《SSS-Rank Chaos Mage》3. New Quest

"This is an article from one of the top journals and it was released a few years back." Ella pointed to the first line on her phone that read 'Chaos Theory'. There were a few generic sentences at the top which she hurriedly scrolled down. Noah as well looked curiously. However, all they found were only redacted black blocks.
"Hmmm? This is odd." Ella pursed her lips.
"Meh. It's impossible to remove something from the internet once it is out. Give me. Let me look."
Noah tried using the word chaos in several different ways. He even used the word in different alternations like cha-os and ch-aos but oddly found nothing at all. "Hmmm. Let's just go back to that redacted article and see if we can guess the words based on the length." Ella suggested. Noah nodded and the two of them opened that tab again only to find that article missing too!
"What the hell?" Ella widened her eyes in shock.
Noah stared at the high-tech phone silently for a few seconds and then let out a small sigh. "Ok. Let's go. It's getting late."
"Huh? What happened? You don't want to ask the librarian about this? Maybe she will be able to pull something out?"
"I doubt it." Noah shook his head.
In the world where he came from, it is impossible to hide something like this and if it was still hidden, it meant that people in high places did not want others to look at it. So his only option in this case was to let it go.
"It's nothing serious. I simply asked because I heard someone on the bus talking about it. Anyways, I am hungry. Let's go."
"Ok." Ella quickly because she was also hungry. "So you'll really think about transferring to the engineering division?" She asked again.
"Yes, I will."
"Ok then." She flashed a big smile, looking very relieved.
What a good girl! Noah smiled as well and then unexpectedly the girl in front of him pounced on him and started pulling his cheeks to the two ends of the planet. "Fuck!" Noah cursed out loud. It really hurt!
"This is for making me worry!" Ella giggled and ran away.
"Monster." Noah smiled at the running away culprit and then turned around to return back to his room. The next second his smile disappeared. "System" He muttered under his breath calling out the interface again. Just because the library was a dead end, he was not planning on giving up so easily.
"There should be more information here." Noah looked at the status screen that popped up again and this time he clicked the flashing part.

"Hmmm?" Noah looked at the flashing information. This didn't answer any of his questions. Only gave him a lot more new ones to think about.

"So I do this task and become stronger?"
He walked into his dorm room, curiously looking inside. He had actually expected a couple more students to show up in his room by now as there were two additional beds in the small room, but there was no one else. "Maybe since I am a repeater, room allocations got mixed up?" He thought about it for a couple of seconds but quickly moved on to his other problem.
Why he didn't get a roommate was not even remotely on the top of his list. Noah looked around to see if there was any backpack or anything of that sort with some books in it. He had searched this room before too, but he did not find anything except for some cheap-looking clothes and a few sets of school uniforms. "Not a single book? What did this guy even do in this school?" Noah scratched his head. "Maybe I should just go back to the library and search there."
He stood up and opened the door to leave when unexpectedly someone else stood in front of him. It was a short, slightly healthy-looking fella. "Hi?"
"Yo! I guess you are my roommate then? I am Ron." The chubby guy barged in pushing Noah aside. He then took one look at the room and started tossing out Noah's things from the lower bunk bed. "I will be taking this. You take the upper one."
Noah frowned. However, he was in a hurry so he didn't want to bother with this right now. He once again turned to leave when Ron called after him. "Dude, where are you off to in such a hurry? Everything is closed now. It is late."
"Oh?"
"Hey Hey! Do you maybe know of a canteen that's open at night?"
"No?" Noah scratched his head. If he knew that everything was going to close, he would have gone sooner.
"Tsk. Tsk. That sucks." Ron clicked his tongue and then shoddily emptied his bag out on the floor, taking out his stuff and haphazardly shoving them inside the shelf that was next to him. He had already lost interest in Noah and was doing his own thing. He emptied out his three bags in less than a minute and then opened his fourth bag, out of which a big chips packet fell out.
This one looked like it was filled to the brim with snacks but Ron reached into it and pulled out a couple of books. "Spellbooks?" Noah expectantly looked, only to see that they were magazines with well-endowed naked women on the cover. 'Big titties' was the first one's title and 'Hot MILFs' was the second one's title. Noah's lips twitched as he watched the guy jump onto the bed with these two books, the packet of chips, and a sincere studious look on his face.

