel of swords.

"What are you doing!?" Pearl cries out shocked as she is quick to dodge a thrust from Y/n and return an attack of her own,.

"What you've done is wrong Pearl!" Y/n says to her as he blocks Pearl's strikes. "You've turned her into a sacrificial Puppet!" He cries angrily.

"She needs to be able to fight on her own!" Pear says back to him as she parries another of his attacks.

"WHY?!" Steven cries to Pearl now. "We're a team. She's the strawberry!"

"And he's the biscuit!" Connie says now.

"...and that makes us... " Steven starts.

"JAM BUDS!" Connie and Steven cry together.

"Wha...?" Pearl says confused.
