Movies made the camping experience look like a dream come true, something completely unimaginable. A completely wild, crazy adventure.
In reality, camping for me, was the most uncomfortable experience of my life, starting from the fact that sleeping in a tent was a hundred and ten per cent different to my entire seventeen years of sleeping in a plush bed, to waking up at five-thirty in the morning, because there was a bird outside that was currently cheeping like a spastic.
But, if there was one thing that I currently wasn't too bothered about, it was the fact that a strong arm was currently draped around my waist, crushing me to the owner's stone-hard chest.
Like always, I couldn't find the right words to describe how handsome Reece was as he slept peacefully. I took the opportunity to stare at his perfect features, beginning with his long eyelashes, and the way his hair fell casually over his eyes. Without thinking, my fingers brushed it away from his face.
His eyes shot open immediately, looking right back at me.
My heart stopped beating for a fraction of a second, before I dared myself not to blush at the fact that he had caught me staring. What surprised me though was that instead of making a snide comment, he didn't say anything; Reece just continued to gaze at me with an unreadable expression. We just lay there next to each other in silence.
"There was a leaf in your hair." I finally made out, in my pathetic attempt at an excuse.
"Sure."
I frowned, "There was!"
"Okay, Princess." He yawned, stretching his arms, "Whatever you say."
I kept a straight face, "Okay you got me, there was no leaf."
He rolled his eyes, but his smirk never left his face, "Oh, really?"
"It was a spider." I finished.
His eyes instantly widened, "Don't fuck with me Chloe." He warned, "I swear, if this is some fuckin' joke..."He trailed, sitting up and looking around himself in paranoia.
I laughed, "It's nice to know how I can make you scream." I winked.
Reece blinked, registering my dirty joke.
Then, the next think I knew, he was on top of me, his face inches away from mine.
"Oh, Chloe." He began, his voice low and steady, making my breath hitch in my throat, "I thought I told you not to mess with me." He said against my neck, his lips barely brushing against my skin, "After all, I think I know how to make you scream, too." He finished, placing a soft, lingering kiss where he'd spoken, making me let out a soft sigh of pleasure.
"Hey Carter, you up yet bro? This fuckin' bird wont stop fuckin' chirping and-"Valentino pulled the tent zip down too fast for Reece to back up, leaving Valentino with a bewildered expression. "Oh, wow."
I squeezed my eyes shut, and mentally face-palmed myself. Before opening them and watching as Valentino's shocked look, turns into a super smug smile.
"Well...I see you guys are busy. I'm just gonna go make Dennis make me breakfast..."
"Val..." Reece warned, getting off of me, letting the cold morning air hit me.
Valentino held his hands up, looking innocent. "What?" He smiled. "I'm leaving, chill, woman." His attention turned to me for a split second before he left, "Have fun, Little C." He winked as he zipped up the tent again.
I turned around and groaned into my pillow. I knew I was not going to hear the end of it from Valentino.

"Your fault." I pointed accusingly at Reece who was looking at me amusedly.
"Nuh-uh. You're the one who mentioned spiders. Your fault."
"Shut up." I mumbled pathetically.
Reece chuckled, and it was the sweetest thing to hear at six in the morning.
We drifted into another comfortable silence, and for a moment, he looked so in thought, with his eyebrows knotted together and his jaw clenched, like he always does when he's contemplating.
His eyes flashed up at me. "Chloe?"
"Yeah?"
He was about to say something, maybe even ask me something. I just knew it from the way my heart pounded against my chest.
But he took everything back.
"We should get going." He said, passing over my jumper. "There's still a couple of more hours until we get there."
I quickly put on the clothing and nodded, watching him get up and run his fingers through his hair in frustration. I so desperately wanted to ask him what he was really about to say, but Reece had already dashed out of the tent.
Oh, Reece. What are you doing to me?
~*~
♕ Ashton De Ville ♕
Leaning back into the rich leather couches, I watched, captivated as the only girl that ever mattered in my life walked through the stadium doors, searching for a familiar face.
Chloe. My Chloe.
But, I knew that she'd never actually be mine again.
