Kiara walked around her huge college campus going to her history class. She's never been so drained in her life. She was up until 1 am writing her paper so She was exhausted. She went to the Starbucks that was in campus, which was literally around the corner from her class building and grabbed a Carmel iced coffee with two shots of espresso, Kiara seriously needed it because her history teacher was old and boring.

She made it to her class and sat down at her assigned seat, she was the first in class and enjoyed it for as long as she could before the obnoxious college athletic boys came in bothering her.

Once everyone came in her teacher began to set up while Kiara minded her business on her phone.

"Yo Kiara what you doing this weekend?" Troy asked her as he turned around to face her.

"You know Kiara don't got no life, she just gon be in her house editing those ugly ass pictures she be taking." Laurel said as she looked over at Troy.

"I didn't know I was talking to you." Troy spat at Laurel defending Kiara.

"What you defending her for? She ain't nobody." Laurel spat back.

"Because I can, now continue to brush that crunchy ass weave." He spat.

Kiara laughed a little but stopped once Laurel shot her a death stare. Troy turned back to her and asked her again. "So what you doing Saturday night?"

"Nothing, just chillin with my granny." She spoke.

"Will ya granny be upset if you skipped out, I got tickets to this lil poetry thing Saturday and I know you into it." He asked her, hoping she would say yes.

"Fasure. Just hit me up." Kiara said excitedly.

Troy was something like a childhood friend. He was 6'2, light skin with a curly top. He was Dominican and he was literally the only person in her school who was nice to her. She liked it but it started to get annoying when people questioned their relationship.

She didn't like being around people but when they offered to pay and take her somewhere she was all for it. Plus this poetry event he's speaking of is all she wanted to go to recently, she was trying to get tickets but they were all sold out.

She went along with her school day and when it was over she had to rush right downtown to take pictures.

She headed down to Times Square to take pictures for a couple who just got married. She didn't understand why they wanted to take pictures down there but they did say that's where they met which she found kind of cool but odd.

Kiara thought she was an okay photographer but others beg to differ, all her clients loved her. Her granny said that for her to only be 22 years old she had a better career than some adults. Kiara didn't pay any of them any mind at all because she thought they were just gassing her head.

Before she went to her shoot she went to McDonald's to grab something quick to eat, she was way pass starving, she didn't eat lunch at school because the food was disgusting.

As she waited in line she realized a man, around her age was eyeing her down. Kiara didn't pay it any mind, she got used to men staring at her. She just never was phased as long as they didn't try to touch her.

Her food was called and she went up and grabbed her McDonald's bag and began walking towards the door when the boy began to walk to her.

He reached his hand out to grab her jean jacket. Kiara felt the slight tug and turned towards the young man. When she got a closer look at him she saw he was actually really handsome. His dark, chocolate skin was clear and shiny, he was glowing and she loved it. He had a pointed beard that traced his jawline and I small mustache, it was a good size for this head, it wasn't wild and crazy. He had dark brown eyes with beautiful eye lashes, his eye brows were a little thick. He dressed really well and to compliment his skin he had on a yellow durag. Kiara was a sucker for a nice durag and waves.

"How you doin'?" The handsome young man asked her looking down at her.

Kiara couldn't help but blush, he was beautiful. She was obviously crushing on the young man and she knew later she'd regret it.

"Im good and you?" She asked showing interest.

"I'm chillin." The young man said. He looked over Kiara and studied her, he saw her sneakers and saw that she had some drip. "Your sneakers hot, where get them from?" He asked.

"My classmate Troy has a sneaker plug, he got them for me for my birthday." She told the boy. The young boys face dropped.

"Is that your dude or?" He cautiously asked hoping Kiara would say no.

"No,he's more of a friend." She felt a chill go through her body as she referred to her classmate as a friend.

The young mans face lit up. "Oh that's cool he's a good friend." He told her. Kiara nodded in agreement.

"Number 225!" The worker yelled out his number.

"Be right back." He informed Kiara. He grabbed his food and turned back to the patiently waiting Kiara. "Can I get your number?" He asked politely.

It kind of shocked Kiara, yeah men noticed her but they never really asked for her number. They'd just stare her down and call her beautiful but never asked for her information.

"Uh, sure." She smiled. Kiara took the young mans phone submitting her number and name then handing the IPhone 8+ back to him.

He looked at his phone seeing her name. "Kiara? That's pretty. My names Prince." He introduced himself , Kiara found it weird but a cute name but she didn't mind it, it's different. "Maybe I can take you on a date, maybe somewhere other than McDonald's.." he joked causing Kiara to laugh a bit.

"I'm for it, just let me know." She agreed.

"Cool, I'll text you." He smiled. Prince felt good, he actually took interest in her, he didn't really know her but what he saw was impressing, she could dress and she was beautiful that right there was all he needed to become interested in person. Next, all he needed was the personality.

