Chapter Text

"Hey! Finney!" Vance calls out after him, and Finney silently curses himself, all of his life choices, and Griffin, because that seems like a good option as well.

He tries to pretend he didn't hear Vance, continuing to walk faster, but Vance, who followed Robin blindly when he joined football and basketball, catches up to him easily.

"Hey, so, I was wondering if you could come over tonight, and help me and Robin with math?" Vance asks, math is a common thing he's being asked to help with because no one wants to work these days.

"I'll have to ask Donna, I wouldn't wanna just stand her up on our date-" "Oh, don't worry about it then, we'll find a way to study, have a great date!" Vance interrupts, patting Finney's back and walking away to meet up with his teammates.

"Fucking weirdo," Finney mutters to himself, walking past the group and trying to not be spotted by Robin who will definitely push more than Vance did. Vance is typically very 'if you already have plans, don't cancel because I want you to' the only exception being plans with Robin, because he will crash those in a heartbeat.

He fails, miserably, because Vance just had to open his big fucking mouth and blabber about how he just saw Finney and, therefore, he'll be passing by them soon.

"Finn! Baby, c'mere!" Robin calls out, the baby isn't meant to be of romantic perception, but the majority of people take it that way when he says it around people they don't know, his teammates are used to it now and just roll their eyes and continue on. "Hey, Robin," Finney replies, accepting the hug he wasn't offered much of a choice for.

"Hey, so, could you join me and Vance for-" "He has a date with Don-Don," Vance interrupts, mockingly using the nickname. "Oh," Robin says, backing off, it's known he and Donna are in a not relationship but it's still an annoyance to Robin when it's brought up.

"I'm sorry, I told him I'd cancel plans to help, but I couldn't just stand Donna up," "Oh, yeah cancel on her, she's fine," Robin comments and Finney rolls his eyes. "Finney don't, she doesn't deserve that," Billy intercepts, and Vance gives the look of 'dude, seriously? You're supposed to be on our side'

The four start to walk away from the rest of their teammates, heading into an empty classroom to talk more, since their teammates have already expressed their...liking towards Finney. Something they're all but fond of.

"So, Billy, could you tutor us instead?" Vance asks, trying to not make Finney cancel on his plans. "Yeah, of course, I won't be acting like a whore, unlike Finney-" "I offered it because they kept trying during the session and me and Donna were on a break and- it was one time," Finney interrupts Billy, and he gets an eye roll from the other. "You're still a bit of a whore-" "You're just mad that I've never fucked you," Finney interrupts, getting collective gasps from his friends.

"Have you no shame?" Robin asks, standing behind Billy now as if to shade himself from Finney's 'sins'

"I'll stop by after my date tonight, and-" "We aren't expecting favors, I solely asked for help with math, because you're good at it and you don't yell at us like Bruce," Vance interrupts, sliding an arm around Finney's shoulders. "And if you guys get back together, no favors, if you don't, no expectations still. I just know you like a safe haven and a... Distraction, if you will," Vance explains, and Robin agrees. Billy keeps his mouth shut, he's never engaged in Finney's antics long enough to be able to form an opinion. "I know neither of you expect anything,"

"So, stop by after your date, because I'd like to have a typical hangout. We haven't had one in what feels like years, mainly because me and Griffin have been... hanging out?" Billy says, in reality, it's been maybe a month, or two if you wanna round. "Oh, yeah, how's that going?" Vance asks, ever so curious about other people's love lives. "He's dating this Olivia girl, and I just don't wanna deal with another straight dude, so I'm gonna just distance myself from romantic talks and stuff," Billy replies, sighing a bit. "I get that, I'm glad you're setting better boundaries for yourself, I know your last relationship ended less than gracefully," Finney tells him, playfully punching his shoulder.

It's a bit awkward, serious talks have never been their strong suit.

"So about me having not fucked you yet-" Finney starts, smiling a bit. "WHORE!" Billy interrupts, pointing at him and apologizing to the teacher that ducks her head into the room to check on them. "Wasn't a no," Vance says, taking the small win for Finney.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-

Finney knocks on Robin's front door, getting muttered curses and a shouted 'one sec!' from inside the house. He laughs a little to himself at Robin's very obvious panic that it's someone other than him.

