《Mesmerizing Mr. Mafia》Mr. Mafia's Wife

Four words: New York City traffic.

Nothing quite compared to it.

The thing I found odd though, was the fact that Angelo didn't even seem fazed by it. Maybe it was because he's lived here for awhile now and just got used to it.

I let out a loud, annoyed sigh.

He glanced at me briefly through those aviator sunglasses of his that only made him look that much more sexy. "What's your major malfunction?"

"I'm impatient," I snapped. "We're going to be late."

The mafia house here in New York was still undergoing major investigation by the NYPD, so it was quite inhabitable at the moment. The past month we've all been getting by on living in hotel rooms.

Dom and Luca finally got apartments of their own two weeks ago and strongly suggested Angelo do the same. I, however; was not allowed to get my own apartment for security reasons so I'd be bunking with one of the three. That just so happened to be Angelo. Go figure.

Luca's cousin Benny owned a real estate agency here in NYC and said he'd help out, so that's where we were heading. Or trying to at least.

"You lived in LA, didn't you? The traffic is no better there than it is here."

I gave him a crazy look, "Have you ever been to LA?! The traffic is a lot better!" I slumped in my seat, "Of course you've never been to LA, it's too American. You don't like American things."

"And once again you've managed to bring my mood to an all time low. Thank you for that, Chloe."

"You're very welcome, Angelo." I sighed again, but then realized I could really use this traffic to my advantage. We were blocked in on every side by other cars so escape was not an option. I could interrogate Angelo all I wanted and he couldn't do anything about it.

Yeah, except shoot me.

"So," I started, playing with my fingers nervously, "Tell me more about Italia." It's been a whole month since any of us even saw her, but to this day Luca is the only one thats told me anything. I want the story from Angelo's point of view.

He tensed, "There's not a lot to tell and knowing you, you already had someone like Luca tell you all there was to know. You two are a pain in my side when you're together. Like children."

"Like bambini?" I questioned.

He gave me some amazed look, "You even got the plural form right. You're catching on quick, criceto."

"Could you maybe stop calling me a hamster? What have a done to you recently?"

"I'm still a little angry about my estate. That place was expensive and I'm only losing more money. What names did you have in mind though?"

"I don't know. Something not so..."

"Degrading?"

"Yep."

"Hmm..." He tapped his fingers against the steering wheel, slowly creeping forward in the NYC traffic, "Gattina is a no. You don't like criceto. What about passerotta? It means little sparrow."

"Sparrow? Like the bird? Sparrows are freaking fat! I want something cool, something warrior like."

"What have you done to deserve a name like that though? So far you've proven to me that all you're really great at is ruining what was perfectly fine and...damaging yourself," he motioned toward my leg. The leg who's bullet wound was healing quite nicely might I add. I was proud of my slightly tan gazelle leg.

"Well ok, you're rude," I crossed my arms over my chest dramatically and shifted in my seat to look directly at the side of his face. "Have you considered letting me go home yet? I've already told you like a million times that I'll freaking swear by your dumb omertà code or whatever it's called."

"I don't trust you...at all. You can barely remember the name of the word, how am I supposed to trust that you even know what it means? You're not going home anytime soon, Chloe, so drop it."

I followed into the apartment in downtown NYC behind Angelo and Luca's cousin Benny. He didn't look anything like Luca, the color of his hair was even the total opposite.

While Luca looked slim, Benny was round. Luca had short black hair with piercing blue eyes while Benny had unkempt blonde hair with dull brown eyes. Even for being in the mafia, Luca gave off a friendly, carefree vibe. Benny looked all serious and honestly scared the hell out of me. He gave off an Angelo sort of vibe. The only difference between the two though was the solid fact that Angelo was hotter than the freaking Sahara Desert. Benny was about as hot as the North Pole.

Angelo leaned in close to me as Benny turned his back to us, "He doesn't know about the mafia, so don't say anything," he whispered.

Like I would anyway? It's not really a topic most people wanted to talk about. I rolled my eyes, still mad about earlier, "Whatever."

Benny moved to the middle of the large open living room and clasped his fat fingers together in front of him, "Here we have an apartment in downtown NYC, as you know. It has two bedrooms, and two baths..."

He kept talking but I zoned out. Even his voice was blah.

It wasn't until I felt two pairs of eyes on me that I finally came back to reality. Benny looked as if he was waiting for me to answer a question while Angelo seemed to be telling to 'go with it'.

I gave him a weird look in return, not wanting to know what trouble I was in now.

I shook my head, "Um sorry...what?"

"Luca told me that you and Angelo had just gotten married. Congratulations. Is this your first home?"

Luca said what?!

I had to process this for a moment before responding. Why on gods green earth would Luca think lying like that was even remotely ok? Angelo nudged my side, very indiscreetly might I add. He would've made a terrible actor, "Oh. Yeah it is," I smiled fake lovingly up at Angelo, and wrapped my arms around him like any girl in their right mind would. "First home. I'm so excited." If I was gonna have to lie about being "married" to Angelo, I was gonna have a lot of fun with it, "I don't think it's big enough though because I wants lots and lots of bambini. Where would they all go?"

"We're not having lots and lots of bambini though...ever," Angelo interjected. "This should be fine."

Benny looked between the two of us, utter confusion embedded into his older face. "You can look around. Maybe it'll change one of your minds."

I started looking around immediately. The kitchen caught my eye first. I wasn't really sure if there was even a point to having a kitchen, because honestly I hated cooking, wasn't good at it at all, and I really can't see Angelo cooking anything ever either. That's why we've been getting takeouts for the past month.

I skimmed my eyes over the rest of the open apartment before moving into what I'm assuming was the master bedroom. Angelo followed closely behind and even went as far as closing the door as soon as the two of us were completely inside. "Why would Luca lie like that?!" I whisper yelled. "Did you know that he did that?"

"I had no idea. You're not very convincing though."

I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, 'cause you totally are. You're a worse actor than anyone in a any B movie."

"Feisty."

"Always. Does this place come with the furniture?"

"I don't know and I don't care," he turned around and exited the room again.

I guess I was done looking around. The place wasn't so bad.

I left the room and joined Angelo and Benny out in the living room, "I guess it's good enough," I said.

"Are you sure? It's only the first apartment. Maybe you'll like one more."

"Nah. I'm kinda tired anyway, it's fine. Does it come with everything in here though?"

"That's an option you have or you can have it all removed before moving in."

I looked over to Angelo briefly and then back at Benny, "We'll keep it."

Don't really feel like furniture shopping with Mr. Mafia too.

I turned the tv off after hours of watching House Hunters and slid off of my bed and onto Angelo's. It was interrogation time.

His sleepy state was gone and now he was wide awake and more annoyed than ever, "What do you want now, needy woman?" He whined while pulling the white duvet over his body.

"We're going to be living together so I need to know more about you. You're a freaking closed book and it's really hard to get any info about you out of Dom or Luca."

"'Cause they answer to me, not you, genius. What the hell could you possibly want to know about me? I'm pretty self explanatory. I'm in the mafia, I do criminal stuff but I'm still classy as hell. Now go to bed."

"No. Tell me more. How long have you been in the mafia?"

"Too long."

"God, you're frustrating. How long?"

"I grew up in the mafia, so my whole life?"

"Luca said your dad use to be the boss? What happened to him?"

"Ya know, we're not actually married. I don't have to answer your petty questions." He sighed after seeing my disappointment. "He got caught and now he's locked up in an Italian prison. It happened...six years ago."

"How long is he going to be locked up?"

"Until someone gets him out?"

"Oh."
