Canto 1-10: That time I was reincarnated into another world and dealt with the [Elite Four]

I shook the dust off my hands and walked over to where the [Elite Four] lay. He groaned, most likely grateful of my mercy. I activated all of my magic [Skills] and began casting another spell.

"[Unslave]", I said, casting the highest level of anti-enchantment magic known the man. I hadn't really listened to his story, but it sounded like he was only following the Demon Lord because he had been brainwashed. I couldn't think of any reason that somebody would ever follow somebody who had been called evil by somebody I personally trusted. It was either that, or the fact that he himself was evil, but I had beaten him in a fight, and therefore he couldn't be evil anymore.

"There," I told him, smiling benevolently down at him as he leaned over and coughed up blood. "This will free you from the Demon Lord's grasp."

He looked weakly up at me, staring in confusion with his one good eye. "Wha? No, I told you, I ain't brainwashed, I'm followin' her because she--"

I interrupted him with a gentle curbstomp to the face, in case he was trying to sneak attack me with words or logic or violence. This was odd. The Demon Lord must have been much stronger than I suspected, if her brainwashing was able to resist a casting of [Unslave]. I'd better check in with Kamiko.

I fell to one knee as I reached up and activated my CODEC. I wobbled a bit, since my foot was still on Skeletony's cheek, but I was able to brace myself and called up my childhood friend and god, talking loudly over the Demon Lord's brainwashed lieutenant.

"Kamiko!" I said, "I beat the Demon Lord's lieutenant!"

I heard a girlish gasp and her transcendent shrieks of joy, echoed by a multitudinous host of archangels and attendants.

"That is so sugoi as heck, Hiro-kun~!" she said, fangirling over me, as was the correct response considering this was my first major victory as a big damn hero in this cool isekai gamelike world. I preened over the phone, where she couldn't see me except with her divine omniscience.

"Heh," I heh'ed, wiping under my nose with one finger as an autonomic reflex. "It was nothing. Just had to beat him up."

"No way, Hiro-san! It was super heckin' cool! (TL Note: super heckin' cool means 素す晴ばらしい) I can't believe you killed one of the [Demon Lord]'s [Minion]s [Already]!"

I did a nervous laugh and rubbed the back of my head as Skeletony gave me a thumbs up. It was a little different, but I guess these Isekai dirtworlders use their middle finger instead of their thumb. I gave him a regular thumbs up, because I didn't want to appropriate his (inferior, non-Japanese) culture.

"Um, actually, Kamiko, I didn't kill him. I was trying to use [Unslave] to remove the [Demon Lord]'s [Brainwashing], but it didn't work. Do you know why?"

The CODEC crackered, and Kamiko's tone grew serious on the other side.

"You wanna let him live, Hiro-chan? Strange. This outcome I did not foresee. But, why?"

I shrugged to myself. Why did I want to let him live? It would be a lot easier to let him die, but maybe it was because deep down, a part of me knew that killing was wrong, especially when the character had a name and cool tragic backstory.

"Killing is bad, Kamiko. People die when they are killed. I only want to kill if they're evil or look weird and not if they're just brainwashed."

"You have a noble spirit," Kamiko replied sagely. "Your goal is worthy, and I honor you for it. But are you certain that he's actually brainwashed?"

"Saaaa...." I saa'ed. "If he's not brainwashed, I guess I'll just fuckin' off him." I glanced down at Skeletony to appraise him again.

I nodded. That made sense to me. I lifted my hand and cast my spell again.

A light enveloped Skeletony again, and he gasped, giving me a trustworthy expression, his mouth drawn into a rictus grin as his eyes shifted back and forth wildly. "W-wow! Lookit that!" He said, "I'm back to normal. That Demon Lord lady, huh? What a bad, uh, bad guy."

I nodded to myself in satisfaction. Looks like I had won the encounter!

Suddenly, the [World System]'s voice echoed in my head!

Wow! It looks like when I leveled up, I also got fully healed, and all of my MP and SP was restored as well! I would have to keep this in mind! If I was ever in a tough fight and my HP was getting low, I could kill my enemy to heal instantly! I heard Kamiko's voice again, and thought that the [World System] was trying to tell me something else, but then realized that the voice was coming from my CODEC!

"Now that you've beaten one of the [Demon Lord]'s 40 [Elite Four], what are you going to do next?"

I rubbed my chin, looking down at the crippled form of Skeletony. He was the Demon Lord's lieutenant. She was able to rely on him to do her bidding. I might be able to some day beat the Demon Lord and get whatever fabulous prizes that entails, but as long as I was outnumbered, I would have a tough time ahead of me! I needed allies! Not just allies, but reliable allies. Allies who I could trust.

I smiled down at Skeletony, and walked towards him. Crouching down, I extended my hand, and shoved him over. He was laying on the thing I was after: My coupon for a [Doggirl Companion] that I had gotten when I first entered the kick-ass LITRPG Gamelike fantasy Isekai world. I must have dropped it in the fight.

I held the golden, glittering coupon up to the light. Soon, I would have my first comrade! And she would definitely be loyal, because according to this coupon, she'd be a [Slave]! Everybody knows that [Slaves] are the most loyal of comrades. In all the Isekai stories I read, the [Slaves] never left the side of their masters. There had to be a reason for that, and I could only assume it was because they were naturally trustworthy. I dusted off my pants and quickly activated [Instant Change (Outfit)].

My outfit changed from my generic cool Isekai Protagonist outfit to a snazzy three-piece suit. It may have been a bit too formal for this wretched hive of scum and villainy (TL note: phonetically read as: 'Adventurer's Guild'), but I wasn't gonna stick around for long. I had to get all dressed up, after all.