"Ron, do you have any textbooks?" Noah looked at the guy up and down and then at the shelf that was like a heap of rubbish. He could see a couple more books stashed inside though he couldn't tell what category they would belong to. Seeing the guy, he wouldn't be too surprised if these were also under the entertainment category.
"Ya. They are there. Help yourself." Ron muttered absentmindedly, his face still buried in his special books.
Noah smiled and walked over to take a look. Luckily, they were indeed textbooks. One was 'Mana Theory' and the other was a history book. "You don't have anything else?" Noah frowned.
"What? Dude! You are disturbing me!" Ron scowled. "No, why are you asking me about textbooks? All our courses are online. Those two are something my dad shoved into my bags."
"Right. Right." Noah smiled bitterly. He needed to really get one of these phones. But for now… he started turning the pages to see if there was by chance anything about magic spells in these two. He sat down on the chair next to the bunk beds and turned the pages of the book end to end. The first one 'mana theory' only talked about mana usage, mana circulation, physical enhancement using mana, and mana core formation. There wasn't anything about spells per se.
"Hmmm…" Noah put the book down and took the other unlikely one next. It didn't look like there would be any spells in a history book. Still, he looked anyways and surprisingly his efforts did not go to waste. There, near the end section of the book, the author talked about the evolution of magic circles using an example of a tier 3 spell.
Fire tentacles.
"Oh! So this is a magic circle?" Noah's eyes widened as he keenly paid attention to the circle and the complicated patterns and archaic circles written around the circle. He suddenly felt cheated. Even though he finally found a magic spell, it was too complicated for him to learn. "I guess I should start with tier 0 spells?" He stared at the mish-mash of strange patterns. "Yup, there is no point in trying to memorize this." He decided and took his hand to flip to the next page when unexpectedly a notification popped up.

Once again, something was flashing in front of him. Noah opened and closed his mouth speechlessly staring at these pop-ups. "This is what they meant by learning?" He scratched his head and looked confused. The next second, he accepted it and moved on, clicking the new quest available. He didn't want to get bogged down by these details. He wanted to get to the bottom of this system thing.

[Ding. Reward: 100 experience points]
"Huh? The same quest again?" Noah frowned. He then quickly flitted through the pages of the book again to see if there was by chance another spell. "Come on. Come on. Daddy needs one more circle!" His eyes looked out for the familiar circle as he went through the dozens of pages. As it was a history book, the thing was quite thick. But soon, he did stumble onto another spell and this time it was a tier 5 spell to boot.
Earthquake!
Noah had a strange feeling as soon as he saw this circle. It was intimidating. It was domineering. He didn't think that something scribbled on a book could have this sort of effect. It was as if he was staring into something far greater than what was presented on the mere sheets of the book.
"What the hell?" He gulped. He closed his eyes, shook his head, and looked at the damn thing again. If the earlier tier 3 spell was complicated, then this could only be called a complete mess. The entire thing was in utter chaos. There were probably millions of small details etched on this single circle.
Forget about him, how could anyone learn such a thing?! It was simply humanly impossible! He stared at the thing for a few more minutes, staring at it as if he was admiring a beautiful painting. It might as well be one for him. There was no way he was going to be able to learn it and the notification as well probably won't pop out. Nevertheless, he looked at it from top to bottom once and was about to turn the page when once again the familiar notification chimed in.

Noah gulped. Just what in the name of hell was going on? Even if there was a system and in some twisted magical way he was able to level up and such, how could it be so easy? This was what Noah was worried about the most. Back in his world, there was no such thing as a free lunch and he was pretty sure, there wasn't any here too.
So he would feel a lot more at ease if things were actually a bit more difficult and not this easy because if they were really this easy, then the price he might have to pay for them might be… He let out a deep breath and once again opened the new quest that was now available.

The Silver Mana - Book 1: Initiate
I used to be a healthy, young guy with a normal life - I had a career planned in professional soccer, a girlfriend, lots of hobbies, and loads of fun. Until the accident. Which changed my life. A few years later I had adjusted to my new reality, adjusted to being in a wheelchair, adjusted to having someone take care of me 24/7. And then the world changed. Old people and kids did not make it. And neither was I supposed to make it. But never count me out. If anything, I am tenacious. This new world was different. People could do magic. And there were monsters. And what about me? I had mana as well, silver mana. Which no one else seemed to have. The only problem was, I did not know what to do with it. Until I really needed to. Author's note: This is the rewrite of Silver Mana. The first bunch of chapters (until I will have caught up to level 2 of the dungeon) should be quite familiar to people that have read the original. There are some changes in content, but the story follows the original fairly closely for at least the first 150-200 pages. Most of the changes are in the writing, and some of the details of how things work. A few of the side characters get a bit more attention too. Some general comments to avoid disappointment: 1. The MC likes to swear. If you object to reading the word "fuck" at least once and usually multiple times each chapter don't read the book. "Fuck" is such a great, allencompassing word... fuck that; what the fuck?; fuck me! Fuck! one word, expressing so many nuances. And, frankly, the people I know that use fuck as a swear word.. they often use it a lot. 2. If you are looking for immediate progression, rapid advancement of the story, etc.... read another book. This one takes a bit. 3. I am NOT Pirateaba (who is writing The Wandering Inn) or anyone close to that level of productivity. If you expect to read 10k words every 3 days, or even just once a week... sorry. I've got a busy life. This is for fun, I have no patreon, paypal, anything, so I write when it is fun and however much is fun. Not more. And sometimes that turns out to be a decent amount, sometimes nothing. I have another book (Marrow) so that complicated things - basically I switch between the two whenever the muse strikes me.
