《Badass Luna》Chapter 9

Great.

The one word I could finally use to describe my life. No more drama, or missing person's cases, but most importantly, no more lies or Ryan Barnes. After our encounter at the hospital, Emilia finally agreed to drop the case, a real joy for myself.

I continued skipping through my house, sweeping the floors in joy, humming along to the music playing on the television. As I did so, I realised that I had no photos of myself whatsoever to decorate my house. I didn't have many ornaments to begin with, but neither did I have any photos. Then again, why would I, my life wasn't the kind where I had any time whatsoever to take pictures of any kind. Any pictures that even existed to mark my life were probably burned down the minute I left England.

Suddenly, my hands froze, and I stopped sweeping the floor. I approached my mobile phone, intending to do something I should have done a long time ago. Swiping through my contacts, my fingers stopped right after finding the person I wanted to call.

I pressed the phone to my ears until the person responded shortly after.

"Hello" I paused, nervous about what to say. I hadn't spoken to him in the past 4 years.

"I need to meet you"

"Liz, I'm in England. I'm coming to New York during the next week, then?"

"Yeah, let me know" I replied, a slight tear escaping my eyes, the burning memories penetrating my mind.

"Take care Liz" I hung up, wiping my tears off my face, walking towards the kitchen to gulp a glass of water down.

I sat myself down on the sofa, wondering about what my life would have been like without a certain period of time, what my life would have been like without the Brew.

I was pulled out of my train of thoughts when my phone rang once again, flashing the name of my date tonight. I picked it up, my mood taking an immediate turn.

"Hello"

"Hey Elisabeth, we still on for today right?" Mason questioned.

"Yeah, of course" I replied, elevating from my place, rushing towards my bedroom to pull out an outfit.

"Great, I'll pick you up at 7" He hung up, creating panic in me.

It was already 6:15, which meant I only had 45 minutes to get ready.

After everything went down with Robert, Emilia had forcefully shoved me to go on a date with her friend Mason, who was cute, but a little too cute. Nevertheless, after everything that happened in the last few days, maybe perfect was what I needed, what I deserved. Maybe I could have my fair share of fun and then break it off with Mason. Hey, don't judge, if guys can do it, so can girls.

I pulled out my black ripped jeans and paired it with a simple strapped black blouse and with the right accessories, black ankle boots and a brown leather jacket I was good to go.

I heard a knock on the front door as soon as I finished putting my last ear ring on, a smile forming on my lips. I glanced at the clock beside me reading 7:00 pm sharp. I grinned, Mr. Perfect indeed.

I picked up my bag from the bed, walking towards the door to greet him.

As expected, Mason was wearing a posh Armani suit, looking absolutely tasty, I mean, handsome.

"Mason, hey" I said with extra enthusiasm in my voice.

"Elisabeth, you look gorgeous." He complemented, also as expected, making my smile extend even more.

"You don't look too bad yourself. Shall we?" I proceeded, stepping outside the house, locking the door behind me.

We got inside his car, as he sped down the roads of New York, no doubt to a fancy place as he questioned me about my life. For every question, I tried to be as honest as possible. Key word being 'tried'

"So, why did you decide to leave England? Are your parents here too?" I froze in my seat, blanking out completely, there was no one apart from Emilia who had ever known my past, and I intended to keep it that way.

"Oh shoot, I'm so sorry, I completely forgot, I had to make a phone call, it's my cousin's birthday and I have to wish her, do you mind?" I questioned, completely ignoring his question, to which Mr. Perfect obviously didn't object. I picked up my phone, dialing Emilia's number, knowing she would pick up on my lie pretty soon.

"Hey, aren't you supposed to be on your date with Mason? Why are you calling me? Are you with him? But he's perfect-"

"Hey cousin Ophelia" I interrupted her useless rant.

"Cousin Ophelia? What is this, Hamlet?"

"Happy Birthday, I totally forgot to call you before I'm so sorry, I've been so caught up with work." I continued, peeking a glance at a non-affected Mason beside me.

"Do you need to get rid of him already?"

"No, everything is just fine Ophelia, how is everyone back home?" I questioned, trying to convey the clear message to Emilia which she successfully picked up on.

"Oh, so he asked about your past?"

"Yes, work is great, so is my partner thanks for asking. Anyways, I should go now, do enjoy your birthday darling" I faked, noticing the fancy board of the restaurant coming into view.

"Alright babe, have fun" Emilia mentioned before I hung up.

We soon headed inside the restaurant; the same one Robert had brought me to, seating ourselves at the table.

The waiter approached us, taking our order shortly before disappearing.

"Well, you never answered my question, why did you leave England?" Sadly, Mr. Perfect was getting on my nerves. My smile dropped immediately, thinking of the quickest excuse I could think of.

"Well, you see-"

"Elisabeth?" A voice rang in my ears.

For the first time in my life, I thanked the lords for the interruption, for his presence.

It was as if history was repeating itself as I turned around to find the familiar face of Ryan Barnes standing behind me.

Perhaps Mason was not the guy for me, not even to get my fair share of fun with. You see, I'm not an emotionally attached person, as you can already probably tell, so fun was probably the only thing I could get out of relationships.

My eyes met Mason's confused ones, and it was in that very instant in which I made my decision.

"Mason, you'll have to forgive me, you're a great guy, but you're not the guy for me" I announced

"But you don't even know me-"

"Mason, I'm sorry" I apologized "Sadly, I'm already in love with someone else, I guess I should have told you before, but I was just looking for a new start, but I guess I'm not ready yet" I excused myself, leaving poor Mason confused and heartbroken on the table. Grabbing a hold of Ryan's hand, I pulled him out of the restaurant and kept walking until we reached the corner of the street.

"For the first time in my life, I appreciate your sudden appearance Barnes. What is it you want this time? I thought I made myself very clear that I wanted you to stay out of my life the last time I saw you" I began, my attitude returning to its normal state.

"You wanted answers, I'm giving you them" he simply responded, gaining my attention.

"Is that right? Well then, where are these answers?"

"Come with me" he said, creating some effect of Déjà vu from the first time I had met him in the club. There was a long pause before I nodded, finally deciding to take the risk. I patted the back of my back, making sure my gun was still where I had placed it before I followed Ryan into his car.

I guess it was time to get answers.