He watched as Kiara exited the McDonald's and turned the corner.

Kiara began to walk down the busy New York street, reaching her destination. She texted her clients and informed them that she was there. She scanned the area in search for the happy couple. Once she spotted them she greeted them and began to do her thing. The couple was happy and you could tell that it wasn't just for the pictures. Kiara aspired to be as happy as they were one day, she just didn't believe that her Romeo was real and that she would just continue to be a lonely, unhappy Juliet. She continued to take the pictures of the happy couple and wondered if the new boy would be her happiness? Could he be the Romeo to her Juliet? It was only time that would tell her.

When she was finished with her shoot she packed up her things and headed down the subway to head home. As she waited she felt her phone buzz, she whipped it out seeing a text from Troy

Troy

Hey can you swing by, I have your ticket, if you want it now...

~9:24pm

Kiara responded saying she'll stop by, Troy lived literally across the street from her. His mom and Kiara's grandma were good friends. Kiara decided to stay off of campus, she'd rather be with her granny than with a bunch of people she didn't clash well with.

She got onto her train and put her headphones in, leaving one earbud out so that she could be aware of her surroundings.

As she scrolled through her Instagram explore page she got a message from Prince.

Prince

Wyd?

~9:45pm

Nothing much..just going home, hbu?

Kiara responded. She texted Prince until she got off of her train. She swiped out of their messages and clicked onto Troy's, telling him that she was outside. His mom came to the door, inviting her in. Kiara walked to the living room and sat on the couch waiting for Troy to come down. As she waited she continued to text Prince.

Prince

That's cool, maybe you can take some pictures of me one day.

He said. Kiara found out that he played football and that he was pretty damn good. He's gotten a lot of offers from amazing NFL teams, but he hasn't found the one that fits him.

She typed away on her phone not realizing that Troy was standing in front of her.

"Who we texting?" Troy joked.

"Mind your business." She told him still typing away on her phone. At least she could say that Prince was interesting and knew how to hold a conversation.

Troy looked over her shoulder seeing the odd name.

"Who the hell is Prince?" He asked Kiara.

"What part of mind your business don't you understand?" She avoided the question, finally looking up from her phone. "Wheres the tickets?" She asked.

"Right here." He showed the tickets.

"Give me my ticket." Kiara said reaching for the ticket that she has been itching to get her hands on.

Troy snatched the tickets away. "Aht aht, who's Prince?" Troy asked again. Kiara knew he wouldn't give up until she told him.

"A boy I met." She kept it short with him which she knew she would soon regret.

"When? How? What he look like? Where he from?" Troy asked bombarding her with questions.

His mother walked out of the kitchen wiping her hands off with a paper towel.

"Boy leave her alone. You ain't her daddy." His mom spat.

"Thank you." Kiara thanked her.

"If he tries to hurt you,let me know." Troy informed Kiara.

He's always looked at Kiara as a little sister, they were best friends they just never gave their relationship a title. They just knew that they had each other's back and that's all that mattered. Even though she didn't really like people's company but she made an exception for Troy, he's always been there so he knows how to help her when she's going through her moments.

"Ight, ima head out." Kiara stood from the couch and began walking to the door.

Troy grabbed his hoodie and walked out with her, making sure she made it home safe.

As they walked down the street to Kiara's house they goofed around like they usually did.

"So you telling me while we at this little poetry thing I gotta snap my fingers? Why I can't clap?" He asked

"Because you just don't. How you buy tickets but don't even know what to properly do?" Kiara asked.

"I bought them for you!" He exclaimed making it clear to her for the tenth time.

"Whatever. Ima catch you later." Kiara told him as they gave each other a hug goodnight before she went into her apartment.

She walked in seeing her granny asleep on the couch. She quietly shut the door and tip toed to her room.

"Kiki is that you?" Her granny asked her.

"Yes daadee." Kiara stood in the middle of their small living room space.

"How was school and your shoot?" Granny asked.

"It was good, how was your day?" Kiara sat beside her grandma.

"It was fine."

"Did you take any of your medicine?" Kiara asked.

"Yes. Then I fell asleep while watching my shows."

"Thats fine, come on so I can put you to bed." Kiara said standing from the couch and helping her granny get up so that she could go lay in her bed and not on the old raggedy couch. Her granny was suffering from stage 3 bone cancer. Kiara tried to keep her as positive as she could, that's why she started doing photography, to make money on the side to help provide for her granny and herself, she didn't really care about her uncle. She bought her everything she wanted and needed until it was her time, She just wanted to make sure her last days were good. Truthfully that's most of why she never lived on campus. It was cheaper and less nerve racking.

Once Kiara got her granny settled into bed she kissed her good night and shut her bedroom door. Kiara went to her room and took everything off and changed into her pajamas. She charged her phone and texted Prince good night before heading off to bed.
