After Joseph had proposed the idea of the of them returning to Montgomery Cemetery, Lark became flustered at the memory of Joseph landing his lips atop the tip of his nose. Would he do it again? Or would he do even more?

Joseph was inching closer toward Lark's fingers—almost there, until Lark spoke up, then all confidence was gone. "Do you hear that? We really shouldn't be here so late at night, Joe."

"Relax, Reyes," Joseph threw an arm around Lark's shoulder, leaning in closer to his ear. "Just lean on me."

They found the spot they had lied in the last time they'd been there, and almost instantly, Lark became paranoid about the tombstones surrounding the two boys.

Joseph took a seat beside Lark, leaning back on both elbows. "I'm going to ask you something—but you have to promise me that you'll be honest."

"I promise." Lark's answer comes without hesitation, and his non-reluctance scared Joseph to his very being.

"Do you still . . . feel anything toward Andy?" The question caught Lark off guard? Was Joseph curious about his situation with Andy because he was the least bit interested? Or was Lark, once again—looking too far into the scene playing out before him?

Then, Lark paused. Did he still have feelings for Andy? Just because he'd left Andy, didn't mean he stopped feeling anything towards him. He left because he was hurt—not because he'd fallen out of . . . whatever he felt for Andy.

Joseph wanted to stand up and make his way out of the cemetery's gate, at Lark's silence. But he was already in too deep—he had to know.

Just as Joseph was ready to speak again, and dismiss himself—Lark eased his nerves. "No," Lark reassured. "I don't feel anything toward Andy—I promise."

"Promise is a strong word."

"But it's the truth—I promise, Joe."

Joseph made his way closer to Lark, both hands again on either side of his face, a loving smile in place. "You're so, so special to me. I promise."

Lark surprised the both of them, by jumping into Joseph's arms, and landing his lips on Joseph's. Instantly, Joseph's hands found Lark's hips, settling the smaller boy into his lap.

They separated for air, wide smiles on their faces. Joseph's fingers massaged themselves into Lark's hip, nuzzling Lark's nose with his. "I never want this to end—promise me just one more thing—that this won't end?"

Lark left a small, light kiss onto Joseph's forehead. "I promise."
