After I scored a passing touchdown to Gould the following possession, I got pulled out of the game.

"What were you thinking?" Kris snapped as soon as I stepped onto the sideline.

"I felt fine," I shrugged, trying not to make eye contact with him.

"It doesn't matter, Maya. You have a concussion either way, you could've been hurt even worse."

"Ok, ok. I'm sorry."

"Now go to the cart, you're done for the rest of the game."

I looked up at the scoreboard as I made my way to the cart. We were winning by a touchdown but there was still a ton of time left in the game. There was no way Collin would be able to handle this.

I was sick to my stomach knowing that I wouldn't be able to help my team finish off this game. But also a wave of sadness rushed over me, too. It hurt me knowing that I couldn't be there for them.

I was sitting in the cart when Kris finally came through the crowd and hopped into the driver's seat next to me.

"I'm sorry, Kris."

"It's ok. I understand that you're a freshman so you get some slack on this one, but next time --" He ran a finger across his neck like he was gonna kill me. He smiled and laughed when he saw my reaction. I had a little bit of a shocked look on my face because I knew he probably would, too.