She took a seat much further away from where I was situated and politely declined a waiter who'd offered her a drink with a sweet smile. She still hadn't noticed my presence.
"Champagne, Sir?"
I tore my eyes away from Chloe's beautiful face and accepted the glass of sparkling Champagne. Bringing it to my lips, I smirked as an idea came to my mind.
She'd never be mine again, I knew that. But, that didn't mean I was willing to let her be someone else's either.
I gently tapped the young waiter beside me.
"You see that girl sitting there? The one with the crème blouse?"
The brunette boy nodded, his brown eyes landing on Chloe. I continued. "I'm going to speak to her. After I'm done, I need you to inform her that a gentleman by the name, Reece Carter, is waiting for her in his room and needs to talk to her before the Championships begin. Understood?" I finished, reticently placing a bill in his scarlet cashmere pocket.
The boy nodded once, obediently.
"Good." I grinned, pulling out my phone and tapping the call button. It took a while for her to pick up, I could almost imagine her contemplating to do so.
"What do you want?" Chantelle spat through the other line.
"Now, now...is that anyway to speak to your beloved twin?"
I heard her sigh, "What do you want, Ash?"
"I need you to do something for me."
"Do what?"
I spent the next few minutes explaining my plan, when I was done, I waited patiently for her to say something.
"No."
"Excuse me?"
"No." She replied determinedly. "I won't do it."
I chuckled once. "What made you think you had a choice?"
Now it was her turn to be taken aback. "Sorry?"
"Little sister, I don't think you understand, you will do this for me." I informed her slowly, never taking my eyes off of Chloe as she mindlessly played with her hair. I longed to hold her again, caress her beautiful, flawless face. I yearned for the chance to go back in time and make things right, but I cant.

And knowing that I didn't have the power to do something was slowly killing me.
"Or else what?" Chantelle challenged, bringing me back out of my daze.
"André dies."
"Woah, wait – what!? Ashton, leave André out of this. You can't do this, Ash-"
"I got him beaten up so badly, he lost half his memory, didn't I?"
I could almost hear the sound of her heartbeat through my phone, I laughed quietly to myself.
"Ash, please, leave him alone. I'm begging you."
Two years ago, it would have physically hurt me to hear her like that, to know my twin was aching. But now, I was completely numb. I couldn't feel a thing.
"Do you love him?"
There was a long pause, before Chantelle finally whispered her reply.
"Yes."
"Then, do this for me no harm will come to your little lover." I said simply before hanging up on her, not bothering to wait for her reply.
I pinched the bridge of my nose and took a few deep breaths. My body was tense and my hands couldn't stop shaking. Reminiscences of the person I used to be fled into my mind. I used to be happy, so happy. Life was perfect. I had everything.
But now, I had nothing, I'd lost everything that ever mattered to me. All that's left is resentment and animosity. I hardly even recognized myself.
And I blame it all on my former best friend, André.
After all, he was the one who pressured me into breaking Chloe's heart.

I let out a sigh of monotony, playing with a lock of my hair and humming a song that was always on the radio nowadays. Valentino told me he'd meet me here and give me my ticket in half an hour, until then, I was to stay here and slowly die of boredom.
"Someone looks like they're having fun." A familiar voice chuckled, sitting beside me and instantly radiating heat against my body. Ashton smiled at me, the cute, boy-ish smile I would have died for, a long time ago.
I mentally sighed and forced a friendly smile to play on my lips. The past is the past; I'd gotten over everything that had happened between Ashton and me. I had Reece now; there was no point in keeping a grudge against my ex anymore. He can't hurt me anymore.
Right?
"Hey, what, no French?" I laughed; surprised that he was actually speaking to me in English.
Ashton looked surprised, almost as if he'd expected me to act resentfully towards him, like I normally would have. He let out another genuine smile, then shrugged.
"So..." I began, breaking the ice, "What are you doing here?"
"Leonardo Scarletti, Reece's rival, is a long-time friend of mine." He said casually, flicking his hair out of his eyes.
"Oh."
He shrugged again, "May the best man win."
