《Softer Than Lavender (Boy×Boy)》This is the moment

Dear Grayson's old Diary,

It's been at least two years since I've opened your pages. I never thought I would need to write again after Drew and I got our first apartment together. This book was supposed to help me cope with my feelings, but I felt content with how everything was going so I taped it shut and threw it in the closet. But now I feel like I need it again. I made an important purchase. I had something specially carved. It's a ring and a ring box. The ring has a dark wooden band, and carved into it is lavender fluttering in the wind. On the box it says, "To the boy with eyes like the moon." And when you open it, it has, "I love you," engraved on the inside. I am going to ask him to marry me tonight. I know we're young and this sounds insane, but every part of me wants this more than anything else in the world. My friend Jacob told me he would roll the camera while I probably make a massive fool of myself. I don't know what I would do without my friend's and family's approval. I wish my mother were here to see this happen. I can only hope that she is now looking down with pride, or that she at least knows that she left me with the joy of knowing that Drew was loved as family. As for my father, he and my buddy Jacob will be joining us for a picnic in the park where the lavender grows abundantly. Wish me luck.

Drew dug through the Tupperware and selected 6 unbreaded chicken nuggets. "It's sweet how well your dad knows me at this point."

Greysons dad smiled and winked at Greyson. "Of course, I better know you well after packing all of your shit on that move... hoarder."

Drew snorted and looked down shielding his eyes jokingly. "I said I was sorry! I didn't plan on catching the flu."

"I had to personally fold your underwear. I will never get the image of those lacy..." Drew spit out a nugget.

"Oh my God, Greyson! I told you to pack my personal belongings separately so your dad didn't see!" He slapped him across the arm.

"Oh it's fine. There’s always bleach or some of those prosthetic eyes. That wasn't even the worse thing I had to handle."

"Pardon me while I crawl deeper into the pits of hell." Greyson buried his face in his hands and crossed his eyes out of stress.

"Ok guys, get ready for a family photo!" Jacob got up off the ground and got out his phone. Greyson took a deep breath and brushed off his boots checking to make sure his appearance remained put together.

Drew attempted to whisper against the breeze. "You look like a sexy cowboy right now, all this for picnic photos?"

He brushed a nugget crumb off of his bluejeans and did a quick breath check in his hand. "No, for you."

"Ok I want everyone to stand up and face the camera, Drew you look great, Mr. Liaison stand by your son. Excellent. Ok on 3... 2... 1..."

Greyson looked over to Drew and dropped down onto one knee awkwardly sticking his hand into his boot and grabbing onto the box. "Just so you know, I'm not just being weird and itching my foot on camera. The box just kept sliding further into my boot. "

Drew's eyes went wide and he glanced over to Greyson's father and back down to Greyson who winked. "I know this is really random timing and we're at a public park in the middle of Tennessee on a monday, all of which are not your favorite things, but this will all make sense in a minute."

Drew knocked twice on his hip bone and swayed back and forth anxiously waiting for Greyson to reveal his intentions. "Continue, I like where this is going."

Greyson's dad laughed and tears immediately began cascading down his face. He looked over to his son and nodded for him to continue his planned monologue.

"I've never told you this but we're standing in one of the most important places in the world. Twenty three years ago today, my father was kneeling in approximately this same spot with my mother... except she was pregnant and clearly you aren't... I hope." Drew giggled and wiped away a fallen tear.

"Grey, I don't even have a womb. How would I explain a surprise pregnancy to my family?" Greyson's dad snorted. "Yeah, tell me about it."

Greyson smiled upward and took Drew's hand causing him to lose his composure. "Oh there it is, that face you make when you are overwhelmed in a good way. I knew I would get one of the two."

Drew blushed and wiped his face on his sleeve. "Are you going to ask me what I think you're going to ask?"

Greyson opened up the ring box and slipped it on Drew's finger. "Only if I get to take your last name. I want to be Mr. Greyson Cavalry."

"Aww no fair I always thought Liaison sounded bad ass!" Greyson's father chuckled and ran over to hug the guys.

"Drew Greyson's right, you don't look like a future Dr. Liaison. You will be a dr. right?" He looked to Greyson for backup but got nothing. "I should have taken your mother's name. She asked me to. Mr. Voskoboeva has a better ring to it."

Drew rubbed his hand over his new ring. "I'm happy just to have a name I can spell, and to share it with my favorite person in the entire universe."

Jacob stopped the video and everyone sat back down. "Grey, I just want you to know that I've never been so proud of you and so happy in my entire life and I hope you know your mother would have felt the same way. You didn't know this but she wrote you a note three weeks before she passed."

He handed a paper over to Greyson and a tear fell onto his shirt. "She told me to wait for this moment, It was hard hiding it for the past 8 months." Greyson slowly unfolded the paper.

My dearest Greyson,

So I guess it's finally that time. I'm so sorry I won't be there to experience this with you as I had always wanted. It was devastating to find out that I have less than 6 months before my cancer takes over my body, and that I will never get to watch your father walk Drew the aisle like you planned. I know I wasn't always the mother I should have been but I want you to know that I'll be watching over you and your groom for all of eternity and I will be saving you both the best seats in heaven right next to me. I give you my warmest blessings.

To forever,

- Momma

Greyson and Drew wrapped their arms around each other and sat in a silent bliss as everything around them faded away. The whole world stopped just for them.
