《Runaway》Epilogue

5 years later

"Hudson, have you seen Anna's binky?" I shout from our baby's nursery floor as I check under the crib. After three easy babies, Anna was born, and she's been a little terror. Crying over a stolen stuffy, or when Ruth decides it's her turn to play with the blocks, it's all hands on deck! Anna will wail until there's no tomorrow unless I can get her binky in her mouth.

However, after our recent move to the new house, the binky has been alluding us, and it's just about time for one of her sisters to stir up some mayhem.

"Hudson, did you find it?" I yell again when he doesn't answer.

"Mommy, what are you doing on the floor?" Bella and Sarah ask from the doorway. They are our firsts, twins, each looking more and more alike by the day. Sometimes I forget who is who and end up calling them 'girls.'

"Daddy, mommy's on the ground!" Sarah yells.

I can't help but laugh as I hear boxes crashing to the ground downstairs. Hudson rushes up the stairs and bursts into the nursery. His eyes are frantic before they find me on the rug in the middle of the room, holding back a laugh.

"See, daddy." Bella points at me.

"Thank you, girls." I think he's also having a hard time telling them apart. We tried dressing them in different outfits, but they'd refuse to leave the house. "Why don't you go check your's and Ruth's bedroom for Anna's binky?"

"Okay!" They say in unison before they dart out of the room.

Hudson stands over me. I can't hold it back anymore and start laughing hysterically.

"Well, I'm glad one of us is having a good time." He glares down at me, but I can see the teasing in his eyes. "It's your turn to soothe our daughter until the illusive binky is found."

"Okay," I try and smother my laughter. "Help me up?"

Hudson bends down and pulls me up in one fluid motion. He instinctively puts his hand on my belly as he gazes at me lovingly. I'm not showing too much yet, but I think the girls already have an inkling.

"How's my son doing?" He kneels, pulls up my shirt and kisses my stomach.

"How do you know it's a boy?" I cross my arms over my swollen breasts and raise my brow. "It might as well be another girl. We do have four of them, after all."

"No, this is definitely a boy. A man just knows these things." I let out a little laugh but let him have his moment. He's said the same thing about my last two pregnancies but alas, more girls.

He stands up and pulls me in for a gentle kiss. "We should keep looking for that binky."

"Right," I say, a little breathless. After five years, I still can't believe this man is mine. "Can you check the windowsill?"

Anna's nursery has a little bay window that looks out onto the water. I've already taken to sitting there as I nurse her.

Hudson walks over to the window and searches under one of the many pillows I've picked out to decorate with. I try to school my features as he lifts the pillows and finds a little envelope with his name on it.

"What's this?" He picks it up and walks over to me. "I didn't forget our anniversary, did I?"

"Nope," I shake my head, trying to reel in my giddiness. "It's a little something for the both of us."

Hudson gives me a little look and shakes his head slightly before opening the white envelope and pulling out the ultrasound. I asked the technician to write down if it was a girl or boy and pin it to the photos.

"What does it say?" I grab his forearm and pull his hand down so I can see.

"It's a boy." He clears his throat, and I look up to see his eyes glistening with tears.

The End.