I nodded, lost in thought, silently praying that no harm would come to Reece tonight.
I hesitantly peered through my lashes, only to see that Ash's eyes held onto a mixture of hurt and anger. "You've really fallen for him, haven't you."
It wasn't a question, yet a statement, but I gave him an answer anyway.
"I love him."
It surprised me at how soft my voice came out, but even though the stadium was getting crowded, Ashton still had managed to hear me.
"He's a very lucky guy, Chloe. I hope he knows that, and cherishes that knowledge. I hope he realises what winning your heart is undoubtedly, the best prize of all."
I let out a shaky breath, feeling my cheeks begin to burn.
Ash placed his soft, warm hand on top of mine. "I hope he doesn't make the same mistake I did, it made me lose the girl I love."
His blue eyes were so hypnotising, I could barely breathe. "It was real, wasn't it?"
"What was?"
"Us." I cleared as my heart pounded against my chest, "We were young, and we made mistakes...but we were really in love, right?"
Ashton stared back with twice the intensity, and for a moment, I allowed myself to get lost in his eyes, to remember all the times we shared, the joy, the laughter, the moments that would always remain a memory of a time where I was in love for the first time.
"It was always real, Chloe. You couldn't fake a love like ours."
With that, he leaned in closer and I closed my eyes, focusing on the sound of my own breaths. I felt him place a soft, lingering kiss on my forehead. Moments later, I opened my eyes, only to find that Ashton was no longer beside me. It was only then I'd realized his kiss was in fact, a goodbye.
"Excuse me Madam," I looked up to see a waiter, a boy, nothing older than myself. "Reece Carter would like to see you in his room before the Championships."
I looked up at the young waiter and smiled, "Okay, thank you."
Standing up and straightening my skirt, I headed towards the corridors that led to Reece's room. I wondered what Reece wanted to tell me. I could feel that my cheeks were still flushed with what had happened moments ago with Ashton. I couldn't believe that I had actually confessed that I loved Reece to Ashton. I was telling the truth no doubt, but saying it out loud was a totally different thing.
So maybe, I should be confessing it to Reece.
By the time I reached the door, I had already mentally prepared myself to grab his face, forget about the stupid bet, and kiss him.
I smiled to myself, as I held the handle and pushed the door open.
My smile instantly faded.
Instead, I took in the scene that lay before me.
Chantelle DeVille had her arms snaked around the neck of a very shirtless Reece Carter, who had lipstick smudged on the edge of his lips, as he gripped her waist.
For a moment, I was too stunned to say, think or feel anything.
And then, my heart began to shatter, slowly and painfully.
Déjà vu hit me like a ton of steel bricks.
Another piece of my heart broke.
Reece pushed Chantelle off of himself and ran towards me, his eyes burning with regret. "Chloe, you have to believe me, this isn't what it looks like."
"What a cliché thing to say." Numbness had taken over me; I barely recognized my own voice.
Chantelle just stood there, without a sign of remorse, as I ran out of the room, fighting back tears.
My world began crashing down. It was like I was re-living what had happened in the past with Ashton, opening the door only to find him sleeping around with a blonde.
I was so stupid! What was I thinking? Hadn't I already learnt the hard way that boys only pretend that they like you? Why would Reece be any different? Why did I force myself to believe that he was different?
Reece kept calling my name, but I didn't dare to look back. I was almost halfway down the corridor, when Reece grabbed my wrist, spinning me towards his chest.
Almost immediately, I tried to retreat. After all, the last thing I needed was to be reminded of how amazing it felt to be in his arms. "Let me go, Reece! Just leave me alone!"
"No!" He argued, "You have to believe me, Chloe. I swear it wasn't what it looked like!"
My head was spinning; I needed him to stop talking. I needed him to stop speaking because he kept repeating the exact words Ashton had once said to me. This was just too overwhelming. I needed to get out of here. And then there was the little part of my brain that kept reminding me that it wasn't like he was cheating on me, we were never together.
So why does my heart feel like it's been ripped out of my chest. Why do the signs of heartbreak hurt so much the second time round, even though Reece and I were never a couple in the first place?