Which, if it's a typical study group, where he smokes, then fair enough.

"Hey- Finn?" "I told you I'd stop by?" "I thought you were lying, not gonna lie, but come in, come in!"

Once he's ushered inside the familiar home, he sees Billy and Vance on the couch, watching Riverdale. It's somehow very obvious this was Vance's choice.

"Did any of you study? At all?" Finney asks when Billy shies away a bit, an obvious tell he ignored his main responsibility. "No, not really," Robin replies, rubbing the back of his neck and smiling a bit awkwardly.

"Of course not, everyone up, let's go," Finney says, prying Vance up off the couch, while he lays like dead weight.

Once he gets all three at the table, he hands Vance and Robin their math homework for the week with a 'ask for help when needed' and then just sits next to Billy and talks to him.

Billy and he have similar grades, maybe a bit worse than Finneys, but still good grades. And he and Bruce get together weekly to study since he and Billy have that brotherly bond that Griffin and Vance used to have before their parents actually got together.

Finney kicks his legs up into Billy's lap, nodding along to whatever story Billy's telling this time, he loves listening to Billy talk. He's called Billy on multiple occasions when he had to sit down and do something he's been procrastinating on for white noise, soft with a slight rasp when you catch him right before bed or right after waking up.

Billy rests one of his hands on Finney's knees, subconsciously rubbing his thumb back and forth. He likes to talk with his hands so it's nice to see him calm down for a few minutes.

"I wish there was a word to describe liking the same gender, oh yeah, it's called being a faggot," Vance spits at the two, faking disgust before laughing and slapping Robin's knee like he just told the best joke in the history of the universe, and Robin just stares ahead blankly. "You're lucky I love you because god are you stupid," Robin says, sighing a bit.

Robin and Vance continue to quietly work on their assignments, while Finney and Billy graduate to different topics.

"What happened on your date?" Billy asks, curiosity would kill him if people didn't tell him things the second he asked. "She wants to keep up appearances, and I told her I wanted all or nothing, she said she needed time to think. So, we're still technically on that break," Finney replies, and Billy apologizes, saying he's sorry that his relationship is going through a few rocky moments right now.

Finney knows what he asked for was a bit ridiculous, they're still young.

"Hey, whatever is meant to happen, will happen, even if it takes a while," Billy tells him, straining himself to press a quick kiss to Finney's forehead. "I know, I'm just really impatient, and I- I'm rambling, I'm sorry," "You're fine, I like listening to you talk if that makes sense?" "It does,"

"FAGGOT," Vance shouts, and Robin scoots his chair back and makes a strangling motion like he's showcasing how to kill someone before he actually does it.

"YOU'RE LITERALLY FUCKING BOTH FINNEY AND ROBIN?" Billy exclaims, tightening his grip on Finney's knee so he doesn't stab Vance's eye out with the stray fork out on Robin's dining room table. "...I do not recall," Vance says, scratching his chest area and looking around. "My ass recalls," Finney comments, grateful Billy scooted the fork away from the two of them. "I fucked your mouth, not your ass, calm down," Vance tells him, waving him off.

"You ever girl boss too close to the sun and suddenly the FBI is at your door? No, Griff, no I don't," Billy says, looking at his phone before removing his hand from Finney's knee to type efficiently.

"...What?" Robin asks, confused.

"He's asking if he should be worried about the middle-aged man at his door, whose name is, apparently, Albert, and I told him to keep every window and door locked... And he's asking me to come over, I gotta go guys, I'll talk to you all later," Billy replies, babbling a bit.

He kisses Finney's hair after he stands up, going to the other side of the table to press a messy open-mouthed kiss to Vance's cheek, mostly to annoy him, and hugging Robin the best he can while Robin makes no effort to make his life easier, and kissing Robin's hair before grabbing the last of his stuff and leaving.

"He's weird, something's off about him, I think he's an alien, guys," Robin says the second Billy's out the door. And Vance smacks him ( gently ) upside the head, muttering something about him being a dumbass who needs to stop making up so many, dumb, conspiracy theories.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-

"Hey, sorry I dipped early last night," Billy says, walking up to the three that are standing with Finney at his locker. "You're fine! How was Griffin?" Finney asks, worried about the boy that hadn't attended school this morning. "A bit shaken up once he realized Albert was literally a homeless man on meth," Billy answers, running a hand through his hair.

