After reading the letter, I realized I hadn't even cried. I think knowing that my dad understood made me feel better.
I folded the letter back up and stuck it back in the envelope and then laid it under my pillow.
As soon as I opened my door I came face to face with my mom who was leaning against the hallway wall, waiting for me.
"Feel better?" She asked, stepping closer to me.
"How'd you know that's what I was feeling?" I asked.
"I could tell. After your concussion, it was time for your game to step up a little and I knew you couldn't do that without thinking about your dad. And I knew you knew that, too. I'm proud of you, honey. And so is your dad." She leaned forward and kissed my forehead.
"Thanks mom."