I guess, all he was ever guilty of, was making me fall in love with him, and making me believe that he liked me too.
But I guess that's just what boys do.
And honestly, I've had enough of this shit.
I shoved him, hard, "I don't care." I said solemnly, even though the images of Chantelle and Reece were still so vivid in my mind, "I really don't." I tried to convince myself.
Ugh. Who was I kidding?
I needed to get out of here, so I could breathe.
I ripped my hand away from his grasp, "By the way, you've got a lovely shade of slut on the edge of your lips." Backfiring his exact words, from the day he commented on Chantelle's make up when we were wagging school.
Ugh, that lying jerk.
Almost immediately, Reece pulled me back, and held my shoulders as if to shake some sense into me. I stared angrily into his dark green eyes, as he spoke the words I'd never thought I'd hear him say
"Chloe, I love you."
I blinked, registering it.
Did he really just say that he loved me?
Regardless of the pain that I was currently feeling, my heart swelled and my stomach erupted with butterflies. The way he had said it was so convincing, it sounded so honest, how could someone lie so easily?
Was he lying?
"Prove it."
The words were out of my mouth, before I even knew what I was thinking. I watched as Reece's eyebrows knotted in confusion. Almost instantly, I felt a sudden pang of guilt. He looked so sincere. My heart pounded at the thought that he would actually be in love with me, but I needed closure. I needed that extra bit of security that he was telling the truth.
"For fuck's sake, Chloe." Reece said exasperatedly, throwing his hands up in the air, "How do you want me to prove it?"
I watched as his chest heaved up and down. The way his soft hair was messed up and the way his eyes held so much emotion, it consumed me. With his jaw clenched and his entire body tensed, I couldn't help but remember all the memories we'd shared together, from the first time we met when I was locked in school, falling in the pond with him because of Bella the spastic, Reece saving my life at Tyler's party, Reece endangering my life on his motorbike, skipping school, our moment on the roof top when he was upset, the fun times in math class, and finally, each kiss - even though I always had my ulterior motives.
So I stood there, mesmerised by the boy I had fallen head over heels in love with.
And in that moment, I wondered how far he was willing to go to prove what I meant to him.
"I want you to lose the Championships tonight."

Speaking of Ashton...amazing how so many of you thought he'd be fighting Reece, see that's the thing about Ash, he lets others do the dirty work for him, hence why he'll always be

Stories Of Indlu
“… to grow, for opportunity, for adventure, to be free. Join the colony ship Nao Vittoria. Be the first to live amongst the stars.” It was obvious from the literature that the NextStar corporation wanted the young, the adventurous and the brilliant. So why were the super rich fighting over seats? Why were AI’s trying to stow away? Did this signify a premature end to human/AI civilisation? Why had some questions directed to NextStar been aggressively sidelined? Why did the colonist inflight entertainment trial produce fatalities? In fact, why colonists at all? Those and many other questions, however, boiled down to a single central question. Why was the world’s most advanced AI dumped with a hundred year babysitting job for 50 million people speeding towards an uninhabitable planet? It made such little sense. The only sure way to get answers, catch a ride on the Nao Vittoria and play the inflight entertainment game, Pax Domini. I joined, and this is my story. Well, I feature. OK, I’m more of a spectator. Actually, I’m completely irrelevant I was just there. I’m only the storyteller. But what a story to tell. --------- Hi All, Content will be published weekly usually Saturday and typical posts will be 25oo to 4ooo words per post. Though for some reason the Royal Road word count does not include the content of tables so some posts may not appear to meet this criteria. Currently I have written sufficient unedited content to keep this schedule for the next 12 months (half way through the first story arc). My current productivity would indicate that I can maintain this schedule for well into the second story arch. This also allows for the additional content that will be posed exclusively on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/StoriesOfIndlu). This additional content follows minor characters, peripheral events, maps and other content that does not take away from the main story. I would love to accelerate the post schedule but to meet this I need the assistance of more beta readers than I currently have. So please let me know if you are interested. - Andy ©2022 Andy Leauter.
