...You were walking down a path. It was dark. Silence filled the world around you. You couldn't see anything. You just kept walking forward. You couldn't smell anything either...
Suddenly you saw something in front of you. A teddy bear? You picked it up. It was a normal teddy bear. You kept walking forward holding the bear. Then you saw a robot in front of you. You picked it up. Still walking forward. What's this smell?? Why do you smell milk?
Before you had the chance to think about the answer the sudden force interrupted you. It feels like gravity got a million times stronger. You fell harshly and dropped the toys. You tried getting up but no avail. The most you could do was push yourself up by your elbows laying on your back. Your breathing and pulse got faster. What's happening? Your eyes widened as you saw toys start walking in front of you. The ground felt softer. No, this isn't the ground. You looked down. You were on a king sized bed. You still couldn't move a single inch.
Your eyes searched for the toys again but you couldn't find them anywhere. Your head snaps in every direction until you hear a thud. Where's that sound coming from? There's nothing around me except... You slowly glance toward the ground in front of you. There's a huge crack on the path. The thudding continues and the crack starts getting bigger and bigger. You panic trying to move but some force is holding you down. Sweat drops were running down your face. You were scared.
Out of nowhere a huge metal hand came out of the crack. It was the robot you picked up. But next to him was the teddy bear. You stopped breathing. They were at least twice your size. They came out of the crack as you tried moving. You still couldn't do nothing. They slowly headed towards you, tears running down your face. Suddenly something white started coming out of their eyes, ears and mouth like blood. It was milk... You screamed trying to get away. No avail.
As the milk was pouring out of them they were getting closer and closer until you felt a pair of arms wrap around your stomach. They were human hands. You were pushed back and put into that person's lap. Your back was pressed against that person's chest. You still can't move. You were paralyzed.
"Everything is alright Y/n... There's no need to be scared" Whose voice is that? One hand that was around your stomach moved to hold your face carresing it softly. The other one held you tightly around your waist.
"W-who are you? P-Please l-let me go..."you mumbled weakly to the person. He was obviously a man, a huge one at that. You almost forgot about the toys, sheer panic washing over you. You felt relieved they were gone when your eyes set forward.
The man was still holding you tight. You were still scared. You tried moving your head to see who it is, but he was holding your face to strongly. You could only see forward. You yelped when he put his face between your neck and shoulders.
"It's alright Y/n, I will protect you, just like I did back then..."he replied softly. Back then? Back when? Who is this person? "C-Can you let me go? Please..."you didn't like being held like this. It didn't feel right it felt really weird actually. He softly chuckled. "No, I love holding you like this... Just like I did that day..."the tone of his voice got deeper. You tried and tried moving but he was too strong. Why can't I use my cursed techinque? I have to get away.

"How could you forget me Y/n? I could never forget you..."the man said dryly. "N-No I don't k-know you..."
The man was about to reply when you felt a strong slap across your cheek and your eyes shot open.
"Alright, RISE AND SHINE Sleeping beauty!!"you groan loudly. You tried putting the blanket over your head but Chihiro-san took it off of you. "Come on now up, up, up!"she cheers happily as you hug yourself trying to keep warm."Chihiro-san... please just... five... more... hours..."you sleepily plead. You hear Chihiro-san chuckle beside you. "Now now get your stuff ready, I got breakfast for you!"the smell of rice, eggs and bacon suround you. Chihiro-san showed you a bowl full of rice with two eggs on top making eyes and a bacon so it looks like a smile. You giggle softly at the sight. "Look you got porridge!! And it's happy to see you!" This is one of the reasons why you love Chihiro-san. She can always make your day bright with simple things like these.
"Am I late?"you reply rubbing your eyes as you sit on the bed. "No time for talking, dear, now remember this is your first day at a new place and school, listen to your teacher and no fighting, play nice with the other kids unless, of course, one of the other kids wants to fight then you have to kick the other kid's butt."she says all of that as she gives you spoons of porridge. "But I don't wanna kick the other kid's butt."you reply. "Don't talk with your mouth full. Now let's see your fighting face!" You just stare at her blankly. "Oh I think my bunny slippers just ran for cover... Well I guess you will get it after some experience..."you chuckle when you finish the porridge and go to the bathroom.
