《Dear, JJ | JJ Maybank》26. twenty questions.

twenty questions.
Once again Otto and JJ got into the rhythm they had, Otto lightly bullied JJ and he'd make a light-hearted sarcastic comment. It was a two-way street, turns out Otto rolled a mean blunt, and JJ was an excellent hammock pusher.
It was a 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours' type of thing.
She still hung out with her dad as much as he allowed her to, if he decided she was spending too much time with him and not enough time with her friend's he'd kick her out. But every second she wasn't hanging out with him she was at JJ's.
The granny flat was still under construction, it got delayed a few times due to things Otto didn't care to know.
Otto drove over to the Chateau, Kie and JJ were laughing about something that happened during the gold hunt. Since the letter came they'd begun to open up a little more about what happened that summer. Otto got a little more insight of the absolute insanity.
She sat in the hammock, not laying down like normal because she wanted to see their faces, JJ still pushed her and she still thoroughly enjoyed it.
JJ noticed she kept glancing at her phone, "You got somewhere to be?" He asked.
"I do actually. I've got an ultrasound, to make sure it's not grown another head or anything like that."
"That's possible?" JJ asked a little horrified at the thought, Kie and Otto rolled their eyes.
"I mean, I guess it's possible. I saw this documentary on these conjoined twins, but the baby won't have grown another head."
He looked a little relieved, "Does an ultrasound hurt?"
"You're so clueless. You can come if you want? See the baby and shit." She shrugged, she probably should've offered a little before the day of the appointment but she was pretty sure he wouldn't want to.
"Sure. I don't really understand it though."
Once it was time they made their way over to the clinic, JJ kept pestering her with questions every single other being on the planet knew the answers to.
He really was special.
Otto had gotten a new doctor, she couldn't deal with the other one. She was still mad about the whole thing.

The new doctor was lovely, probably about the same age but had a gorgeous smile and kind eyes. Her long braids had gold beads spread through them, they made her look slightly ethereal.
The last doctor looked like she was pulled straight out of an Amish documentary.
When Otto laid down for the ultrasound JJ's face must've had a confused expression in his face, "First time?" She asked in a way that wasn't judgemental.
"How can you see the baby?" He asked pointing to the device.
The doctor pressed it against Otto's stomach and the screen lit up, "That's how."
He looked at it with slight amazement, "That's kind of creepy." He mumbled under his breath, Otto heard and couldn't help a snort.
She pushed it around for a few minutes checking everything was in order before she was done. "Would you like to know the gender?" She asked looking between the expectant parents.
"Yes."
"No."
Otto glared at JJ, "I mean no. I meant to say no. It just came out wrong." He retracted.
The doctor smiled, while JJ seemed absolutely clueless and it was slightly worrying he was going to be handed a baby in a matter of months, he seemed like he was trying.
And Otto seemed like the type to make sure he was doing everything right, bossy, but not over bearing.
She printed out some pictures and they went on their way.
"How many appointments are you meant to have?" He asked, he was now just curious.
"More than I've had, life's been a bitch. But I'll start making sure I go to them all now. As long as nothing else goes disastrously wrong."
"Nah, we're all good." JJ smirked looking down ever so slightly at Otto, she was only an inch or two shorter than him so it wasn't hard to look at her, they were essentially at eye level with each other.
JJ felt like things were finally falling into place in his life, he had direction, something to work towards. Something real to work towards. And he had never had that before.
He had the gold hunt, but that paled in comparison to what he was doing now.

He was Otto's good side, and this time he was going to stay there. He'd make sure of it.
They made a stop at Otto's house to drop of some pictures before they drove to the Chateau. When the walked around the corner they saw Pope and Kie huddled over something.
Another package.
They'd waited for the pair to get back to open it, it was from John B, they knew that much. It also seemed thicker than the last one.
Pope opened it up and two peices of paper fell onto the stained coffee table, he picked up the one that had writing on it. Pope read it aloud and once again it was short and sweet.
We're trying to come back to OBX, but every time we go outside we begin to get followed.
We've finally seen them up close, they have this emblem stitched on their shirts. I have drawn a picture.
- Sarah and John B.
It was clear Sarah had written this one as it was far easier to read. Otto picked up the paper, it had a poorly drawn picture.
She stared at it before passing it around the group.
"Well that's fucking useless." JJ grumbled, not flying off the handle. He was trying hard to not let his anger get the best of him.
Everyone saw that he was trying, it made them all smile internally.
"Can I have it again?" She asked and Kie handed it back to her. She stared at it, when she initially looked at it she thought she recognised it. But as she continued looking at it she realised she hadn't seen it before.
"Do you recognise it?" Pope asked, a slither of hope im his voice.
Otto sat it down on the coffee table, "I thought I did. But I don't, sorry."
Once again a carrot was dangled in front of their faces and snatched away before they could grab it.
"It could be something to do with the Cameron's? Maybe Rose or someone else in the family wants revenge?" Kie poses.
Pope shakes his head, "No, it'd be too risky, they've already had two people go down." He rested his forehead against his hands, desperately trying to think if he'd ever seen the logo.
The problem was it wasn't overly detailed, so it wasn't easy to zero in on anything.
"Did Rafe and Ward work with anyone? Maybe the smugglers--"
"They're dead."
"Oh, yeah. But they have got to be other people the worked with him. They couldn't have done all that on their own?" Kie said.
JJ was silent, leaning against the wall of the Chateau, just staring straight in front of him. He was trying very hard not to yell, he feared if he began to talk he'd snap and fuck it all up again.
The brainstorming lead nowhere, every idea they posed ended as quickly as it started. All snuffed out before going anywhere.
They knew the most likely scenario was that it was someone they didn't know, maybe they did something in the Caribbean that pissed someone off and they wanted revenge.
Still, even with new information, they couldn't help.
The afternoon bled into night and the group didn't have the light banter that they usually had, they all pretty much sat in tense silence. Annoyed, frustrated and upset.
Eventually Kie and Pope went back to their respective partners.
Yes, Kie got back with Maria.
They claimed this time it was for good, but everyone knew that was bullshit.
Otto sat on the pull-out and shifted uncomfortably, "It's trying to break my fucking rib."
The father-to-be looked up quickly, his wide eyes found Otto. "You can feel the baby moving?" He asked, sounding absolutely shocked.
"What did you expect? Its not the size of a pea anymore."
"Can you feel it breathing."
"Babies don't breathe."
He only got more confused, "Then wouldn't it die?"
She shook her head, slightly terrified this was the man she was having a baby with. "No, they get oxygen through the placenta."
"The fuck it a pla--"
"This isn't twenty questions." She glared at him, really not in the mood.
JJ really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a baby.
