y/n's pov *

i woke up with a little more pep in my step. the success of yesterday's streams fueled excitement within me. i wasn't just talking about dream's manhunt stream either. later that afternoon i had streamed my speedruns like i usually did, and the response had been out of this world. my audience had grown so much in the span of two days. i still couldn't believe it even as i was watching it unfold right before my eyes.

clay had made another appearance in my stream too. a ten dollar donation notification had popped up on my screen as i was speed-bridging over the void to fight the dragon.

your sugar daddy is back ;))

i had sputtered out a response, misclicked, and then fallen, no way to save myself as i plummeted into the abyss and failed my run, which had been going really well up until that moment.

i had yelled at him later when we called again, so amends had been made to at least some degree. he thought he was funny, that's for sure. to be honest, i did too. i didn't think i could have actually gotten mad at him even if i tried. he was too damn likeable and his laugh was too damn contagious.

we exchanged phone numbers last night too, so now i had the power to annoy him on at least three different platforms. we had been playing eight ball last night. it was still his turn....

i shook thoughts of last night out of my head and slid into my slippers to walk around my cold apartment. i brewed coffee and did a load of laundry all while jamming to music. i got a notification that dream had started streaming and opened it up on my desktop so i could tune in while i cleaned.

he was speedrunning. even though it was something that i did almost every week, i still never got bored watching him. maybe it was just because of his commentary, but i really enjoyed his content.

about thirty minutes into the stream, i sat down in my desk chair to take a break. i quirked a brow as i watched him get engrossed in the game and got out my credit card to send in a donation.

RESPOND TO MY EIGHT BALL MF

"OH MY GOD!" he laughed as the message went though, "okay, okay! one sec chat..." his minecraft character stopped moving for about a minute.

i could hear him giggling quietly. when he finally sent his turn, a big red X popped up on my screen. "YOU LOST!" the text read.

"you're joking!" i said to myself, and furiously sent him another donation.

YOU DID THAT IN ONE GO?? YOU'RE A PSYCHOPATH

he wheezed hard. "YOU SHOULD HAVE LET ME FORGET WE WERE PLAYING!"

i shook my head, cracking up. well, i was ten dollars poorer and had lost my lead in our little games. i'd catch up again soon enough. i was no loser.

a couple hours after dream stopped streaming, i got a text from him.

a second later, he answered.

"hi!" he greeted me. the way he said it made me smile, and i completely forgot the forced feelings of contempt for him i had moments before.

"hi!" i responded, "what's up with you..? you just decided you wanted to casually play survival minecraft?"

"well... yeah actually. i guess i haven't played it in a while, and now i want to."

"weirdo," i laughed. "do you know how to build? i heard you don't even have a house on your own server, clay."

"i— i have a house!" he said defensively.

"cool story bro. now send me a picture of it. right now."

"wha— no! it's not done yet!"

"oh i'm sure dream.."

"okay—"

after bickering for a little longer, we spawned into a brand new minecraft world together in the middle of a plains biome that was bordered by a desert. we walked around gathering resources and exploring the terrain.

"hey, a village!" i pointed out.

"that was fast. there's a lava pool too! why can't my speedrun seeds ever be this good?" he complained.

i entered the blacksmith building. "cause you don't have my amazing luck usually. there's diamonds in this chest, by the way."

"seriously?"

"yeah."

"can i have one?" he asked softly.

i sighed, and dropped one for him. "are you just gonna make a spoon?"

"a spoon?"

"yeah— oh, no wait. a shovel," i corrected, facepalming.

he chuckled. "yeah, i'll make a spoon. we should build a dirt mansion."

"the first house you build in this game cannot be made out of dirt, clay."

"it's not my first house! i—" he cut himself off with a gasp.

"what? what's wrong?"

"there's a cat! and she looks just like patches! get me fish right now!

"but—"

"get me a fish!" he said loud into his mic, punching my character off the hill we had been standing on and into the river.

i sighed and killed salmon, getting flashbacks to what happened the last time i did this, and gave them to clay, who tamed the patches cat and then passed the leftovers to me to tame my own cat, who i named sam as an homage the fish that i had previously owned. that and i was really uncreative with names.

clay and i didn't really have any priorities when it came to playing the game since we were both so used to speedrunning it. even though we had a couple goals we wanted to accomplish, we were so scatterbrained. eventually though, we got on with ticking off the boxes on our list.

for the next two hours we grinded away at building what was essentially a two story square box by the time we were done. the exterior was a mix of oak planks and dirt because we kept running out of logs, but it had its charms. there were flowerboxes beneath the windows, and the roof was slightly asymmetrical because apparently neither of us could figure out how to get it right. the entire right wall on the second floor was made of glass so we could watch the sun set. our cats were sitting next to each other on a perch i had built, and our chests were scattered around and stacked into the corners with no particular organization.

admittedly, it was ugly. but we were proud.

"Y/N, GET IN THE HOUSE!" clay shouted, "CREEPERS ARE SPAWNING!"

"okay, okay!" i ran up the stairs after him. "aw, we finally get to sleep inside."

he placed his bed on the wall opposite of the giant window. the sun had just gotten low enough in the sky to sleep.

i hesitated, but placed my bed next to his and hopped in.

i heard him laugh under his breath and then the clicking of his keyboard as he typed.

: ;)

"oh my god, shut up!" i laughed, "you're actually so immature."

he laughed too. a comfortable silence filled the air as we watched the minecraft sunset fade into oranges and pinks. there was a calmness to just being with him, conversation or not, and i revelled in it. a warmth bloomed in my chest as i listened to the faint sound of his deep sigh, and in that moment i knew he felt exactly the same way i did.