Robin notices Billy needs to touch up his roots, the brown poking through is a very stark contrast against the shade of blond the man has been for a few years. He's good-looking either way, it's just an observation.

Vance could also do for a touch-up, he'll have to get the man to sit down in his bathroom for long enough for him to re-bleah the (violent one) bottle blond's hair.

"Also, I have another date with Donna the day after tomorrow, I'll let everyone know how it goes," Finney says before he shuts his locker and walks away.

He'll either do it over the phone or just storm over to one of their houses, hoping for at least one of them to be at that specific house, since tomorrow is Saturday. Which, by proxy, means his date is on Sunday.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-

Finney comes knocking on Billy's door, on Saturday, saying he just wanted to stop by, they both know it's a lie but who is he to deprive Finney of a safe haven for a few hours?

"Come in, come in," Billy ushers, stepping to the side and letting him inside. "Thanks," Finney mutters, stepping through the threshold that is Billy's home.

"Want something to eat?" Billy asks, he isn't really informed of much going on at Finney's home, mainly because if something happened, Finney will just show up and he doesn't press like Robin and Vance do.

And Finney would tell him if something serious was going on like if it got to the point home wasn't safe enough for habitation, he'd probably be the one to house Finney since his parents are one, rarely home, and two would ask the least questions.

Honestly, if they tried hard enough, they might not ever even know Finney's there.

"Yeah, please," Finney replies, smiling a bit, and hoisting himself up onto the island in Billy's kitchen.

"Okay, uhh, what would you like?" Billy asks, opening up the fridge and throwing out a few suggestions, nodding when Finney says one sounds good.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-

he didn't even make it in through the doors before he made the decision for Donna, they couldn't work anymore. It's been a long time coming, but co-dependency can drag you out.

He knows he should've gone inside the restaurant and at least, let her know in person, but when they made eye contact through the shop-type window it hit him like a ton of bricks.

This is why he's walking back to the house he'd just left, muttering to himself about how stupid this is, this gonna sound so stupid to Billy. They've all been...Well not rooting for them, but Billy at least tries the 'You guys have been together for so long', typically being interrupted by Vance and Robin with 'yeah too fucking long'.

Maybe their right, no they are right.

He only wanted to stick around so Gwen wouldn't feel awkward hanging out with Donna, but maybe that'll get Gwen to at least drop a hint that she likes Donna to the poor girl's face.

When he arrives, fist making contact with the wooden front door, someone answers rather quickly.

Billy hugs him, a quiet reply of 'I know' without either of them having to do so much as mutter a word. He's used to this happening with Robin, Robin knows him like he fucking created him. ( Excuse the french )

Finney pulls back when someone clears their throat behind Billy. "Hey, Griff," Finney greets, wiping away a few of the tears that fell. "Hey faggot " Griffin replies, coughing into his elbow. "Uh-huh, go to your date shithead," Billy says, pushing Griffin past the two and towards the boy's car. "I'm going, I'm going... use protection!" The boy calls out, using his hands like a microphone.

Finney stifles a laugh when he turns back to see Billy with his nose scrunched and his mouth downturned into a frown.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-

"We look stupid," Finney points out, looking at the two girls who are standing in front of the mirror in Donna's bathroom getting ready. "Elves always look stupid in the movies, though," Gwen replies, and she isn't wrong. "And you look great, plus you've worn worse," Donna comments, coughing to cover it up. "Can we please move on from last Halloween? Please?" "No," "Never,"

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-

"Your favorite has arrived!" Gwen announces, bells jingling on her shoes and hat when she walks. "Okay, so Gwen's an elf-" "Oh, Finney's here?!" Robin asks, interrupting Griffin and Billy who're trying to figure out who is going as what. Maybe the Blakes went as elves to be symbolic or something?

"Hey, sorry, I had to grab my purse from the car!" Donna calls out, coming up behind Gwen with audible bells jingling. Gwen pecks Donna's lips quickly before greeting her brother mere seconds later.
