《ʟᴏᴠᴇ ᴡᴀᴠᴇs》Kanan

"Let me just process this information for a minute or two." Kanan was lying in Chika's bed, rubbing her face in a circular motion as if to show confusion or stress. Her eyes were starting up at the ceiling with full concentration, while Chika simply walked around the room waiting for a proper answer.
She had shared the medical results with Kanan and all about the Riko hallucinations. Eventually Kanan would find out too, but it was better for Chika to tell her. If she was to find out for herself, there would probably be a bigger mess than there had been with her family.
Kanan was like a third sister to Chika, always by her side since they were little. She had even known Riko, even though those two weren't as close as Riko and Chika were before Riko had passed away. Which was why, Chika thought, it was probably gonna be harder to tell her about the hallucinations.
If you think about your friend picturing your having haunting images of your other friend, except this one was dead, you'd definitely be creeped out. Especially when it was caused by something like mental illness.
Chika walked out to her balcony, staring at the moon. The blue light shined down on her lightly, and she could feel the anxiety brewing inside of her. Although it had only been a few minutes since she had waited for Kanan's answer, she was becoming very impatient.
Without Chika even noticing, Kanan strolled next to her without making a sound. It was something she often did. Just show up next to people without the other even noticing at first, so silent it seemed as if she was barefoot. It was gonna give her a heart attack one day, Chika thought.
"Well.." Kanan stopped midway, as if to carefully think of what words were most appropriate for the situation. She took a deep breath before continuing, "It's pretty obvious, but I'm not sure about what to say."

"That's a first. You're usually pretty good at giving advice."
"I know. I'd be modest, but if I were to fake it we both know it wouldn't suit me." She gave Chika a small smile.
It was silent for a moment before Kanan spoke up again, "Well, it could be worst! I mean, at least you don't even have to consider lobotomy as an option, so that's something."
This was something Chika liked about Kanan. She always tried to lighten up the mood, she couldn't stand a dark mood or any sort of bad one for more than a few minutes. Even if it was with some lame comment, that girl just wouldn't stay quiet.
"But really, why didn't you tell me? I've known you since we were kids.. In all honesty, I'm more upset about the fact that you told me last than the fact you have schizophrenia. Which is, I know, selfish, but allow me to be a normal selfish teenager for a minute and answer my question please."
Chika did not think Kanan would react this way. Well, she actually had no idea of how she would react, she didn't even stop to think about it, but she couldn't picture Kanan being these serious. She was the type of girl who was always cool and collected. At least that was she strike Chika to be.
"I guess I just didn't want you to treat me any different. I didn't want to feel like there's something wrong with me, although I know there is, there's no denying it at this point. It's.. more than just that. And something I'd rather keep for myself, at least for the time being."
"Well then, let's not talk about this ever again." Chika looked at her, a little surprised. "And yes, I am serious. As much as I could ask a bunch of questions, I see you're not comfortable with this, and mental illness isn't something easy.. I guess that what I'm trying to say is that as long as you're getting the help you need, and as long as you do what you're supposed to do, I won't bother you with this topic. But I will always be here if you need anything."

Chika jumped to wrap her in a tight hug, which startled Kanan a little, and it even startled Chika herself a little, she wasn't always the soft and cuddly type. Regardless, Kanan hugged back and they stood like that for a few seconds before separating once again.
"What are you gonna do about You?"
"I thought you weren't gonna bother me about this topic," she said, rolling her eyes a bit.
"Both you and I know that you're just trying to avoid talking about her, and she isn't related to the topic, not directly, at least."
"Fine, you're right. I don't wanna talk about her, I don't want to talk to her, and I don't want to see her. So, let's not talk about her!" She said, clapping her hands as if to signal the conversation had ended.
"You know, there's no way you'll be able to avoid her forever. What you're doing isn't good for either of you."
"She went behind my back. What she did is going to literally change the way I've lived up until now. She might think that what she did was for the best, but everything was just fine before she came along. I thought I was actually gonna be friends with her, which is a major let down, mind you. And I don't want to be let down by her again, nor do I want to be reminded of the a feeling called 'I wanna wrap my hands around your neck and choke you'. So, nothing is changing anytime soon."
"Okay, I can't say I understand what you feel right now, because I don't. I don't have the right to say that what she said was right or wrong, for the best or not, but I will say that I think you're making a mistake to simply ignore her. It's not gonna take you anywhere."
"She won't take me anywhere. End of the conversation. Now, I'm craving some pizza." She got up and ignored the excessively loud desperation sigh Kanan let out and walked out of her room, ignoring yet another incoming call.

How the Stars Turned Red
Announcement as of 05 July 2022: I've been diagnosed with some pretty severe nerve damage in my left arm, rendering me unable to write effectively, and as such this story is on hold until it is healed. I am so sorry, and I promise to get back to writing as soon as possible. In the latter half of the 3rd millennium CE, humanity has spread across the stars, inhabiting close to five-hundred worlds across the Orion Arm. Earth has become irrelevant, a historical has-been. The galactic map is dominated by two mega-factions, both controlling vast amounts of territories either through direct control or through their many allies and treaty signatories. The Kingdom of Aurora is the political and economic hegemon despite consisting of only seven inhabited worlds; their strength lies in the Royal Union, an interstellar commonwealth composing an internal market and a common defence pact. These member worlds are myriad and varied, culturally as well as politically, but they all flock to the same banner. The Independent Systems Alliance, spearheaded by the Republic of Elysium, is the ascendant challenger to Aurora and the Union. A pseudo-federal multi-system polity, the Alliance economy and military is rapidly expanding, but at the cost of effective democratic and meritocratic involvement by its people. However, with two superpowers as this, chafing along a common border, and with a constant clamour of polemics, both sides have become convinced the other is constantly preparing for war and are on the look-out for any perceived weakness in their opponent. The predictable result is a huge arms race and a cold war spreading across the stars, requiring only a spark to set the galaxy aflame. Drawn into this game of high stakes are ordinary men and women, their peaceful lives, hopes, and aspirations swallowed by the vortex of conflict and distrust. This is their story. Cover art by Rhodex Designs (FB). Hope you like long chapters and adjectives. Note: English is not my first language. Another story set in the same universe, written by a good friend

Soon though, it is all too clear that Alcar, clumsy and lazy as he is, lacks any natural magical talent. It also becomes apparent that Master Maluhk is only interested in ’apprentices’ in order to get someone to do his laundry and tidy up his books. At best, Alcar and the others have signed up to do unpaid labor. Things go from bad to worse when his fellow applicants for the role of apprentice prove to be reckless in the extreme, and as Master Maluhk’s tower catches fire, Alcar soon finds himself being blamed for their misdemeanors. Can Alcar clear his name, gain another chance, and learn enough to show that he has the potential to be a proper sorcerer’s apprentice? [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