You finish your morning routine as Chihiro-san does the dishes and gets your stuff ready. When you are done it's 7.30 so you will make it on time because it takes you fifteen minutes to get to the bus station. You got everything prepared and ready to leave. Taking maybe the last glance at the house you called home. You slowly exited with Chihiro-san and locked up the house. When you leave your yard pulling your suitcase and backpack you stop next to Chihiro-san.
"Is something wrong Y/n?"she asked looking at you. "No it's just... I'm really going to miss all of you... I can't help but think that this is a bad idea after all..."curse your overthinking. It's a very bad part of you. Just as much you can think of a positive thought you can easily think of the worst one as well. Chihiro-san smiled softly at you. "It's normal to think like that dear... Go or come back, quit - don't quit, noodles - don't noodles, you are way too concerned with what was and what will be... There is a saying - yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift... That's why it is called the present..."(You smiled warmly at the older lady. You quickly hug her tightly. She returns the gesture and softly pats your head. "You'll be fine Y/n... I believe in everything that I told you... There is no curse that can stop you."you didn't want to let go but you knew you had to. "I will come visit once in a while of course... If I...decide to...come back for good is there anything you want me to bring home?"you ask. "If you ask me you should bring home a man!"your eyes widened and your face got red from embarassment. "C-Chihiro-san that's not what I meant!!!"you answer letting go of the lady. She laughed happily at you. "Now go go you don't wanna be late!"she pushes you towards your way. "Okay okay please take care of yourself Chihiro-san!"you say as you start walking away from her with your stuff. You were still waving at her even though you were far away. When you couldn't see her anymore you turned and continued walking towards the station.

You waved goodbye to some people you met on the way.
On your way you smelled someone familiar. You started walking towards the smell and then...
"Ooooi, where are the stores and restaurants?!?!!?"you hear someone yell. You chuckle softly and pat the shoulder of the girl. "I'm sorry Kugisaki but there aren't that many stores in the village and we don't have the time either..."she turns around looking at you. "Tch, how did you survive in this village L/n-san?? I'd die before puberty here!!"she replies. "Ahhahah I see where you're coming from... But no matter what this is my home and besides I think you don't need expensive clothes Kugisaki, you are a very beautiful girl after all..."you smile brightly as she blushes at your words. "T-Thank you L/n-san..."she hides her face from you as you walk towards the bus stop.
"Y/n is just fine..."you offer warmly. Kugisaki slowly looks at you as her smile widens. "Ah no, you can call me Nobara too..."she replies happily.
You made light conversation about your village and Tokyo. Nobara enjoyed talking to you about all the stuff she does in Tokyo, from shopping to training and Maki-san. You were listening carefully and even promised to go shopping with her once you arrive at the school.
It was 7.55 when you made it to the bus stop. "Hello Megumi-kun and Yuji-kun!"you waved at them. They greeted you back. To say you were nervous would be an understatement. But you were excited to. New people to meet, places to see, food to eat, jobs to do.... From what you understood you were a first year even tho you were slightly older than the rest of the third years
You didn't mind tho, you really liked the rest of your class and you couldn't wait to make new memories together. Oh yea, Gojo-san will be my teacher now! He seems like a fun teacher so it can't be bad right? Then... Should I call him Gojo-sensei now?? I probably should but I'm not sure... And Chihiro-san did say to be careful around-
"Sorry to keep you all waiting!!" A loud voice interrupted your train of thoughts. It's Gojo-san! "Where were you Sensei?"Yuji asked. "Just finishing some stuff around here. Aaaand hello Y/n!! Happy to see you decided to come with us!"Gojo said happily. "Thank you for having me Gojo-san! But I told you alre-" "Of course, everyone is delighted because of a new member!" He interrupted you again. Did he not say that we met last night?? I should ask him that later. You made a note to remember.
