First-year students get the chance to meet new people and join new groups during welcome week at their university of choice. The idea is to make first-year students feel appreciated and welcomed by their more experienced classmates and lecturers.
This custom has been observed by several universities for many years. To ease the transition from high school to college for first-year students, this custom was established.