Finally the bus arrived. "Heeeey! I'm sitting next to Y/n!!" Nobara proclaimed loudly. "Eeh no fair!! I wanted to sit next to her..."Yuji replied sadly. Even Megumi was a little disappointed tho he didn't show it. Gojo just smiled softly. He ignored the stinging feeling in his chest. He was happy you were getting along with his students. Oh wait, you were his student now. He shouldn't forget to ask you those questions.
During the bus ride you talked with Nobara mostly. After an hour you made it to the train station.(
"Okaaay we need to take train 707 to Tokyo in 5 minutes..."Gojo informed all of us. Yuji noticed how you were rubbing your hands together. "Are you ok Y/n?"he asked worriedly. You glanced towards him and smiled softly, even tho you were sweating a little bit. "Yea yea it's just... I've never been on a train before so I'm nervous a little bit..."you replied quickly. You were nervous but not because of the train. You sensed a lotta different things form small curses, to people and even the train itself was weird. You didn't question it tho. "Whaaat?? You were never on a train before?!"screamed Nobara and Yuji at the same time. "Ahahha yea I never actually left the village so..."the sound of a woman's voice startled you. "Dear passengers please step behind the line to enter the train." Line? What line? There were at least 10 lines here. "Oii I'm sitting next to Y/n on this rideee!" Gojo-san declared. "Noo!"Nobara pouted slightly.
Suddenly a crowd of people started walking in one direction. You panicked and stepped closer to Gojo-san. He noticed you and softly took your hand in his. "It's okay Y/n, you'll be fine, just stay close to me" you relaxed and squeezed his hand a little bit. He sure has big hands. Gojo pulled you by hand to the door of the train. You entered with the rest of the crowd. "Y/n you can sit next to the window, the view will be amazing!"Gojo said and you sat next to the window. He quickly checked the rest of the group and they were all fine sitting together at the three seat space.
The train started moving. Maybe he could ask you something while you were separated from the group. "Woaahh the train is so fast! And the view really is beautiful!!"he snapped his head towards you when you said that. He squeezed your hand subconsciously. Through the reflection on the window he could see your sparkling and intrigued eyes, your wide bright smile as you gazed at the scenery. The lovely feeling from yesterday came back and Gojo didn't know what to think about it. His breathing stopped when you turned around to face him. "Gojo-san thank you but I'm okay now you can let go of my hand!"you reassured him. Gojo didn't realise he was still holding your hand. He let go of your hand slowly. "Glad to hear that! And yeah the view really is beautiful..." he wasn't sure if he was talking about the scenery or you.
You returned to watching the scenery. You absolutely loved it. Through the ride you were commenting on everything you saw. You sounded so happy Gojo didn't have the heart to interrupt you only agreeing to everything you say.
When you arrived at your final stop. You all gathered together and exited the train station.
W-what is this?? Why is it so bright even tho it's the middle of the day?? Has Tokyo always been this advanced?? I mean I knew it was but to this amount!! There are so many people, curses too! So many scents! What's this aura??Okay calm down Y/n, calm down your senses...
You were slowly following the rest of the group forward. The more you walked the more people were around you. You didn't know what to do. You were getting dizzy, you had to steady yourself. You took a hold of Gojo-san's uniform with both of your hands, stopping him. Smiling Gojo looked towards you but his face dropped when he saw your state. You were pale, sweating slightly and trembling.
"Hey hey Y/n are you alright?"Gojo took a hold of you. Yuji, Nobara and Megumi were all worried asking you many questions, you didn't hear half of them. You held on Gojo for dear life. "I-I'm fine I just... need to sit down..."you managed to mumble quietly. Gojo lead you to the nearest bench and you sat down, already feeling a little bit better. "I-I'm sorry, it's just Tokyo... sure has a strong aura..."you calmed down your breathing. "What aura Y/n? What do you mean?"Megumi asked confused. Well, you had to tell them sooner or later right? You didn't plan on keeping it a secret anyway.
"Well to put it simply... You and I, we don't sense or see the world in the same way. I was born with a different sense of smell. I can sense how strong someone is not just curses but people too. I can also sense who they are their emotions mostly. Each person or a curse has a unique scent and I know who they are without looking at them.So in the village there aren't many curses or people so the aura is pretty weak, but God in Tokyo it's... overwhelming... There are so many scents and creatures. It got a little too much for me but I can get used it. I'm sorry for being a trouble like this..."you apologised sincerely.
All of them were quiet for a moment. You couldn't look them in the eye. "T-that's... That's so coool!!"Nobara and Yuji yelled in unison. "T-thank you??"you said tilting your head a little bit. "Hey hey Y/n what do I smell like??"Yuji asked. You were about to answer but Nobara interrupted you "That's a rude question to ask!"she scolded him. They started arguing again and you couldn't help but laugh at them. Megumi just sighed at them.
Gojo suddenly patted your head. "It's fine Y/n, no matter what you are, everyone will accept you here!"Megumi agreed with him. You smiled brightly at the tall man. "Thank you Gojo-san..."you replied and got up. "I'm fine now we can continue!"even tho you said that again you held onto Gojo-san's uniform just in case. He doesn't seem to mind so it's okay right? You thought as you walked together.
Meanwhile Gojo held his entire back so he doesn't take your hand in his. He glanced a couple of times to check on you just in case. He didn't like seeing you in that state and he was relieved you got better quickly.
Finally after some walking you made it to the school. Y/n's mouth was open when she saw the school. "It's hugeee!! It looks so coool!"you said loudly looking around yourself. "Indeed it is! We will show you around tomorrow, for now you should rest in your dorm!"Gojo replied. "Yea Y/n you had a long day you should rest for some time!"Yuji added and Nobara and Megumi agreed. "Thank you for worrying about me everyone... Okay I will rest if you think I should!" You smiled brightly at the group. Everyone felt warm when you thanked them.
"Okay I will take miss Y/n to her room and the rest of you are dismissed!"Gojo informed. We were all tired from the trip so it was nice we had time to relax. "Oh wait!"you said as you opened your backpack. You took out three bags and handed them to Nobara, Megumi and Yuji. "It's not much but I hope you will enjoy them!" When they opened the bags inside were different snacks and cookies and cupcakes. All of them blushed and thanked you again. Gojo noticed you were spoiling them with sweets ever since you met them. He chuckled slightly at that.
You waved goodbye to them as you made it to your new room. Oh nice everyone is close to each other! "Alrighty miss Y/n welcome to your new home!!" Gojo said happily as he showed you your room. It was a simppe room with a small kitchen, a bathroom, bed, wardrobe and a table. "It's perfect!!"you said excitedly and put the bags on the bed.
While you were unpacking you didn't notice Gojo locked the door. "Do you need help with unpacking Y/n??" Gojo asked. "No it's fine I can manage it's not a lot of stuff anyway! Oh yeah!" You opened the backpack again and took another bag. You handed it to Gojo-san. "Thank you for taking care of me Gojo-san! I look forward to new memories we will make together with everyone!" You bowed slightly with a smile on your face. Gojo opened the bag and saw a bunch of fresh kikufukus in the bag. He smiled widely. "Of course Y/n! I swear you are spoiling us a lot with sweets! Not that I mind really..."you blushed slightly at his comment. It was a bad habbit of yours to make sweets for everyone. You can't help it. Gojo was munching on kikufuku while you were unpacking.
"So Gojo-san what's that barrier around the school for??"you asked out of nowhere. Gojo's eyes widened tho you couldn't see it because of the blindfold. You yelped when he took a hold of your hand and sat you down on the bed with him beside you facing you. He let go of your hand. "To put it simply it's a barrier more for hiding rather than protecting... It hides the school so any non shaman can't find it... But how did you know about it?" Gojo asked and looked straight at you. "O-Oh well I noticed it pretty far away from the school. I just thought it was weird it didn't do anything when we passed through it."you answered honestly. You didn't think much about the barrier anyway you were just curious. Gojo stared at you for a moment.

March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
